The Downfall of Dream: From Champion To Cheater

In this video I went through Dream's history explaining both his blow up and what led to his downfall. Dream of course is still extremely big but not nearly as big as he once was. And I wanted to explain why I think this is.
I went over Dream's speedrun cheating accusations and how they ended up being true, and how his manhunts (speedrun vs hunter series) continued to get nudged and called fake. The last thing I also talked about is how Dream stans contributed to ruining his brand, as people get assumed for being terrible people just because they watch him, which isn't fair.

If people would like to know how crazy they are then you can go over to one of Dream's twitter dramas (too many I forgot but I believe it was about Dream calling people weird names) and some guy who was upset over dream got doxed and blackmailed by a dream stan. The dream stan made an agreement with the dude that he wouldn't leak his address if he "supported dream all the time regardless of reason and regardless of what dream does."

Originally, I loved Dream’s videos! They were intense, interesting, and would keep you at the edge of your seat for almost the entire duration of the video. However, after some of the later 3 hunters videos, it became… very repetitive. Dream would pull off a sick move, then make it to the end, and would either lose or win. I found a lot of funny content creators (I mainly was watching, and still am watching ItsFunneh and the Krew) whose videos were both entertaining and fresh every time they uploaded, something I personally thought Dream’s content lacked, and I believe was why I stopped watching Dream all together. really well put together video, appreciated your editing style tons :) i will say though, some of dream's best performing videos came out after the cheating scandal (first 5 hunters and the rematch, not to be confused with most viewed videos), before the scandal people always did call the manhunts staged and the 100 floor video was also just a one off video (possible redo in the future as said by dream) which contrasts to manhunt, a series comparable to many episodic series which have the same formula every episode and many people do enjoy them take care and have a great day!

guys if this guy had the guts to submit cheated speed runs, what are the chances he scripted his manhunts? with the amounts of coincidences dream had I'd say he scripted them. I've had my suspisions since the third three man manhunt. The part where dream uses a inv splash potion inside the cave and everyone got confused with who's who... what are the chances that every single one of them (4 people btw) had the same armor, weapon, shield at the time? there wasnt a single difference in both the three hunters and dream himself. also, the scene before that everyone had different armor, weapons, and some had shield and some not. Then BOOM! everyone has the same wear and dream happened to have a inv splash potion ready? I called BS back then and not many believed in me.

This is very true, I'm leaning in 97% that all the 3 - 5 player Manhunts are fake. After all of Dreams 1/2 heart moments, the hunters never tried hitting him once. Even if they were 2 or 3 of them, and it's just kind of obvious. Second of all, there is a certain pattern followed by the 3 players hunt to the 4 player manhunt. In the first 3-4 player manhunt video, Dream loses, in the second video, Dream wins, in the third, Dream loses and in the grand finale, Dream wins. And this was followed by the 3-4 player manhunt videos. It's no coincidence lmao. Third, all of the seeds played by Dream were picked by Callahan (I think that's his name). Which makes it easier for Dream to win these sorts of challenges. And fourth, beating 5 people and not dying once is totally unbelievable, the fact that he lost to Techno, 4 - 6 , just proves that he's literally cheating. Especially against 5 people. Including Sapnap, who is remarkably good at PVP let alone 4 others.

I don’t think it’s scripted, just that a lot of things are forced out. The clutches instead of being creative ways to get out of sticky situations just turned into something to make the video interesting. The boat clutch is a good example as there’s almost no reason to just build up and then get back down easily, he could’ve prevented all of that extremely easily but no he had to do the funny clutch he saw on Reddit.

I was wondering how even with skill he almost always came out on top. The chances of constantly being near a village or ship is pretty damn rare. Not to mention its pretty boring to watch someone scream and almost win. I think my biggest problem is the guy knew he cheated but denied it and lied for months. But because he's big enough there is no reprocussions except a slight drop in views. But if other channels did that they'd be finished. Not really surprising everything is staged because that's just like reality TV. I think my most prominent memory of a Dream Stan is when one followed me across multiple videos just to throw out slurrs and shit.

I speedrun myself and believe me, there's nothing rare about villages and shipwrecks, they're common. Also, it turned out Dream not necesserily cheated purposefully. There's an investigation video by Karl Jobst which is by far the deepest anyone went down this rabbit hole, I really recommend to watch it, great watch

@@lordlasagna5121 That was a brachylogy. What I meant was that it's possible that he didn't know his game was modified. I know it sounds very fishy but it really could be the case. After months Dream's final claim was that he indeed had his game modified but he didn't know that the mod was affecting RNG due to developer's mistake. As I said, the youtuber Karl Jobst took literally weeks to investigate the issue, contacting multiple speedrunners, youtubers, moderators, developers, Dream's PDF author, getting access to his emails and so on. He then realised a summary over an hour long video which is BY FAR the most conclusive and thought through video on this topic. If you refuse to watch this video then I refuse to accept unfounded criticism

You want to die on the hill that he "unknowingly" cheated, that's your choice. People will come up with any reason and evidence to justify being right. The facts are that even if you cheat "unknowingly" you still cheated. If your trainer slips performance enhancing drugs into your water without you knowing, you still cheated. He admitted he cheated. Not intending to or not, it still happened. You can go to bad for him all you want, but I don't care if you don't agree.

I really don't care that much about the Dream drama, I'm just fascinated by how far it was taken in the context of math/probabilistic analysis and so on, but I'm EXTREMELY annoyed when people display behavior such as yours. I found the speedrunning drama very interesting and consumed a significant amount of documentaries, commentaries and analysis on it. Mr Jobst's one was BY FAR the most complex, deepest and founded I've seen. He is not associated with Dream in any way and he's been exposing cheaters in speedrunning for years, including the infamous Badabun's Super Mario Bros speedrun. After Dream admitted that he realized his game was accidentally modified, almost everyone jumped on him stating that it's BS. Mr Jobst tho conducted an investigation that took literal weeks, he contacted every party involved and more. He is a great journalist and all I say is that the conclusion is not as simple as "Dream cheated, end of story". I won't be saying anymore about that, you can analyze the video yourself, unless you don't want to, in which case it's a fallacy to criticize opposing position on the issue. "The facts are that even if you cheat "unknowingly" you still cheated" - My wording might have been unfortunate. What I meant by "accidental cheating" was "not knowing that modifications were enabled". It's the same situation as deciding whether an athlete cheated if he had steroids secretly put in his lunch. Well, he would have unfair advantage, but he wouldn't be cheating, because cheating is INTENTIONALLY gaining unfair advantage. So I admit, my wording was confusing but now I cleared out what I meant. Thank you.

I've been a fan of Dreams content ever since he had less than a million subs, and to this day, I still enjoy his content. It makes me really sad that he's gotten himself into a lot of drama, and even more sad that people out there despise him so SO much, they make hating Dream and everything associated with him their entire personality. The same thing could be said about his stans with loving him. Of course, Dream does deserve most of the criticism, because at the end of the day a lot of things that have happened are kinda his fault. Nowadays I keep seeing him apologize for the absolute SMALLEST things in fear he'll get cancelled again. Which I feel really bad about for him. I just hope he takes notes and learns his lessons from the stuff he says and does. I'm no stan, Dream definitely needs take notes and understand just how big of an impact has on with anything he can say or do. Hopefully one day, the word "Dream" won't be a one way ticket to getting death threats on Twitter.

I understand that. I don't see anything wrong if you like Dream and all, but just take in mind that he's not always a good person. Mind you, everyone does make mistakes in their lives, but Dream definitely has done quite a lot and I can't say it's unintentional. I used to watch Dream myself, especially when his Manhunt series was blowing, but now I'm moving on after he stopped doing it and with all the controversies surrounding him.

@@renatus20058 tbh his mistake regarding things he’s said was just like anyone else’s on twitter but by a much bigger creator bc let’s be honest, who hasn’t argued on twitter for hours, days, weeks just to prove a point? My point is that a significant percentage of people love to be right especially when they think they’re right. I think the most ironic thing about all of this is that most people pick a side of dream cheated or dream did not cheat and do exactly what dream did and aggressively defend their position when the better thing to do is not solidify your point until 100% concrete evidence proves that point. People need to begin to like being wrong and I can tell you the world is far far far away from that. I personally predicted this outcome from the beginning but didn’t defend or attack dream for it bc I wasn’t 100% certain. I’ve used so many mods before and either forget to switch them out or have absolutely no idea what the coding means. IMO if all this stuff is true, then dreams developer is slightly more at fault here bc if he would have just said something early, the toxicity among everyone on all sides of the arguments would not have existed. Honestly this is a very well done video. I was a dream fan in early 2020, but after all of the drama kicked up and seeing dreams handling of it and other things (glowsquid) I stopped watching him. Besides the repetitive nature of his content, his videos felt faker and over the top. I wanted to see a group of dudes having fun playing a kids game. Not them acting like Minecraft's demographic.

Former Dream watcher here, *what tf happened?* In my perspective the manhunts got really boring for me, it just hunter chase the hunted, it's either the hunter loose and the hunted win or Hunter wins and hunted loose, sprinkle in some plays in there and boom you got a video, and i have better things to do with my life anyways, like school and talk with my father. i mean to be fair his latest video got 10 m views and I think the only reason behind the reduction in the view is just because the video isn't as fun as dream vs hunters series. I, in my opinion, am a casual viewer who likes a good show regardless whether it is fake or not just like watching a nice netflix show. The speedrun cheat was disappointing as I respected him as a content creator, and will neve be forgiven, but in order for dream to truly face his demise, it would only occur if his contents are truly boring.

Its a lot faster than finding endermen in the nether because endermen are pretty hard to find, and they dont always drop the ender pearls Im pretty sure piglins have a higher chance of dropping ender pearls. But he had to bump of the chances so the run goes faster
