I got the say man, you are one of the most inspiring creators out there. I grew up on 3 acres of land and it was never utilized to its full potential. Now I live in the suburbs on a quarter acre of land and I have a composting set up, I just built my first garden bed and i will be purchasing my first chicks later this week. I’ve never been happier to have dirt on my hands.

Learning to do things on your own is a great message for everyone nowadays. People shouldn’t be afraid of trying to do things on their own. I was fortunate to have a great father that instilled in me the idea of making instead of buying or pay for someone else to do things for me. Love your videos!

I do not consider myself anywhere near being a homesteader, but, It is because of you and your videos that encouraged and solidified in me the ability to do the repairs i needed on the home i purchased last year by myself. It has been a long and hard road and I have made many mistakes but i could not have been any more proud with the my success and failures. Thank you for all of your tips, kind words, and the motivation you have given to people like me.

I think the reason that people say “it’s impossible to be at home, Cetera” - is because our culture thinks you can get a degree in whatever it is you want to do. Or you can watch a couple tick-tock videos and become whatever you want to be. There’s no easy way to become a homesteader. We are reclaiming skills that have been largely collecting dust in society’s attic for almost 100 years. I’ve been homesteading since 2015. It started out with having way too many apples from the food pantry and so I had to figure out how to make applesauce. And then I heard of something called. “canning.“ Then we were grossed out by how chickens were treated, and we wanted to see if we could raise some chickens for eggs. I didn’t even know how to buy a chicken! Now we are processing hogs and goats and building our own chicken tractors, and I know my way around multiple power tools And I am learning a lot of things as I go. This life is not impossible! But it’s exactly what you’re saying, folks have to be willing to be teachable, to take risks, and definitely be willing to ask for help from anyone remotely wise in your life! You should ask all the old people you can find how to do things!

Great job 👏. I’ve always learned best by trial and error. My wife believes in me way more than I believe in myself, her pushing has built decks, interior walls, floors, tiled showers and floors, window installations. I’m thinking with her we could build a farm.

Taking advice is the biggest one, learn from those who simply know more than you and learn from it. I have done and seen a lot and there is always one old timer or someone more experienced that says something to me and I'm like hmmm that does sound better and easier. The other key thing is, never expect things to go smooth or be easy, it rarely does

its way more possible to be a homesteader than it is to be a traditional home owner in most places, especially in my area in KY. its never not been a thing here, lol, homesteadings been around since the country was founded. never went away here, just waxes and wanes depending on the economic conditions. there's lots of undeveloped land in KY, depending on the area it can be pretty affordable. homes used to be cheap here, but thats changed so i think for a lot of people, you're down to renovating an existing home, or having a small house built ... or do what i plan on doing, having the shell of a pole barn house built, and finishing it out myself. there's more than one way to skin a cat and there's a lot of different ways to go about homesteading. pole barn house, trailer, traditional stick-frame home, shed-to-house, shipping container / silo homes, or something even less traditional like a cob house. just gotta find the option that works for what you want ... a lot of people would probably want to move to do it though. you need to be in a place that's a little bit outside a big city, both for convenience, and for lower costs, lower taxes, and less restrictions.

Well you obviously didn't get a huge homestead, nice house and a woodworking building full of tools unless someone else was a hard working carpenter and gardener. Were your parents the builders and gardener's? A lot of my skills were from my grandparents and have figured out a lot on my own. You have a wonderful set up there and seems you have all the tools you need for any building or gardening project. Most new homesteaders start with next to nothing. Does your family help you any? I've never seen them working in your videos. We all work together, even kids can help and learn. Enjoy your content.

At 57 my hands are my tools and everything I place in them is an extension of that. I never pay labour, I buy the tools and/or equipment to do it..... going to spend the money one way or the other. Learn something. You may even stumble across a new trade you had no idea you were interested in until you did it.
