this is seriously the best pedal ive ever used and you did a great job of showing off its useful extremes. the dream setting is my fave, but only with subtle vibrato. you can hit some otherwise unattainable stuff....if you dial down tone it takes edge off of vibrato....combine with another vibrato for vinyl warp..... crazy what i can evoke from it.... seriously tho, your playing here opened my eyes and ears to even more potential. thanks!

@WhiteWolf--5 жыл бұрын
They are both amazing, I have both but the Slo really excels at ambient stuff. You certainly can do ambient with the Fathom, but this one....its literally a dreamscape in a box. Unreal.
5 жыл бұрын
This "shootout" wouldn' t be needful, because both devices have different purposes, so it would not make a big sense to compare them to each other! The "Fathom" mainly addresses users who like to have those standard reverb Sounds like "hall","room", "plate" (and a little more...), the "Slö" doesn't have these "Standard reverb" presets, because it is designed for concrete ambient music, psychedelia and related kinds of musical applications. Instead of the named presets, the "Slö" comes with large, modulated cathedral-like reverb sounds which can be manipulated in many ways to create fantastic soundcapes above and beyond all conventions!

Bought me a Slö 3 month ago. What should I say.....a guitar, amp, the Slö, an analog delay, a looper like the ditto, perhaps an overdrive and you' re perfect equipped for really any kind of ambient music straight up to psychedelia...all the way up from early 70ties Pink Floydish music to more modern material like, for example, Radiohead Songs. The Slö is made of high quality, the box itself and also the sound of the reverb. It' s functionally reliable. The only small criticism i' ve to make is, that you can't turn the modulation completely off, if you like, and that's impossible to store a modulation setting. When you turn the Slö off, your setting is erased. It's also a bit fumbly to fix a certain modulation by turning the depth knob simultanously with holding the bypass switch pressed. But that's not a geat thing! All in all it' s a very great device if - and that's s really important! - you' re NOT looking for standard reverb sounds!! - There are no presets like "spring", "room", "hall" or anything like that and the Slö isn't designed to create such sounds! I've got another reverb for these reverbs. But if you're out for experimental, ambient, strange and "cosmic" sounding sound textures THIS IS THE DEFINITELY ULTIMATE REVERB FOR YOU! - Look out for outer space tranquility with this astonishing sounding device - it's really unique!- Keep rocking thru your dream times with a Slö! Andy from germany PS: Tipp for "soundscape-hunters" or ambient-creators: I completed my "ambient-tool-kit" by adding a *Boss SY-1-Guitar-synth-pedal* and play it (with selected delay effects) into the Slö: This offers a great amount of splendid possibilities! - Try it out! Crazy things may happen! Unlimmited sound possibilities!

Sounds great, but why not add a second toggle switch for the modulation instead of some convoluted bypass switching method?
@ianoberle97815 жыл бұрын
makes the pedal more expensive, takes up more space on the enclosure. i'm glad pedal makers are hiding functionalities within other functionalities now, makes stuff more affordable with a smaller footprint and they aren't that much harder to control (for me, at least).
@facetats21035 жыл бұрын
@@ianoberle9781 I don't know, to me it puts form over function. These switches are most likely ~$1 each in bulk and add a few extra soldering points to the PCB. What it costs to wire up the bypass/toggle switch like that? I have no idea, but it cost something. I _am_ just a layman thinking objectively, not a pedal builder. I'd just rather not have one extra thing to do while changing parameters on the fly and would prefer a tactile, foolproof second switch. To each their own I suppose. That being said, would it stop me from trying one out? No. In a perfect world, on my perfect board, it would be in a larger enclosure anyway, because it would have stereo in/out and expression. Even my Big Sky has it's compromises.

Cheers Rabea. Best in depth review of this pedal out there. Seems to be so adaptable too. I can see myself using this not just for ambient guitar based tunes - but also for braindance/AFX style tracks. - This sort of thing seems excellent for electronic musicians who happen to play guitar, but not keyboards(!) (the 100% wet mix function is always nice to see demo'd on pedals capable of it, and so often missed out in such reviews) Perhaps point this use-case out to the Capt (I'm sure there are many more like me.. caught between his guitar channel and his electronic music channel), and then perhaps he may not be so.. unsure.. of the audience for ambient reverbs and some of the better guitar synths! :) Ordered one from Ander-tones yesterday, came back to drop this comment: This full function review and sound demo was the difference between me simply walking on by, or instead actually dropping £180 sight unseen on a pedal.. But without wishing to sound like some sort of advert myself.. so just to say it was intended as honest feedback for yourself and your colleagues. Thanks again for the vid. ☮ Edit: spelling
