What makes the Drengir so scary is that they have the ability to damage a force users connection to The Force, as seen with Jedi Knight Dez Rydan. The implications of this ability could deeply destructive to Force Users of any kind, it's no wonder that The Sith didn't want to have anything to do with them & simply bound them with the Force instead of destroying them outright, as is usually the Sith Ethos.

I've already seen people asking why they don't just use some weed killer, but there's a few potential (albeit not-confirmed) reasons for why that might not work. Possibility 1: someone in the past tried, and they've long since adapted a resistance to such chemicals. If some of the Nihil's gas weapons are chemically based, then it could even be how the Drengir survived it so easily. Possibility 2: since they're particularly strong with the dark side (as the video states) they could potentially be able to manifest a thin barrier preventing the weed killer from coming into contact with them. The thin barrier hypothesis would also explain their resistance to the abilities of other Force users, as that is literally how Legends explained why lightsaber duels don't often include the combatants using the force on each other (or for that matter, deactivating their opponents' lightsabers). The last possibility I'll mention: we already have weed killer that's advertised to only effect weeds. The Star Wars Galaxy would have likely developed and exclusively used one that actually lived up to that promise, so if the Drengir aren't biologically weeds, there's a chance that it won't work because of what the chemicals were designed to target.

weed killer have this name because it is made to kill weed, plant poison dont work like that, every single different plant needs a different kind of poison to be killed or weakened and some of them can learn to adapt to it by suffering mutantions, that's why we have a lot of problems going with agrotoxics being used on farms

I'm Icelandic and I wonder if this is a shot at us males? Drengir means "Boys"... and now there's a scary lion creature named Matari... matari means feeder. The latter I don't mind. Even Voru is a word in Icelandic meaning "[they] were". Saw that on update on Wookieepedia today a picture of these two, Voru and Matari. Why is there sudden interest in our very obscure ancient language?

I like the concept of the Drengir but I think that the creatures shouldn’t have been able to speak Basic, or there should have been a clearer explanation for why they could speak basic. that part of the concept didn’t make a ton of sense to me. I never questioned why the Bendu could speak basic because of his strong presence in the force and a similar hint of an explanation for these creatures would have helped with the worldbuilding.

The Drengir seem kinda lame to me. I wasn't excited for plant villains when I thought they were a mindless horde that spread from planet to planet but when they started talking and holding blasters they just pop in my head as the aliens from The Simpsons, Kang and Kodos, and I can't take them seriously at all.

@@caderen5624 I'm not sure that I understand what that's supposed to mean exactly. In the real reality, many plants communicate, eat meat, signal danger, and seek to proliferate. Some even prefer classical music to chaotic rock. Remember that grade school project?😉 But seriously, why then would it be difficult to understand the possibility of a higher cognitive functioning in a plant species from another world in the real world or in Star Wars reality? Quite literally, if you do the math on the miniscule amount of information that we have about the observable universe, it plainly demonstrates that the variety of life on this planet alone only magnifies the near incalculability of the variance that can exist on other worlds, given the shear number of galaxies, systems, stars and planets, let alone the ones that are in the Goldilocks zones that we've observed. I just don't think that there is anything absurd about that, especially when you consider Red Harvest as far as Star Wars is concerned. I'm not sure if red Harvest is canon but if it is then the High Republic has shown one of several sentient plant species in the Star wars universe. From Wookieepedia "...plants were not very common in the galaxy, with species like the Neti, the Daltarri, the Ergesh, the Orgon, the Thorn monster, the Pliith and the Revwien being rare examples of plants to have developed sentience." The Sith librarian was pretty awesome in my opinion, just in it's descriptive purpose. He was a Neti.😁
