I was looking at what was available on the fire stick recently and saw a documentary called history of the eagles which was really fun to watch and brought back memories when the Golden Bear was mentioned. I had completely forgotten this place in Huntington Beach from the 80s long torn down. But to make a long story longer it totally made me laugh when don henley (I think) was being interviewed and mentioned something about going crazy and he asks joe what he does to keep from going crazy and the camera pans to joe and his whole head is wrapped up in foil with antennas and all and I laugh every time I play it back. Joe clearly smoked a bit of dope in his life but his humor is amazing. Probably helped keep tensions down in the band.

This comment is late, I know. The video just popped up. So, the Eagles as a band took the world by storm with Hotel california, and we all know it. Many, many years later, we start to see the documentaries on the band, the band members, the squabbles, the break-ups, all of it. But you know what? I still play Hotel California (the whole album) every chance I get. Glen will always be a missing jigsaw piece but the show goes on. On a personal note, Don Henley has always been seen as a calming influence on a volitile group of musicians.

One thing the doc didn't touch on was that Henley was reluctant to bring Walsh into the band in 1976. He felt that Walsh being allowed to continue with his solo career outside the band wouldn't mix with the band's philosophy of "the songs are the stars, not us". He was also concerned that Walsh wasn't as discreet with his personal excesses as the rest of the band. But Frey and Felder really wanted Walsh and Meisner was reluctant to get involved, so Henley gave in.

I really didn't know who Joe Walsh was when the Eagles were the rage. It wasn't until about 20 years ago that I realized I had a hobby so to speak and that hobby was to learn more about some of the great musicians of the rock era. I first noticed that Walsh was a badass gituar player and then connected him with the eagles. Walsh's story is the story about the guys that got sober and are now grateful to be here. The fact that he is regular guy humble, a super star quality badass gituar player, great vocalist and song writer makes you take notice. Kinda strange now it took so long for me to see that.

Read Felder's Between Heaven & Hell for details of his view of things. Kind puts a balance to the heavy lean toward the Frey view in the History of the Eagles. Felder was contractually & corporately one of the Eagles as were Frey, Henley, Meisner, & Leadon. Equal shares all. The only way one of them would lose their share was if they quit the band (Meisner & Leadon did). Walsh & Schmidt came in after and were never part Eagles corporate entity, effectively being just hired musicians. If Frey & Henley (implemented by Azoff) had been up front with Felder about their much higher share of the $ after the 1994 reformation of the band, the whole situation would no doubt have been different. But they didn't. They just hid it from Felder, and when he started snooping and found out what they did, the hammer came down on him. Felder's settled-out-of-court lawsuit against Frey/Henley/'The Eagles' compensated for the wrong done to him financially. Nonetheless the Eagles were an amazingly talented band who put it out there time and time again. I love their music more now than 30 years ago.

all this talk about Felder being just a guitarist and not being equal to Henley and Frey....but the new guy who replaced Felder... he plays all Felder's licks and solos.... we sometimes forget that the music is sometimes just as or even more important than the lyrics.... if he were to play his OWN licks and solos, the songs would never be the same...the guitar work on ALL these songs from Felder is what made these songs so memorable, not just Henley's or Glen's voice....
