I usually acclimate my shrimp and fish I buy from places that use RO water. I like the idea of using a seperate container to hold the new aquarium water. I have in the past, not done this and simply stuck the tubing in my aquarium with a needle valve on it. The container makes up for my forgetful mind! Thanks Zenzo!

I used to make something very similar to water my veiled chameleons. They would only drink water droplets on leaves. So I made something similar to this but with a 2 liter bottle to let water drip into the enclosure. Slightly opening the cap gave me a little control over the flow rate out the tube at the bottom. The wire in the tube trick to reduce the diameter is genius. I was just thinking of making another for doing water changes on my under 5 gallon shrimp tanks. I will use that when I make it.

Add a ziss air valve in place of the tubing and paper clip. Save your self some time and you can control water flow more accurately

What about the temperature acclimation wouldn’t the temp still be off?

Good question, water drops cool in a blink.... hm... maybe the years of using the method has proven it works? But if I were to do this in my Swedish flat in the wintertime, it wouldnt work, I think? Both the container (with the tube and tank water) and the fishcontainer would cool off quickly. Now, if you put the container with the fish on the inside of the tank, the temperature would still balance (like in the old putting-in-the-whole-plastic-bag-way). This is one of the ways to use the Co-op container if I remember right from a video? Well, then you still have to wipe of the container when lifting it up when it is ready, but it would be better for the fish. In the Ocean store the indoor temperature may be warmer and more constant than in random people's houses? This is still - with the wiping - a very nice method to get the new fish used to the water parameters. And maybe we overthink it? Maybe it works even with the temperature also balancing? If one doesn't want to use so much extra plastic maybe one could use the shrimp-hatching-container-thing, and put the container with the new fish right under it? Maybe do an extra tight little tube to manage the drop flow to put on to the take-out-the-shrimp-opening-plug-handle-thingy? But then the new fish and the old fish will not see oneanother before adding it... the old fish get to notice and look at the new fish, when the balancing is made in/on the tank... My brain is racing. Sorry for babble and thinking out loud. Your question triggered the on-button and ... well AD/HD... Sorry. Your question is a valid one, that was all I was going to write.. I just wanted Mr Z to tell us... I'm sorry. I hope you have a babble free holiday (from now)!

I’ve been using the zoomed water dripper for acclimating my new fish. My only concern for this form of acclimation is that the water cup would drop in temperature and not be the same temp as the aquarium after the whole acclimation process is done. I guess it depends on how long the process takes for there to be a change in temperature.

Amazingly simple and effective!! I will try building my own! I also have a request maybe for one of your future videos: I'm struggling to stock an all male haps+peacock show tank and the reason I'm struggling is the fact that either you buy big adult 100% sexed fish (spending a lot of money) or try with juveniles accepting the risk to end up with females which of course then you should rehome somehow. In Italy where I live there are many cichlid fishkeepers, however the most part is keeping single specie tanks or maybe mbuna communities and they are scared by an all male show tank approach so it's not simple to rehome fish. Is there any "suggested strategy" to stock an all male tank without spending a fortune in full grown fish? Thanks and my congratulations for the amazing contents you're continuously publishing!!

It's creative, but to be honest it strikes me as quite a bit more effort than just bringing a tied airline tube into the specimen cup.

For temperature, about 20 minutes. For drip acclimation, when the parameters read similarly on a test kit or test strips.

I just put fish in a bucket with a heater and airstone, and drop a tablespoon of tank water once every minute for about a half hour. Also please stop the stereotype that some fish are more sensitive. This is a dangerous stereotype. Every fish is sensitive, and should be acclimated to temp and quality. Anyone who doesn’t recognize this is a animal abuser. A wild caught discus, and a mutt guppy should be given equal treatment.
