Great video! I am in need of a new ecm module (2nd in 2 years) and I am really not wanting to spend another $550 on a module. My question is how do I figure out which psc motor that I need to buy that'll work with my furnace. My furnace is a Bryant 355mav 80k btu. I'm not sure if you can figure that out for me or if you can point me in the right direction. Thanks!!

Hey Jake, thank you for your question. To choose a PSC motor for replacement, first make sure that the PSC motor is the same horsepower as the failed ECM. Next, make sure that you know which voltage the original ECM was running on because you will need to use that same voltage for the replacement PSC motor/QwikSwap V3 combination.

Thanks! Glad to hear that. You'll have to check your local supply house for a price on the QwikSwap but it'll almost always be a more competitive price point than replacing the ECM motor.

Good video. What about DC motor controls. My Tempstar has a speed control board between the main board and the motor. I believe it's doing the same thing as the end-cap, or bell on the ecm motor. It's discontinued of course so I'm scrambling to get it working as winter sets in. I believe a 24vdc transformer and a bridge rectifier switched in by a relay triggered by the signal from the main board will get me going. Only one speed of course.

Thank you for the comment. As a general rule of thumb, if the original motor has a constant torque ECM (X13) style plug, it will be compatible with our QwikSwap X1 and QwikSwap X3. If the original motor is a variable speed ECM (2.0, 2.3, 2.5, 3.0) with a 16 pin or 4 pin plug, it will be compatible with our QwikSwap V3.

@@qwikproduct Thanks for responding. It's a Tempstar furnace, and the wiring diagram inside the bottom cover says DC motor, but everything I can find on the motor (M55bmcnr-216) says it's 230 vac. Very confusing.

I might've been using the wrong Quickswap board on a Trane pkg unit, hoping you can help me out.The part number on the motor module D341314P51, 3/4HP, 16 pin. I used the Quickswap V3, followed the installation instructions and as soon as I turn the power on to the unit the blower motor came on. The thermostat wasn't calling for cooling or heating and the fan was set to auto. I figured it would run for a couple of min. then shut off but it just stayed on. Ended up just taking it off and wiring the PSC motor to the contactor for cooling. I installed the same V3 board on a ICP pkg. unit and it worked fine.(I uploaded a short video installing it)could it be that maybe it wasn't compatible with the Trane unit? if so , which board would work with Trane?

Thank you for the comment and for using our product! The QwikSwap V3 will work on the Trane unit that you are referencing. Sometimes the OEM ECM motor has a slightly different program so the QwikSwap needs a one time manual setting on the configuration switches. looks good- but I have never seen them in the local parts suppliers. Plus they are about 100$ on ebay- a generic ecm motor is 200. A peanut relay is 8$. I would love to try it but I need to be able to get it and I wont buy it from someone on ebay. WHo are distributors.

I just removed my psc motor today and installed an ecm. I saved 130 watts on high speed, and saved 350 watts on low speed. Not to mention I dialed in my static CFM to allow my modulating heat pump to run more efficiently. Why on earth would you want to go from ecm back to psc? If you've got an older trouble prone x13, why not just get a new Genteq and leave the woes behind you?

Thank you for the comment. There are several variables to consider and ultimately the homeowner has to be happy with the choice. Up front cost is certainly an important factor. The QwikSwap/PSC option is typically much less expensive than the variable speed ECM option.

This can give the homeowner an immediate repair to get aircon up and running instead of waiting for a hard to find special and expensive ECM motor to be shipped, and consequently swelter in the heat until it arrives.

The blower motor doesn't consume near as much electricity as the compressor or heater elements so it's not lowering your bill that much. And the ECM controller is vulnerable to power surges. The failure rate is much higher than PSC motors and until mfg's figure out how to make the controller's more reliable, they will continue to be an inferior motor to the PSC.

@@NETWizzJbirk Both the QwikSwap V3 and the QwikSwap X3 have the multi-speed capabilities. You should find those products at two quite different price points. OEM variable speed ECM motors can be much more than the cost of a QwikSwap V3 and a PSC motor. Aftermarket ECM motors that can replace OEM variable speed ECM motors may be a similar price to the QwikSwap but they have communication restrictions that prohibit them from being "universal". QwikSwap is the only aftermarket ECM replacement product that does not have those communication restrictions. That is the essence of the true value of QwikSwap. It is a tool that can be kept on the truck that can replace any ECM you may encounter in the field.

you forgot to mention that the PSC will last much longer as it is not nearly as vulnerable to power surges as the controller used in the ECM. I'll take years of reliability over a few dollars a month in savings for efficiency only to have to replace the ECM every few years after a power surge.
