I was looking up the difference between "regular" mayo and Kewpie mayo to see if I should buy Kewpie mayo or if the regular one will do. I had no idea, but American mayo uses whole eggs (and it's the main difference). I thought all mayo is made with egg yolk only everywhere! Other than that the difference is mainly in the type of acid used (like appple cider or rice vinnegar) and the additional use of msg (which we're very scared of in Europe I guess because someone in the 60s decided msg was toxic which I think was debunked since but you know). The mayonaisse we get in Poland is often spiced with mustard, sometimes replacing vinnegar altogether. It may sound weird, but honestly it doesn't taste like mustard at all in my opinion, so I guess it doesn't use a lot. So if you live in eastern europe for example, the texture of your mayo should be similar to the Kewpie mayo. Sorry for the Mayo rant :D just thought it might be interesting for someone else ; )
@dumbalek6001
@dumbalek6001 2 жыл бұрын
@@lisahinton9682 haha thanks - I didn't mention cause I felt like it was implied but the reason I was surprised American mayo uses whole eggs is that (I think) European Mayo is yolk only (or I think it should be at least, Polish mayo is made with yolk). But you're right, making fresh mayonnaise isn't as hard as you'd think - only it has a very short shelf life so I'd be worried about using it all 😞

@knark
@knark 2 жыл бұрын
Here in Japan they sell oil filter sheets (think coffee filters) which you can use to filter the solids out of oil and drip back into a container (after it's cooled of course). I personally avoid deep-frying at home, but on the rare occasion when I do and it's a fairly clean one-time fry, I rebottle the oil in this fashion and then keep that oil in the fridge to use again for every day cooking. I do the same with bacon grease as well.
