At first I couldn't figure it out, but a friend helped me! If you take the pointer finger of your free hand, and slide it down the middle finger of the hand holding the hair, you'll get the middle section to the bottom and the top section to the middle. Then you can move the bottom section to the top of the ladder (between your ring and middle finger), you'll get the whole method down rather quickly.

During this quarantine, I find myself on KZbin looking at lots of things and came across this video. I decided to give it another try. I started trying this morning and would have to stop and re-watch the video. I did this probably 4 or 5 times and decided to stop and take a break. I went back at it this evening and got it on the first try. Now, mind you, it isn't perfect but you can tell it's a french braid. A few more times practicing and I'm confident I'll have this down pat! Thank you sooooo much for this video! Finally, after all these years!

What does “up the ladder” mean? I still don’t get it
@hannahmulvehill80914 жыл бұрын
From what i understand, the end (pinky) is the highest part of the ladder and the beginning (thumb) of your hand is the lowest part of the ladder. You move the top two stands of hair (the one between your middle and ring finger, and the one between the middle and index finger) down the ladder on your other hand. This means the strand between your ring and middle will be between you middle and index finger on the other hand, and the stand between the middle and index will be between the thumb and index of your other hand. Then with the remaining strand you move it up the ladder (because it is between the thumb and index it is on the lowest part of the ladder) and bring it to your other hand between your ring and middle finger. Sorry if it is hard to understand i just wanted to be thorough.

@@hannahmulvehill8091 Thank you so much I was really confused. I actually did it, it doesn't look amazing but I think it was good for a first attempt.

IT FINALLY MAKES SENSE NOW!!! I knew what to do but not HOW to do it - I had no idea the finger positions mattered that much!!! I'm 26 and never had anyone to teach me - this changes everything!!!

I'm over the moon. I watched you Dutch braid video and loved it your way is so easy and this is no different. I especially love the way you explain it. I have a mild form of cerebral palsy and my left hand has to in a way copy my right to get how move to do what I need and your videos help so much with practicing my brain hand eye coordination.
