What a weird intro. You might want to remind people Israel has been illegally occupying Palestinian Territories and conducting state terror on the indigenous Palestinians for over 80+ years. Gaza is a literal concentration camp where Palestinians from all over Palestine were forced into from the Apartheid Israel régime.

@@perfectnmabaso6744 this is possibly the most ignorant comment possible. As Economics student in Israel, you did very good job in explaining the situation fairly(I would put more emphasis on rise in Foreign exchange reserves, the Low public debt levels and the high demand that exist both internally and by outside investors for Israeli assets like Shekel, bonds etc... it shows there is much more trust in the future abilities of Israeli economy then other countries in similar situations).Israel also specifically has experience like no other in armed conflicts more or less every 5 to 10 years and with very strong rebounds after those conflicts, consistently more or less since the 60s(the investment is happening, exports are strong, the sharp decline is in consumers spending) Second, this whole issue is obviously not ideal situation but to say "collapse" for an economy is unbelievably harsh word that is thrown around like nothing. When the country has strong institutions that can shape the economy(in Israel those are objectively among the best in their field worldwide)the government has the ability to deal with much of the issues especially when those appear in the short/medium term(in my opnion even 10 years of total war will probably not make "collapse",well as long as nothing drastic happens). Last thing I want to mentioned in that in the end and to me is more important, the economy is just the material wealth of society, without security there is no economy(there will be no long term investments, there will be no more stable/trusted institutions or good protection of private property),Israel policy makers need to do what they supposed to do(even if this hurts the country in Short/medium terms)to allow the room for long term growth.

Living in peace by not oppressing the natives and not bullying one's neighbours would have been so much cheaper, but you reap what you sow. As long as Israel can keep milking its biggest sponsor, the US, nothing will change dramatically. If Israel's a "Hebrew state", does that make countries like Canada, Ireland or the US "English states"?

As BRICS and the SCO continue their dedollarization, and the US dollar loses its international reserve currency status, and the US debt of over 34 trillion increases by a trillion every hundred days, and Moodys has downgraded the US rating, and more bank closures are probably coming, - the USA's diminishing economy will eventually affect Israel in terms of investments and military support. There's a point when US support has shrunk sufficiently that Israel's economy will free fall and truly collapse. Germany's diminishing economy and the collective West's diminishing power will eventually mean less support for Israel. When the US and the West start seeing their investments going belly up in Israel and see their own investment abilities beside selling debt diminish, they will reduce investments even more and Israel will feel the effects - especially if the war continues, which it probably will. By the way, did this video mention decreased tourism and increased divestments and boycotts? I don't remember hearing that. Was there any mention of the increased costs to the state of caring for the tens of thousands of disabled from this war for the rest of their lives? And this video claims that exports are increasing. How? Some of the ports are half vacant because of the blockade Yemen has imposed. And isn't the port in Eilat laying off nearly half its workers? Also, I suspect their is a brain drain from the people who can leave, leaving as soon as they can.

When the U.S. sees Israel as a liability in it's world standing, and stops sending that 3+Billion they've been sending for the last 30 years, and when Israel can no longer offered to give the Orthodox Jewish branch the welfare they've been receiving, and forces them to serve in the military, we'll see their economy crash.

Been awhile since I've heard such fever dreams like this. The United States has the fastest growing economy among the advanced countries, and is continuing to grow even though much of the world - especially China - is tipping into recession. BRICS (the term being coined by a Western economist by the way) is nowhere near to coming up with an alternative currency, both the Yuan and the Ruble are nonconvertible with no plans whatsoever of changing that due to justified fears of capital flight. Russia is bogged down in a raging conflict with no end in sight and China is facing a serious downturn on multiple fronts. And don't get me started on the state of the economy of South Africa. Nope, definitely won't be quitting my day job over BRICS anytime soon.

Actually, Russian LNG is in increasing demand in Europe. Russia is still selling natural gas to Europe, except now Russia gets Rubles instead of Euros. In 11/2023, Russia exported a record amount of LNG to the EU at about 50% of total exports of 3.2 million tons both officially and clandestinely in the gray import scheme. The IMF predicted higher growth for Russia than the Russians had expected. And Russia has increased its gold reserves to over 2.36 thousand tons. Meanwhile, the US debt has gone over $34 trillion and at over %120 of GDP even though the US pays about 2 $billion a day on just the interest, nations are dumping the dollar and it is losing its place as an international reservice currency (you can kiss Bretton Woods goodby) and is less held than ever before and falling. Consumer credit debt, delinquencies, and defaults are at a high, T-Bills are having a tougher time selling while central banks are selling them off and replacing them with Gold while Gold prices are soaring and central banks are hoarding gold because everybody knows the dollar is becoming worthless day by day. And US banks are soon going to have to refinance their debt at higher interest rates making more bank failures likely. Small banks (which have some 70% of all commercial real estate loans will suffer worse or collapse because of the increase in corporate bankruptcies. The SVB, Signature, and First Republic bank failures of 2023 had more assets than all 25 banks that collapsed in 2008. Speaking of banks, delinquencies on commercial real estate loans held by US banks have been increasing, and the IMF is predicting a new financial crisis because of US banks' exposure to the deteriorate commercial real estate. And since interest rates have gone up, the market valuation of all that debt. Since these bank debts have plummeted, they're all under water - not just bonds, not just mortgages, not just student loans, not just credit card debt, but trillions of derivative bets against that debt. Every single one of our banks are insolvent! We're skr*wed. You say our GDP is high? So what? We have a debt based system. We don't make anything anymore. Furthermore, the January CPI report shows that inflation has increased. But even those numbers are understated because regular people are noticing and documenting online that inflation is sometimes higher than 50% on some items at the store. All that sets up a perfect storm for a catastrophic credit event where commercial property values plummet and the number of bad loans is going up (over $900 billion debt on commercial and multifamily real estate). But the value of collateral is dropping because of high vacancy rates while interest rates are high making it near impossible to refinance that debt. By 2030, Russia will have increased its share of global LNG production from 8 to 20% while around that time the US deficit will have doubled. The USA has its own problems with crumbling infrastructure while AT&T had a massive nationwide outage. I heard Biden say that the economy is great. What a joke! I've been a software engineer since 2005 and a computer tech some years before that, and trying to find work is harder now than ever - for me and for people I know outside the tech sector also. The official BLS unemployment is low, but the official stats are highly misleading and the reality on the ground is that it's the worst I've ever seen. And ever since the banks started failing it's been even harder than ever. I'm also seeing more homeless people on the streets than I've ever seen before. I think it's because of countries shifting away from dollar transactions and creating payment systems outside of SWIFT because we've put sanctions on so many countries, people, organizations, banks, and industries, and seized the assets of so many of them that they've decided to work together finding trade mechanisms besides than the dollar. Others who fear sanctions and don't trust us anymore are joining them. There was a time when the Fed could print as much money as it wanted and the inflation would get absorbed by the rest of the world because the dollar was an international reserve-currency. It was like a modern imperial tax that we put on the rest of the world. That was nice for us and sucked for them. Now, we've shot ourselves in the foot because we thought we were financially indestructible and everyone else would always be subservient. As for BRICS, their share of global GDP growth from 2012 to 2022 was 16% while the G7 was only 14% in that time. Their share of global GDP at purchasing power parity was 31.5% while the G7 was only 30%. That gap has widened in favor of BRICS and the trend continued because the next year (in 2023) the BRICS were at 32.1% while the G7 was down to 29.9%. The gap is probably much bigger now. In March, the Yuan has surpassed the Dollar in cross border transactions in China for the first time which is a significant step towards eventual dedollarization, but the challenge to the dollar is not from any one currency but from the combined effect of many currencies as more and more countries ditch the dollar every year and BRICS gets closer to rolling out a common bank and common currency. Things are going to cr@p here. Crime is so high that chains are closing entire stores over group gang theft. The shopping mall in the Fulton center in lower Manhattan is closing due to mass theft. That's the most recent example. Why? Because our economy is so great? So, definitely keep your job as long as you can.

Israel's economy is usually resilient enough to manage this downturn. Especially given that most reservists were demobilised and even the service prolongation by four months won't make much change because those 20 year old men don't have much money to spend. The main issue that is also long-term is the growth of the ultra-orthodox. I will write examples with sums in ILS (dollar is 3.6 ILS).That population depends on the government for more then half of their income directly and indirectly while also not serving in the military. Now after 5 decades of exponential growth (they double every 15 years) they are reaching a critical size in which their maintenance uses a large share of the budget, as large as 40 billion ILS per year currently. That's used for direct welfare payments and indirect subsidies the largest of which are free daycare, 50% subsidy of bus fares ,90% subsidy of municipal taxes,30% subsidy of real estate (they take more then half of the subsidized housing budget) and fake useless jobs on the government payroll. It reached a crazy point in which every working adult of the core population pays an equivalent of an average monthly salary per year. Personally the money I payed and was used to support those guys over the last decade could allow me to close my mortgage. What happened in pre-war year regarding the supreme court is directly connected to the ultra-orthodox because the court started shutting down their privileges, not just in big things like military service but also in little things. An example of such "little things" is the corrupt EBT scheme. To qualify for EBT cards you are required to receive the 90% reduction in municipal tax. To get that you need to have 6 kids minimum. A normal family can't raise 6 kids because they won't have access to free daycare (daycare cost is 3500 ILS monthly, the average fertility among regular Israelis is thus 2.6 kids and only some rich families have 6 kids as a status symbol) so 80% of those "hungry people" that get EBT were ultra-orthodox and they are so hungry that they have the highest obesity rate among all communities. The supreme court shut that scam down.

Economics are just a reflection of what is really happening. The Israeli forces are NOT performing outstandingly, as you stated. They entered their Stalingrad; an entire army can get lost when it fights in a city. Five months ahead and they still have not fully conquered Gaza. Every day they spend enormous amounts of ammunition. If their reserves are depleted, they might run into real problems as NATO and the US have exhausted their own reserve to help Ukraine. That might be the real reason why the US is so strongly opposed to the war in Gaza. The people in Gaza suffer, but does it not make you wonder that after five months, Hamas still has enough weapons and ammunition to withstand the Israelis? And if the borders were really totally shut, almost all Palestinians would have starved in these five months. So there is still a massive influx of food and military supplies of which the Isrealis know nothing.

Here is a short list of what people that don't like Israel shoud boycut: Any Android or iOS device is packed with Israeli software components and patents. Even if you buy a device from China it still pays Israeli companies for licenses and patents. You would essentially have to give up your smartphone. But don't be tricked: Ericsson, Nokia, Samsung from the late 90s also have software components from CheckPoint and other Israeli companies. Just stop using digital phones. Wired analog phones should be fine though. Like Apple Silicon, many ARM chipsets are engineered in Israel. Hence, you cannot use Smart TVs, smart phones, tablets, computers, smart fridges or any other "smart" devices since they include software components, chip designs, patents and licenses from Israel. You cannot use Windows, MacOS, BSD or Linux since a number of Israeli software engineers are involved, patents and licenses included are paid to Israeli companies. DOS versions of the late 1980s should be fine in some cases. You need to stop using browsers like Firefox, Chrome and Safari. They do include software, patents and licenses from Israeli companies. Also many Open Source projects include Israeli companies and engineers that were funded through these projects. You cannot use a car that was build after 1990/93 since all the modern cars include navigation and audio technology that includes Israeli semiconductor designs, components, patents and licenses through which you fund Israel. You cannot use computer networks like Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 4G or 5G since a number of encryption algorithms and encoding algorithms are engineered by Israelis, contain Israeli patents or licenses. Most of the chipsets are designed by companies with engineering offices in Israel, so the money you're spending on that shiny Chinese smartphone will end up in Israel. You cannot listen to digital music or any form of digital audio since Israel is strong in digital audio technology and Israeli companies hold a number of patents. Your radio thus is also out of question, you cannot use it. You cannot fly with aircraft from Boeing, Airbus and Embraer. There's so much Israeli technology in there, I couldn't even list all the components here.

Josh, the war also sparked antisemitism around the world and as a result many Jews and Israelis abroad are coming back home. In addition, the war has also boosted defence industry exports amid the risk of WWIII, with record deal sizes. The war created many challenges from mental health to injuries, and these serve as a fertile ground for innovation. Tech companies did not miss their product launch timelines while reducing labour costs (as reserve soldiers salaries are paid by the government) I predict the economy will bounce back quickly in the short term and the baby boom will boost demand in the midterm
