Gwyn, Lord of Cinder, is the final boss of Dark Souls and the one responsible for the tragic state of the game's world. The finale to Dark Souls is one of the most memorable moments of any game and for good reason; it is fantastic. It has been such a joy to talk about Dark Souls and it is the best narrative I have ever experienced in a game.

This is the last section. Nearly a year of work finished. I'm going to combine all of these videos into one big one so look forward to that. I will be revising and adding where I feel necessary so I hope those additions make it worth your while even if you've seen most of these vids:) Have a great day!

@LavenderRex7705 dark souls is in my top 3, but sotc is my favorite game of all time. If you love being awed by a game, and amazing atmosphere, you need to play it asap. Just do yourself a favor, and play it on ps2 or ps3. The remake is beautiful graphically, but it butchers the atmosphere in really important areas, and animations too. Changes the entire atmosphere, and emotions felt through the original art design. Imagine a higher fidelity dark souls remake with brighter colors, and a realistic art design that no longer makes it feel dreamlike. There's a lot more to say, but I hope you get the point.

Gwyn's boss theme, to me, feels like a companion piece to Souls of Fire (the title screen theme). Souls of Fire sounds mysterious and dreamlike, but also hides a strange sadness within itself. The looping in the song is noticeable, it changes some things each time but it keeps hitting the same motif over and over again... Gwyn's theme is the same way, except that it feels as though the sadness is all that's left. Souls of Fire has a variety of instruments it uses throughout, but in Gwyn's theme, the piano is all there is. The looping in both songs feels somehow wrong, they prolong themselves unnaturally just as Gwyn has prolonged the Age of Fire. And in the end, the tragedy is laid bare, because everything except the tragedy has been lost to time. It's gone hollow, just like Gwyn has, just like the player is fated to. Somehow, it feels like both of these songs perfectly capture the essence of Dark Souls. Thanks for making these videos, they capture the way I feel about this game pretty damn well.

I discovered this channel a couple days ago, and have completely binged every ds1 related upload. I love how this channel is just you talking about not only the story of ds1 but also your own thoughts on the game/npcs making every video more personal which is pretty different from most "souls lore" channels which I feel like are pretty copy and paste if that makes sense. Im wondering if you're gonna cover any other souls games if you do plan on continuing these types of videos (id love to see anything related to ds3). Anyway if you do end up reading this hope your day is well and love your vids man :)

It begins with ash in the form of ash lake and the kiln, and ds3 ends with ash in the ringed city. Perhaps, at the end, Gwyn realized that both Fire and Dark would fail and the striving of both frampt and kaathe would be for naught. Gwyn is Hollow when we fight him, indicating he has lost hope in his purpose like Siegmeyer or Anri. He has lost hope in the tradition of linking the Fire. Or at least, that’s my headcanon.

@@LavenderRex7705But gwyn was the one who established the civilisation that once prosepered and sacrificed himself for humanity because he feared everything would go extinct when the age of dark came except pygmies. The bad thing he did is linking the flame out of desperation and not letting the world he knew go. You really cant look at gwyn as an antagonistic character because as far as i know most characters are in that grey area, neither good nor bad. Except patches, he can burn in lost izalith.

Tower of Babel insight blew me away. Thanks for that. I have never taken the time to observe the environment because I'm so stoked for that fight. It is unique, isn't it... On the Babel note, I wonder if that isn't the key to the philosophy of the game: the champion / lord is limited in the ability to recreate or redeem because he is always a part of the fallen tower. Anyway. If you want to keep on with Dark Souls 1, there are those very subtle differences in the game in the replay-through, no?

And this is why dark souls 3s ending where the fire quietly fades into the new age of dark and humanity is my favorite you aren't the conquering dark lord here to claim all of humanity under your banner and forcing them to submit like Gwyn did all of the humans are quietly baring witness to the end of the age of gods and an unknown beginning of the age of dark and humanity for them to make something of themselves in this new uncertain age no longer being forcibly prevented by Gwyns manipulation and continuation of an age that should have ended eons ago

bro game had like 3-4 dumpster fire zones. Blight town, Lost Izalith, Crystal caves with those invisible bridges and 10 hours runbacks, Tomb of Giants with no light.... Game was very unfriendly and tbh unfun because you died and had to run back a lot, a running simulator. The good zones like Firelink Shrine -> Undead Burg -> Cathedral all 3 linking up with the use of the elevator was great i agree but lets not pretend like 50% of the game is not unplayable, its a barely finishable game for a normal/casual player.
