The US Bank Stadium turf was just changed this past offseason to a monofiliment turf at the request of the NFLPA... no definitive that the turf is causing the issue and there is multiple variables that may cause a lower body injury.

McCarthy played at the University of Michigan Stadium. The Stadium installed artificial turf in 2003. It has been upgraded and replaced at regular intervals with the latest available. The old "Astro Turf" which was more like a rug on top of an asphalt base did cause a variety of injuries. The Field Turf style with the rubber infill is close to natural grass in performance.

@@Brocuzgodlocdunfamdogson my only counter to the argument is how much weight does the playing surface contribute to lower body injuries when you cannot make the other variables null or void to test the theory that artificial turf cause more lower body injuries. I believe variables like the evolutionary progression of athletes muscle performance exerting on ligaments and tendons is a study that is hard to measure but can be as vital of a variable as the playing surface. Another potential variable that never gets talked about is the progression of technology in the sports equipment realm (cleats and spikes), there has been research and development into making sure that the full energy being excreted on the playing surface is being output into acceleration or stopping. By developing cleats that minimize the loss of the energy from “slippage”. Is it also causing athletes to have more lower body injuries because of that? Also there is variables in the sports health and science realm that maybe playing a variable into players getting hurt more often. Also the data collected in a lot of artificial turf vs natural grass research studies don’t actually go through each case to determine if it was an injury was caused during a non contact event. That would be important because of obviously a hip drop tackle on a WR could equally break an ankle on artificial or natural the playing surface is not going to affect the outcome of those situations. But non contact injuries would matter because it’s one less variable. All in all I do think there is solid evidence that the old school “Astro” turf increase the likelihood hood of injuries. But NFL does not use turf technology from the 2010’s. Think the NFLPA is just doing its job by making sure that everything is up to the highest standard for player safety. But they should not be saying that artificial turf is directly causing lower body injuries like they continuously do because it shows a lack of scientific thinking.
