Brooker mentioned the idea of Spotify playlists, algorithmically generated, that try to match your mood, and how this reminded him of dating apps that try and match you with the 'perfect' person. I think another detail that was very important was that they should check on their expiration date at the same time. Even though the idea of an expiration date for a relationship is ridiculous, there is still the idea that both people need to agree to look at something otherwise the result will get skewed because there is no clear communication and agreement that is being respected by both people.

I got something totally different out of this episode. The whole time they were worried that they weren’t going to be with their heart’s desires. They were attracted to each other and time was short but the second time around Frank was too afraid to trust the system. Similar to trusting the universe. In the end, as they rebelled because of fear of not being matched together, there see they were meant to be together all along. I believe, had they trusted the system, they would’ve been picked for each other on pairing day. As it was proved in the simulation in the end.

Hang the DJ is my favorite Black Mirror episode--but... My first impression was that the ending was deeply lovely and romantic. At first I thought that all of those simulations were different incarcerations of the characters and that the dazzling spectacle was a representation of divine intervention liberating them from an inhuman man-made system keeping them apart and forcing them into intimacy with strangers. But now that I understand that all those versions of the protagonists are sentient simulations and what I thought was transcendence of the system is actually the culmination of the system... The enslavement and coerced intimacy the simulation beings went through to arrive at the possibly happy ending for their real world counterparts is disturbing. I'm glad the creator intended to make a more optimistic episode. But maybe his rather dark imagination couldn't help creating a happier ending with disturbing implications. Too bad my mis-reading wasn't the really story...
@number3stunner1183 жыл бұрын
I also thought that they were floating up to reality at the end of the simulation - and that they'd remember the experiences and have a bond in the real world. (I also had some trouble seeing the end because the screen was dark and it was pretty light outside when I watched - so I didn't see that there were multiple versions of Amy and Frank).

Here is the irony-you note that the beings (sentient or otherwise) are under extreme duress to get the right amount of stimulation whether for a desired result, or to run the sim. We rooted for the simulations due to the amount of stress they went through and because of all we had been through with them. Now think of all of the episodes of Black Mirror you've watched? How many had happy endings? Almost none. Even the ones who had sympathetic characters. Maybe you also loved the episode because of how you were conditioned, after finally finding a happy ending, much like the sims.

This episode was a nightmare and I don't understand why Charlie Brooker (or anyone) would see it as uplifting. It's torturing virtual slaves for the sake of their owner's happiness. Other Black Mirror episodes have shown us what it means to torture virtual people. How can anyone see this as a happy ending? Consider this: in Black Mirror's world, your life *right now* could be a simulation for some other being to benefit from. Horrifying.
@yanikeonpurpose Жыл бұрын
It’s a happy ending because the couple proved spiritually & statistically that they are the perfect match. The software cannot yield a positive outcome without real human input. I don’t see this as torturous, because this is the very nature of real human love. The depth of that love will be tested time & time again, & if isn’t true- it will disintegrate. This is also the premise of human existence. It is only the genuine pursuit of endeavours with pure intentions/high commitment that will yield long lasting results. Just listen to the average story of an entrepreneur. They are tested, try & fail so many times- yet it is their unwavering commitment to their dream that yields the ultimate victory. … & like the simulation, many people buy into the theory that if they dared to try escaping the system/go it alone, be their own boss & take charge of their own lives without relying on the government/some other higher force… they would ultimately perish, or suffer some other deleterious fate. Many would rather invest complete faith in the system & stay locked in it forever, doing the rounds waiting to meet their promised destiny- & to achieve the ultimate reward which is to be told that said destiny has been achieved ie the couple that got married, not realising you have basically committed yourself to remaining in the simulation forever- all under the guise of finding your perfect match.

I think they got a happy ending and got married or something cause the simulation versions of them don’t matter and they actually exist in the real world.

To compare it to my existential dread, maybe these cookies have a simulated, albeit swift, life before deletion.

i think this episode's ending is the most horrifying, right as the simulated version of them find each other they suddenly realize they are really in a simulation and die right away (at least they dont get to experience life together as the ultimate match which is why they escape) i find that idea just fucked up

I just started watching the show on Netflix, I like it so far. The episode mention on this clip about the girl being a slave, is it on this show? I’m watching it in order and I haven’t seen that yet.

Ive never seen the characters as cookies, just as the whole thing as a representation of info for what it takes to get a match.

Will you also break down Lovecraft Country on HBO?

Sometimes youtube takes videos down for silly reasons, sometimes you have to edit something out and reupload, etc.

What's up with Amy and Greta's cookies? Is that community cookie? Are they for the streets 😂😂

people who think it has a happy ending obviously dont understand this episode at all. its a very dark ending. the virtual copies of them are sentient beings, they were tortured and murdered in the end.
@SpideyFPSАй бұрын
exactly how i saw it, the ending is very grim. the protagonists we were rooting for got killed at the end and everyones celebrating like it's a happy ending
