wonderful video, thank you. Love learning those out of the way tidbits that not everyone knows any more; listening to you waffle against the wind is so much better than digging through some musty old book. Honestly, I do love musty old books, but find crotchety old men better. Take care, hope the weather is a bit kinder to you this week.

Priority; get braces that clip on belt/waistband. Or two-sided u/pants! I've not had a greenhouse for years, now must have,.That Buxux/Box I grew from cuttings at old house and 20 years on are over 5 ft. and have given lots of new ones, from plain gold to striped. Sturdy, dense and quick and that's not personal ...

Thank you Malcom. Hope Clara gets well soon. Lovely description of victorian beaver-tail glass and venting mechanisms. Down here in Gatton we are a bit ahead of you, and the weather is due to get chilly again over the coming days. I think you may be in a better situation than us with less new soft growth needing protection as I run round earthing things up. The tree ferns (antarctica) are trying to throw new fronds. Obviously they've loved the weather being warmer than usual and damp as hell. But I'll need to shove a bit of fleece round if either it looks like they might freeze in the crowns or that the new growth might get damaged and clog up where the new fronds will want to erupt from. I only do it if the weather warrants as they want to be out in the rain as much as possible and not wrapped up unnecessarily. My usual pet hate is currently happening in spades. Great big tall daffodils were developed for the cutting trade and flogged as being garden worthy. They all blow over. Give me the little ones any day! They look after themselves and have less leaf to get in the way later when you want the space. Of course there is an exception. Narcissus eystettensis, Queen Anne's double. It's just coming into flower for me. Elegant and stunningly beautiful with its mix of single, double and semi double blooms.

Staghorn Sumac grows wild where I live and the stems are filled with pith. If you cut it into sections kids can gouge out the pith with - well we used straightened out shower curtain rings - and string them to use as beads. The fruit clusters are big and red and birds eat the berries and sometimes I think I see a bunch of Cardinals in the trees but it’s just the fruits. And you can use those fruits to get the tangy Middle Eastern seasoning, Sumac.

I used to run a gardening class when I worked and we ‘d help out at this gigantic old Lord & Burnham glasshouse owned by the city of New Rochelle. Once it got really hot and I needed to open the vents and yes there were all these wheels to turn, almost had a nervous breakdown deciding which to use but we all survived. City neglected it and it was condemned, sadly. ☹️🌱

I know box can be boring but I have a sweet box, it gets little white flowers around this time of year and smells wonderful. I'm enjoying learning about what's around each month. I've been 'shouldering' my pots too, learned from your videos, and they look heaps better.

Ah, the best show of the week. Thanks Malcolm. Quick question, how do you deal with severe canker on apple trees? If it's very bad, very low on the tree, do you need to chop it down? I've lots of young trees and I'm afraid everything's gonna get it now.

Those frosted flame euphorbia’s put me in mind of a cockerels comb or some sort of colourful turkey breed 🦃 haha to the err “little problem” in the woods, I wonder have you ever worn a onesie 😳 probably not but you get the same kind of problem and if you’re a woman it’s even worse...especially if you’re in the woods hahahahaha. Yes to a smelly plants list - top of my list is houttuynia (chameleon I think) can’t describe the smell but it’s quite offensive to my nostrils..lol. Enjoyed seeing the working of the Victorian glasshouse, great engineering. Get well soon Clara 😊 👍

Another great vid Malcolm, I must be a nerd because I enjoyed the Victorian glasshouse section :-) Once again you alluded to stepping down (The section on Thomas seeing the difference in root development between the different coloured pots) Are you considering taking a bit of a back seat?

He's been gone for a year; because of the videos before he disappeared, I thought he was dead. On his website, it says he was going to retire, like four years ago. Would love him to not just disappear again, that was horrible.

If I weren't such a pussy for cold and wet (I'm a good-weather-only-gardener lol), I'd have my own nursery (or atleast be employed at one) *sigh*
