Definitely bringing back memories. I saw them 2 or 3 times late '70s/early '80s in Folkestone. Always a good night.

Brings back my youth in 1987, sitting in my boyfriend's bedroom listening to quality music. My husband used to purchase the Fanzine, the band were always seeking funds, it was worth it.

Good job keeping that covered up - must have been tricky if they both wanted to take you to the same Enid concert.

I remember seeing them for the first time at the Hammy Odeon, must have been around 1985, great gig, I remember getting a personalised cassette recording of the gig through the post shortly afterwards :-)
@robinwatson42827 ай бұрын
Was the cassette thing a one off affair or did they provide this service at other gigs? I'd be interested to hear from people that still have examples!

Can someone confirm for me if this would have been the group my friend would have seen live in Torquay about 1978 ?

This is a live recording filmed at The Maltings, Farnham, UK in 2011. The camera remains on Robert (keyboards) because the film crew needed live footage of him for another project they were working on. Max Read (vocal / keys / guitar) is not in shot. It was recorded at sound check and also the live show. The audio was later mixed at the band's studio

In The Region of the Summer Stars, Aerie Faerie Nonsense, Six Pieces, Journey's End and 'U' ( new album)

nowtleft2 something wicked this way comes. The spell
@abdallateefschannel62064 жыл бұрын
Yes. In the region of summer stars and Something wicked are the two classics. Aerie faerie nonsense centred on the song Fand is neo classical, as is Six pieces, like 6 chamber pieces. And then the spell is really full on classical/tone poems. Salome was experimenting with ballet, avant-garde/classical. Try to get old recordings. As an old hippy i prefer them cos they capture the era, free festivals , communal living

I'm not trolling when I say this, (and I used to really like The Enid and attend many of their concerts), but RJG's stuff is beginning to sound very old fashioned to my ears now: It must be because I've moved on, and my discerning musical tastes now demand something far more satisfying. Having said all of that, I possess most of The Enid's early material in my collection, and will still listen to it on the odd occasion - Journey's End though was a tad disappointing I thought.
@schragemusik5 жыл бұрын
Are you suggesting that those who still like RJG's music have less 'discerning musical tastes'?
@abdallateefschannel62064 жыл бұрын
I got into the enid 84-85. Its clear The Enid died in the late 70s. The spell and salome were very intersting Rjg albums. Then on is nostalgia. Half an hour in the jungle was interesting as a separate project. In my opinion of course
@aquadorian46733 жыл бұрын
I respectfully disagree. You say "old fashioned". On that basis, Shakespeare and Rembrandt are to be ignored. I say no. To be old is not to be worse. As one of my lecturers at music college used to say, the arts are a procession, not (necessarily) a progression. (Discuss!!) . And when you think about it, the influences aren't necessarily progressed either. Some of the things that influenced the past are no longer around to influence us now, so the music written now isn't necessarily 'better' than what was written earlier.
