Disclaimer #2: I am not a Christian so don't take me upload this as some sort of endorsement of Christianity or any religion. The Enneagram is one of those useful analysis tools that exists and was locked away in a vault stolen from mankind in the same vein as the Vatican "can't find" all of Epicurus' writings. It's a valuable tool that allows for a good MATERIAL ANALYSIS and spiritual analysis of the human race and how it operates on a personality level. I encourage you to watch this series start to finish and reflect. I also encourage you to not take the Christian elements too seriously and employ rationality to it. Ultimately though I don't care what you do with this information. No you do not have the right to comment. I will delete if it suits me. No I don't give a damn who "found" or "discovered" the Enneagram first. I'm stripping it of religious connotations to make it more efficient. If you have any more significant questions on the Enneagram on a material, personal, or literature level my a friends and I are happy to start a conversation.

Wow... I *REALLY* don't mean this in a denigrating or belittling way at ALL, but I gotta say, I just find it incredibly disappointing that, non-religious tho you may be, you couldn't just state that personal stance for whatever clarifying quality might seem appropriate or necessary, but then you also felt you had to go on to assert your opinion of how the religious aspect here needs to be stripped away due to its supposed inefficiency or irrationality or your perspective that it shouldn't be taken "too seriously." But I guess for whatever it's worth, I afford you your right to feel that way - even if you may not afford me my right to feel however I feel (or the right to comment to that effect and you delete such things if it suits you).

Thank you for posting this, I find Father Richard Rohr to be a very good teacher of things. I don't mind his "religiosity", some people need this to be enlightened. Probably not everyone as we are all different in some way but I do feel that religiousness is the efficient way for some people. I also don't care who discovered/found the Enneagram, if it helps people, then that's great. If the story of Jesus Christ helps, that's great too. But again, I disagree with the idea that religiousness makes something less rational. Human beings have developed a sense of faith because it is a rational, logical evolution for them and has allowed them to make and do things other animals (literally) couldn't dream of.

Thanks for posting! I love his approach and all his books - a true reformer! Someone asked at the end about how to redeem your type - insight is a start but I feel that consciously relaxing the nervous system is key. Our compulsions are defense strategies so we can access the True Self when we are present and relaxed. Working with the body center is primary and he did mention expelling the energy prior to contemplation. Using all 3 centers is key - insight, compassion and relaxation.

I've had this going around my head for months, I'd almost given up, being certain that I was the one true exception that was a mixture of all. Then when I heard that phrase that Richard says often "we're all addicted to our own way of thinking/feeling", I caught myself thinking "I don't know what my own way of thinking/feeling even is, I'm addicted to other people's way of thinking/feeling (whoever is the person I've attached myself too)!....then so many memories poured through my mind of a very codependent relationship which began with someone exclaiming to me "I need you, I need you! I can't manage without you!" And I was hooked from that point, so definitely a 2. Odd thing is, I've been avoiding being needed since then, as it triggers too many memories of the trouble it got me into, hence it being even harder to discern. I thought how I don't ever get oppositional like the 8 2s are meant to disintegrate to, because I'm far too passive and unconfident for that, but then realised that I can be silently screaming oppositional energy these days which is a very conflicted way to be, and it's so helpful having that finally exposed. This is all extremely helpful.

When I was little, I looked forward to one day having a day job lol I didn’t really care what it was. I just wanted to be responsible for something. I’ll add, my parents put me in school early because I wanted to go so badly. I wanted to get my life started! Finally, it was interesting what he said about body types and walking prayer. My significant other is a 1. Both of us pace a lot. We pace around the house as we think and talk to ourselves like maniacs. I do have doubts I’m not a 5, though. I wish he talked more about that childhood. My family script was very much “be easygoing”. We had mantras like “everything will be ok in the end”. And my family is full of gut types, 9s and w9s. I find myself not sure if I’m a 9 or just told to be a 9.

Much of the talk I’ve heard from Suzanne Stabile and Ian Cron (and their guests) on podcasts makes wings sound like they are relatively stable traits like the core number and people tend only toward one wing. They make reference to people who are “all four” or a “five wing four.” Richard made it sound as if everyone by default has both wings, though they don’t discover or express their wings all the time. If the wings help stabilize your core number to be more effective in life, wouldn’t it make sense to make your wings the focus of your self development exercises?

Amen! Thank you, Jesus! The Teaching is for the children. We are the children when we remember that we started out by pretending; and then we forgot that we were pretending and it became 'real'. Being Christian has nothing to with going to church anymore than being a Doctor has to do with going to Medical School. Church is the School, if you are blessed to be in one founded on original Principles presented in more understandable ways addressing people as they are, where they are; find the right teachers and there will be no limits, and then you by long patience work accumulate and embody the Teaching, acquiring the necessary tools for living creatively in the World around you. Wherever I am, I am in Church, that's the meaning of the Church Universal (Catholic). The best poetry can give no more than hints and indications of "Something" in us that we have forgotten. And our purpose here is to remember it. Our First Love!

I tend to believe the paths of integration/disintegration can go both ways. Rather than the “disintegration” path always being a bad thing, sometimes it can be a very healthy thing and vice versa. A 1 needs to be able to face the darkness within themselves and accept it like a 4 does, rather than trying to condemn it. And the opposite can be true as well. A 1 who is obsessed with their idealistic fantasies and righteousness to the point they resemble a 7 can be quite unhealthy and need some grounding. At least, that’s my experience.
@Noelciaaa2 ай бұрын
Yeah, I honestly think that's the only way it makes sense. I even think that the "disintegration" number is the SHADOW number, aka one that has the darkness we must face in order to become strong enough to begin to become more like our true self, our essence - the "integration" number. I'm a Jungian so I may be based there but it just makes perfect sense to me.

I don't agree with the narcissism of the 4s, self centeredness yes definitely but when I was faced with a narcissists in my life, it was with no exception with a 3 or a 2wing 3. After all, narcissism is manipulation... To be a narcissist, you have to be obscessed with people... a philosopher can't care less and has no interest having someone under his/her thomb... yes he/she is very self centered ... they also need to get out of their heads because they are most scared of their heart qualities...

I agree, this is spot on. Fours care deeply about understanding themselves, but their self centredness is not being malignant or mean to others, its a quest for authenticity, which in itself is healthy and to be applauded. @poesiforankor63494 жыл бұрын
It's not. It's a picture, a map if you will, to discover the workings of the inner self - the psyche. Astrology does the same thing. It's not meant to be provable in the outer, physical sense - that is not where these energies resides. Astrology works, but in a completely different way than it's daughter astronomy. If it doesn't resonate with you, no biggie, but you still have a psyche and it works the same way as all other psyches in this logo system..
@danielthompson25614 жыл бұрын
Because it’s based on the accumulation of knowledge, rather than trusting in psychics. Astrology tells you the future, whether you’ll have a bad day or not etc, and assumes your personality is based on a random sequence of events. This says there are types of personalities based on the observations of generations and generations, it’s just a model for seeing that. We all have conversations which say “you remind me of such-and-such” etc, this is then a bunch of leaders defining that. You identify yourself, I don’t decide it for you. I don’t expect you to do anything either, just might be helpful as a tool in examining your own behaviour, a crucial part of anyone’s journey I’d say...

Like the labyrinth, which was a pilgrimage to Jerusalem during the middle ages, has degenerated to an occult practice. Please be careful! 50 yrs ago I cast personality descriptions using astrology (before computers...had to plot by hand) and charged $20 per chart. The horoscopes were uncannily accurate! I'm not talking about the horoscopes in the newspapers...they are kind of funny like fortune cookies 😄. But anything I guess could be used for evil.
