I do believe that the downfall of Nickelodeon is a mere symptom of the downfall of Hollywood as a whole, with many other channels seeming to go downhill simultaneously and at a similar rate.

Probably my biggest problem with modern Nickelodeon is that if you're not SpongeBob or The Loud House, then the show is doomed to fail. Throughout the 2010's and 2020's, most Nickelodeon shows last for two seasons, at the most, with some only lasting for one season, and being cancelled prematurely. And once these shows end, they are completely dropped from reruns. During the 1990's and 2000's, it wasn't uncommon for a Nickelodeon show to last for four seasons.

Good video, but I have two points: You mentioned SpongeBob, but you didn't mention how huge a hit it was. Nickelodeon had never had a hit this big, and it just never seemed to fizzle out. SpongeBob became a money printing machine, and greedhead thinking took over. Instead of developing new shows, the thinking became "we need another SpongeBob" and if the ratings didn't hit SpongeBob levels, it got canceled. (Butch Hartman said as much in an interview.) The years 2004-2014 are littered with shows Nickelodeon started and then killed. (In retrospect, Avatar looks like a minor miracle.) Which brings us to the real beginning of the end: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The show was good, but it went against everything Nickelodeon stood for: it was made to sell toys. After that, any cartoon they greenlit seemed to be a toy tie-in.

It’s interesting that the downfall of Disney Channel and Nickelodeon happened around the same time. Although there are many reasons for this, I think it all comes down to Social Media. Disney and Nick began to fade in relevance around 2014. It was also the same time that Disney and Nick seemingly put an end to their “pop star machine” they had going throughout the 2000’s that brought us some of the biggest pop stars we know today. For many, Good Luck Charlie and Victorious (which ironically debuted just a week from each other in 2010) are regarded as the last great shows from both networks and after those shows ended, both networks were never the same again. Unfortunately, I think Disney and Nickelodeon have lost the war to Social Media. I have younger siblings, and they’ve never watched either Nick or Disney Channel even though we have cable. They much rather watch KZbin or TikTok. And sadly, that’s the case for most kids because the content just isn’t good anymore. We have Disney+, and my younger siblings choose to only watch the older Disney shows (That’s So Raven, Wizards of Waverly Place, Suite Life etc;) and never their newer shows…which confirmed to me that it’s not my bias of my nostalgia, but confirmation that even kids today don’t like the new shows.
@jaylenadegoke11 ай бұрын
I also want to add that Nickelodeon was always attempting to play catch up with the Disney Channel, which aided in their eventual demise. Although Nickelodeon has given us some great live action shows, where they truly excelled at originally was their animated programming. but during the 2000’s, Nick was feeling a lot of pressure to compete with Disney for ratings and ofc, money. Especially in the late 2000’s when Disney saw huge success with HSM and Hannah Montana, Nick wanted a slice of that pie. And really, it was Dan Schneider that kept Nick in competition with Disney with its live action shows. Although Nick had seen success with shows like Drake & Josh and Ned’s Declassified, it wasn’t until iCarly that Nick would see huge success that could match what the Disney channel was doing. But nicks attempt to chase after Disney caught up with them.

Nick had a plethora of good shows: Rugrats, Rocko's Modern Life, Secret World of Alex Mack, Clarissa Explains It All, All That, Kenan & Kel, Aaah...Real monsters!, Are You Afraid of The Dark, Cousin Skeeter, Mystery Files of Shelby Woo, Catdog, Hey Arnold, Wild Thornberrys, the Brothers Garcia, Caitlin Way, Taina, My life as a Teenage Robot, All Grown Up, True Jackson VP, How To Rock, etc. They just chose to mistreat most of their good shows by the mid 2000s and only putting their eggs in two baskets: Dan Schneider & SpongeBob. They just decided to shove SpongeBob in our faces with daily marathons for years & years and only treating Dan Schneider shows well in the live-action department. That's what caused down the downfall of their company.

- Your Gang was only a pitch, the way it's presented in this video makes it sound like it was a full-fledged cartoon that Ren & Stimpy spun off of. - You pronounced Kricfalusi wrong (kris-fah-LOO-see). - The downfall segment does a very poor job of explaining why it’s a downfall, instead almost entirely being regular history like the segments before it. - Schneider’s Bakery, a very major part of 2000’s Nick, wasn’t mentioned until it shut down. - Absolutely no mention of Invader Zim, one of Nick’s biggest cult shows and certainly one with more lasting impact than Mighty B, Back at the Barnyard, and Planet Sheen. - Saying The Loud House brought back people who were tired of SpongeBob spinoffs is weird, considering Kamp Koral and The Patrick Star Show both premiered in 2021, five years after The Loud House premiered and quickly became the network’s number two show. - The conclusion feels unearned because you don’t really dig into how SpongeBob’s success negatively affected other shows (such as how plenty of new shows would get cancelled after only one or two seasons for failing to live up to SpongeBob’s ratings). I feel like that’s a problem prevalent throughout the whole video. This is not the downfall of Nick, this is a cursory history of it. I like your editing style, but the script feels scatterbrained and sloppily put together. Disappointed as someone who likes Nick a lot. Best of luck with your future videos.

At least we can enjoy as much of the classic Nickelodeon shows on Paramount Plus.

The problem with this video is that you're only talking about shows. Nickelodeon is so much more than shows. It's like when people talk about McDonald's, and only mention burgers. When McDonald's is not in the burger business. They're in the real estate business. Nickelodeon wasn't shows. It was a lifestyle.

I'm hoping the splat logo returning the way it did is a sign that will Nickelodeon will begin to recover and start a new age. Part of me feels that the first thing they should do is make some more female-lead cartoons (right now they don't have any) Also if I were to suggest they revive any of their past shows, I would bring back My Life as a Teenage Robot, KaBlam!, Rocko's Modern Life (like a show that takes place after Static Cling), The Wild Thornberrys, Rocket Power, Chalkzone, and/or As Told By Ginger. Or maybe make new shows similar to them

I wish they braught back Danny phantom Jimmy neutron maybe even do a zoey 101 series they shouldn't have canceled icalry that was wrong. Give neds declassified a new show maybe even bring back the wild thornberries. If they did shows like that it would be going strong.

7:11 What you may or may not know about Kablam was that their animated hosts "Henry & June" became the subject of a few programming blocks. Also, UPICK FRIDAY (1999-2000) was the earliest version of UPICK LIVE that predates its format. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hIq7ZmNtYrWZY5Yfeature=shared

But Guys, I know that Rugrats & The Ren and Stimpy Show & Rocko’s Modern Life & Aaahh!!! Real Monsters & Hay Arnold & The Angry Beavers & CatDog & SpongeBob SquarePants are from Nickelodeon, but Doug, I think in the future, is from Walt Disney, but not Nickelodeon, Why?, Because in February 1996, Walt Disney Company Purchased Jumbo Pictures. 😔

I have nothing against today's Nickelodeon. I mean, I like The Loud House. But, nothing beats the old Nickelodeon. And with the March 4, 2023 rebrand, let's hope Nickelodeon gets back to doing what it does best.

hey anyone remember the nickeloden magazines? i do! i used to get them from like 2000 to 2003 or 2004, just like i used to get LEGO magazines and MAD magazines, i haven't gotten any magazine since at least 2006 , im guessing social media killed it off and the wider use of the internet in those days

I don’t care if this is a controversial take, but IMO their cash cow Sponge Bob SquarePants killed the network for good. They stopped focusing on new content and just hammered out more Sponge Bob. Yes you want to be successful, but when it turns into greed that kills everything else is that really success? 🤷🏼♀️

Kid Danger: *wearing his mighty pup movie outfit* pony subscriber. Don't judge. All that jazz. If i can vent, nickelodeon, to me, has been milking spongebob the yellow square pain in my flank for years now. They cannot let ANY NEW shows be in the spotlight because they only want spongebob. Look, i, Kid Danger the pony who has autism, grow up watching nickelodeon and oh my luna does nickelodeon, minus nick jr, suck chicken eggs HARD! Airing nothing, after airing my beloved PAW Patrol, spongebob. Jesus Christ.
