I think Jaby does a disservice to the movie, when you go in expecting/comparing it to other movies of the genre or by same director. Why don't you try watching a movie and stop looking for things to criticize. Most movies have elements to them that have been seen before or copied. I feel like he tries too hard to be so knowledgeable. He is like the person who doesn't listen when someone is speaking because he is thinking about what he is going to say to one up them.

4:57 "Breaking protocol? So they, like, established some rules beforehand?" I don't think so. I think it's just that they've both been going to the diner regularly for long enough that they've established a sort of routine, and she's never approached his table before. And she, too, has noticed (like you did) that Robert is particular about his routines.

Jaby can you ever just watch a thing and say “I enjoyed that”? Do you have to whine and complain about how everything you watch didn’t quite live up to your expectations cause you were hoping they were gonna do something in your imagination? Or you wish it was longer or shorter. Or you wish they had used a different filming or editing technique? Or whatever. Over time I’ve watched as your unnecessary criticisms partially ruins the experience for Achara who is usually delightful and excited about what she’s seen. Whether its a movie or a Marvel show or video game play through. Come on my man.

As someone else pointed out "Denzel said people used to go to the movies for escapism but now every one on the internet is expecting the movies to be filled with realism." Objectivity is good, especially for reactors, it is part of the experience of us watching you react. But when you do it for a job it seems sometimes you get so caught up in making sure you are doing it, that you are not looking at flaws and strengths because they are apparent but because you force yourselves to over analyze and can come off as quite inaccurate at times even if you end up being correct in the long run. I don't mean guessing plot twists because you recognize the formula from seeing it so many times, I mean; 15:55 We don't know at this point why he is taking photos. Not only is it very possible that he was doing it to lure them out of the car, that is exactly what it looks like happened as after he snaps the photos they express confusion and get out of the car and chase them. Your take gets even worse in the next scene as it is the security cameras that catch a whole lot of very clear video of these guys too. Ultimately, you ended up being right in this particular case but trying to jump the gun and rationalize the scene which lead to ignoring key details didn't look too great for quite some time there. Even if there was reflection and issues with the photo, I have seen wonderous things done in photoshop, let alone government agency exclusive programs for clearing up images for law enforcement and intelligence agencies which he very well could have access to as well but I will admit this is a stretch and they obviously used a cropped photo of the scene instead of using the better justified security cam footage for the movie but felt it important to note that such technologies exist also. 20:49 He CAN reach out and open. Then what? He is hand cuffed to the steering wheel and Denzel is right there, even if Denzels character didn't have a weapon, which he does, he could easily physically stop and restrain him even more. This assumes the cop knew Denzels character wouldn't just kill him for making things more difficult or hurt him worse than he did, which he doesn't, so why would he risk it instead of waiting for a better opportunity where he 'actually' had a chance? 24:48 At which point in the movie did we establish he had a vehicle? Taking something like a Taxi would put someone innocent in this very dangerous situation where as a public bus just goes to its stops no matter what, less interactive too than a Taxi. Nothing indicates he would steal a car either, which would also bring potential unnecessary problems(police attention, owner of the car getting involved, both cases they would get hurt) this isn't very tactical which the movie strongly establishes Denzels character is and in the very next scene, once again, proves this point and counters your "critique". 25:36 Him taking the bus was to fool the audience? How about as I pointed out for 24:49 it was his best and or only option for transportation which he would have the least outside involvement interfering and most control over for that environment, once more he also doesn't have a vehicle that we have ever seen which gets backed up later in the movie too. You think it was to fool the audience instead of a tactical move to fool the armed bad guys clearly luring him in a trap? 27:35 Home Depot does sell barbed wire, especially in big farming and ranch states. Many Home Depot competitor stores like Lowes do too. You can order it online now also. 29:28 Standard military practice is that when on patrol or in an unknown environment conducting sweeps, every few steps you look behind you. Perhaps it is exclusive to the Marines, but I was taught this in boot camp even before I started deployment training incorporating actual patrols and clearing buildings. The silly part is that the guy was by himself and out of communication(in this case the best would be line of sight for hand signals) so that what happened couldn't have happened. 34:06 See, even you were able to catch yourselves doing it 34:37. The points made I think, sorry for the book, perhaps do the same exact thing you are now but try to do it to justify why someone would be doing something in that situation instead of why it would be ridiculous, unless of course the ridiculousness is part of the movie then obviously point it out. Thanks for the reaction, hope you do 2 and the new 3. It is kind of John Wick meets Taken with some sprinkles of its own thing. Take care you guys.

This film is a great depiction of “show don’t tell” It seems a lot of modern day audiences have become very accustomed to being spoon fed exposition and go into a movie expecting it to be a certain way because hollywood has indoctrinated you into a certain format of how a film or a film like this should be. This film shows a lot in every shot without telling you anything but showing you everything. One of the main things you picked up on is the change from the dark to the light. The creative reasoning behind this is that Robert is retired and supposed to be pronounced dead, thats why he lives in the shadows. Until he “asks for permission” if you watch the scene carefully where he goes to visit his friends and he is talking to the woman at her house, behind him is a out of focus picture of her with George W Bush, insinuating she is high up in some form of government agency. After she says to her husband that he didn’t come for help, he came for permission. He is then allowed to come out of the shadows and into the light. It is a very clever visual choice as with other aspects of the film. Which I will not go into deeper analysis with. Its a shame they dont make films like this anymore, they used to. But unfortunately modern audiences have become dumber, not reading into the visual story telling more than what is being told to them through dialogue or just mind-numbing action. Also, why would Nikoli run after a bleeding fatman when he knows he still has the threat of Robert around any corner…🤷🏻♂️ come on. Marvel/disney has ridden people of their common sense 🤦🏻♂️ watch things with an open mind and stop going into potentially great films with a programmed bias.

I think it’s a legitimate complaint that the second half of the movie sort of forgets some of the quirks that established the Robert character in the first hour. But I also think there’s a way to look at it that sort of explains that. I think a lot of his quirks from the super strict regimen to, how he organized every little thing in his life to how he timed every little thing in his life, I think you can look at that as a product of him restraining who he really is. All of that energy he wants put into being a warrior a soldier an operative , man of violence, living a life of peace in a world that’s still doing violent things. He’s almost twitching to get back into the fight and do some good. That’s kind of how I in my own brain bridge the gap between Robert in the beginning of the film and the Robert at the end of the film. It’s a difference between seeing Robert , completely restraining him himself to the point of discomfort and Robert at peace with the idea that he’s going to take a more measured approach to actively helping again.
