As a Burmese let me tell you about the other side of the story. The military took control over the country in the name "national stability". During the military rule, they attacked not only the Rohingyas but also some ethics groups like Karen, Shan, and Arakanese. They have oppressed the Burmese citizens that they don't want to know what's beyond their world. The lack of internet access in Rakhine region makes it hard for the Burmese to know about this case. Also the tension between the Burmese and Arakanese causes problems for the Burmese media to go there. Because of that, the news about this has become one-sided. That gives the military an advantage that the current government would be blamed for that because of "the government controls the military" thing. The military doesn't listen to the government and they are still in charge of the country. In fact, the chief of defense staff is a remnant of the former Military Government. He got his position because of "if you want it, then you get it" thing. He can even de facto elect himself for his position. The Burmese government has to rule the country with the military's constitution (2008 constitution). Before 2016, they altered some laws to prevent Aung San Su Kyi from becoming the president. So the government had to ignore the military doings, waiting to reform the military in their second term and having to ignore the criticism regarding this case. TL;Dr: The military is the problem and they are trying to sabotage the government by any means. *Extra info*: It is also claimed/exposed that the Rohingyas are said to be Bengali people brought to the country and given "white cards" and the rights to vote by the military-backed party so that they could cheat in elections (2010 and probably 2015). So, this "ethnical cleansing" could be "getting rid of the evidence" and "an opportunity to sabotage Aung San Su Kyi's government".
@maddman94684 жыл бұрын
@Stark Industries The Military Party deliberately call them Bengalis. It is still unclear, to the Burmese people, on the origin of the Rohingyas. Some claimed that they wanted recognition that they're a different ethnic group because they are just seen as Arakanese, some claimed that they didn't get on well with the Arakanese so they were just "pushed". I could see them as part of Myanmar's ethic group as Arakan was formerly multiethnical. I just hope that the government could settle the situation with those people when the military junta ends.
@maddman94684 жыл бұрын
@Stark Industries The Military is not as strong as they were back then. They would need to rule the country via the party they founded (like in 2010-15) as the world has known about them. The Democratic government has made better development than the entire military regime in 5 years. This upcoming election is also kinda a bit of a problem because: 1. It's during the pandemic and they can't postpone it (if they postpone, the military will be ranting about it) 2. Instead of 2 major parties, there are now four (or three) 3. There is a risk in developing ethnical tension against Bamar people. But the Democratic party has full support throughout it's history and it has won in all elections held. The main challenge of the democratic government is replacing the constitution written by the military. In the parliament, 25% of the seats are assigned to the military personnel (no matter what the government is), which makes the problem more difficult. In presidential election, the military "representative" elects one of the two vice-presidents. They would take a long time to remove the military out of the parliament and they can finally operate as a true government. Edit: So technically people will be voting for 75%, instead of all seats of the parliament. And since there has been cities being shut down from election due to conflicts by the military, the seats are lost from the 75%. So, if there isn't a landslide victory, the military will decide who would become the president and what the winning party is. It's up to the people to give the Democratic party a landslide victory.

There are way too many internal conflicts in Myanmar. It's like Afghanistan of the South East. Maybe they did it for winning over the Rakhines who are also oppressed and have their own militant group.

And FYI, Myanmar used ethnicity as the basic foundation of the nation, which is the Burmese (the majority ethnics) deemed as the national identity. That's why many other minority ethnicities felt like they're being ignored and wanted to separate. And this separatist act made the Myanmar military junta government becoming so hard and repressive toward them. See: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_insurgent_groups_in_Myanmar The military junta has been oppressing all of them for decades. The difference is, the rest are citizens of Myanmar, while the Rohingyas have intentionally been prevented from being citizens.

I spent about three months learning about Myanmar, and Aung San Suu Kyi when I was younger, by a teacher, who, when talking about her and the plight of the Burmese, would have tears in his eyes. I really, really, believed she was as great a freedom fighter as Nelson Mandela, and as peaceful as Ghandi. I actually shed a tear when I read her recent statement to the UN. I actually want to think the Junta finally got control of her. It'd be the least painful option of the two probabilities.

@@dzikrinasaira3475 the residence of Rohingyas came to exist only after, Mughal conquered Bengal region ( west Bengal state of India and Bangladesh) .after British came, according to their policy of divide and conquer many religious riots emerged in indian subcontinent and in Myanmar tension between Muslims and Buddhists increased as Buddhists faced persecution during muslim dominance in region in period of Mughals. And current outrage is result of above mentioned reasons. The main reason for hatred of Muslims is due to Islamic extremists who took part in communal activities. In Myanmar there is also hindus but they don't face violence. Also in Nepal Hindu (dominant country) Buddhists feel safe..but Islam face violence and hatred everywhere in world..my intentions was not to hurt your sentiments but, ask yourself what is the history of Islam? Kerbal Space Program youtuber 123 Why do you have to hate? As an atheist Turk having Muslim parents and some Christian and Jewish friends all I can say is that I love them and I respect all their religious beliefs. I understand your concerns about refugees and I had the similar ones when over 2 million Syrian refugees came to Turkey. But when you think about it, it's the fault of colonial powers of early 20th century. They left their colonies instantly after WWII, creating authority gaps which leads to formation of terrorist groups or violent behaviours to claim authority. Myanmar and Iraq was British colonies and Syria was a French colony. I am not saying that they wanted these things to happen when they left their colonies, but they could have done it in a better way by establishing governments in which their people can trust and by making this processes gradual rather than instant ones. For the rape situation, I am sorry that these things have happened and I can understand your feelings because I felt similarly when similar things have happened in Turkey. But I now know hatred is not the solution. We should punish rapists by our laws and give secular education to the innocent ones thus they can return to their countries in the future and make them better places. If you think they won't return to their countries consider this: did they want to come before war? Did they want to leave their homes, the places they grew up, the places they fell in love, the places they lived -by all meanings of the word? It's not about nationalities, not about religions, not about politics. It's about humanity. We MUST learn to love each other and respect each other, otherwise we will destroy each other. As Bertrand Russell said: Love is wise, hatred is foolish.

First of all, it is nobody's argument that what has happened to Rohingyas is not condemn-able or even justifiable to say the least. However, given the reality of the Rohingya jihadi secessionist insurgency that has been raging on since 1947 and the murder of many innocent Rakhine Buddhists as well, it is hardly an open and shut case of the persecutors versus the persecuted. There is more to this issue than meets the eye. I fear a horrendously sinister political game at play here (with Buddhist-Muslim tensions a mere spark to light the powder-keg), and somehow the great Sunni Wahhabi Islamic nexus of Pakistan and Saudi Arabia/Turkey/other GCC nations could be directly or indirectly involved. This video clearly omits some important facts about the Rohingyas. They forgot to mention that Rohingyas, who originally hail from the Chittagong region of the East Bengal region (which later became E-Pakistan and now is called Bangladesh), were initially brought in by the British during the Raj to fight the invading Japanese army during WW2 as well as the local Rakhine militia who were allied with the Japanese. They were settled in the Western Burmese region of Arakan or Rakhine state (esp. in it's northern most district of Maungdaw, which borders what is now South Eastern Bangladesh and where they form the majority) and were promised a Muslim state in that region for their belligerent services against the Japanese and the local Rakhine. When the Britishers failed to fulfil their promise, the Rohingyas formed armed Mujaheddin or Jihadi groups against the Burmese Govt. in order to obtain their Dar-al-Islam by seceding from the Dar-al-harb of Burma which was never theirs in the first place. These Rohingya jihadi groups, like RLP, RPF, RSO, ARIF, ARNO and now ARSA (since 2016) were/are being supported by Al-Qaeda/ISIS, Hezbi Islami (Gulbuddin Hekmatyar), Hizbul Mujahideen from Kashmir and Jamaat-e-Islami Bangaldesh and Pakistan's ISI in this 70 year-old civil war in Western Burma which has been going on since 1947 with the independence of the Indian Subcontinental states from Britain. In fact, when Jinnah's Pakistan dream was getting fulfilled by partitioning India, the various Rohingya jihadi groups and political leaders had petitioned Jinnah to annex the Rohingya dominated areas of Northern Rakhine region as part of East Pakistan.
