Each member of Band Maid is essential in the role that they play Band Maid would not Band Maid without each one; however Kanami is the beating heart that drives them. As a guitarist she is up there technically with all of the other great guitarists but is her creativity and volume of production that that makes her stand out from the others. She is a musical savant much like Mozart. Along with her adorable personality and humbleness she stands alone amongst guitarists today.

I think that the fact that Kanami puts all her efforts into Band-Maid is a big reason for their success also. I think all the members are irreplaceable. Each one has important responsibilities and take them seriously.

Wonderful vid. Thank you for this. I'm curious though: at 3:56, your narrative goes, "In the band since 2013, Kanami participated in two EPs and eight of their albums, five of which had her participation in the writing process." This statement I find odd, because it does not state the obvious: that Kanami basically IS the "writing process," as she has alone composed pretty much the entirety of their music (other than a few songs by outside writers) since 2016. Sure, Kanami encourages the other members to elaborate on their instrumental parts - and they do so brilliantly - but that's a far cry from composing the music from scratch, which is what Kanami does for the band. One of the most interesting things I find in their many interviews is that when asked how did such and such a song come about, they inevitable respond, "We wanted a song about X, and so asked Kanami to compose it." I love how Kanami's "demos" are developed by the band into final form, and how humble Kanami is about songwriting credit and how ego-less the band is as a whole, but her role in the band should be understood clearly.

Definitely everything starts with her. Even collab with another band, Dani stated that Kanami had a vision for the song and worked with everyone through the process. Also currently we know Misa and Akane are more involved in writing their parts, but still Kanami is always the one to first come up with the base of the song. She is the driving force behind Band-Maids music without a doubt. I am still waiting for Misa to have a full written song because some of the intro stuff she has done is pretty interesting and different.

@@minchomania I've been hoping that Misa tries her hand at songwriting, but she didn't sound confident when recently asked iirc (the thought of a Misa-song makes me giddy tho lol). I know that Kanami would bend over backwards to help her bring a song to life, so perhaps we'll see something in the future. To my knowledge, the band has developed pretty defined roles over the years, and all the members work hard on the other aspects of band development in order to give Kanami the space to compose.

Beautifully put together video- many thanks. This really got me thinking about- where Kanami is in the world of top rock (to keep it simple) guitarists- not an easy question. I've been following progressive blues, rock, prog and fusion guitarists since 1967 and seen many of them live- but where does Kanami come in the list. For me it comes down to which sounds best and more interesting to me and for how many years, whatever the genre. We have Clapton with Cream, Jimi Hendrix, Jan Akerman in Focus, John McLaughlin in Mahavisnu Orchestra etc, then more recently Randy Rhodes with Ozzy, Slash with GNR and Steve Via etc. Looking at this list- she is in here, but were. I'm going to have to think about where though. You have fun too- good luck.

Cool video but a copywriter you are not. It's about Kanami and her career but you insinuate that she peaked from 2018 to 2019 with the release of two of their best albums and by 2021 her music was chaotic.
