Good morning, I discovered a new rabbit hole of Jubilee videos, TikToks, and Instagram accounts dedicated to sibling-related content. My thesis is that we as a society have evolved - or regressed depending on how you look at it, and a whole new genre of entertainment was born. Basically another mememification of something. Siblings or Dating is social media’s newest trend and I wanted to know why we’re obsessed with playing this weird yet addicting game. The video isn’t that deep but I wanted to see where this fascination comes from and it took me back all the way to the 1600’s, to Odd One Out: 6 Couples vs 1 Secret Siblings, to research that determines what facial features we’re inherently attracted to. When I was a 14 year old my mom wanted me and my 16 year old brother to bond so she sent us off on a mission trip my church was going on for a a couple weeks that summer. Our pastor came up to us after the first week and told us that we had to stop eating breakfast together and hanging out so much because we needed to not make the mission trip all about us dating. He didn’t realize we were siblings even though we had been going to that church our whole lives and had the same last name and face. 😑

LMAOOOO if it makes you feel any better my brother and I look exactly alike (except he’s taller and a man and I’m a woman) but our entire teen years to adulthood everyone assumed we were dating. We both had very unique last name that nobody else has, similar features, and when we talk you can tell we know each other for a long time and aren’t trying to impress one another the way one does when they have a new love. However maybe they just assumed we acted like we knew each other and didn’t care to impress the other because we’d been dating for a long time and lost our romance lmao. Idk I feel like people are used to siblings not talking or hating each other from movies so if you both talk to each other people assume you can’t be siblings because you’re supposed to hate each other

People always assume me and my brother are together too because we don't hate each other? We do a lot of things together now that I'm at an age where we can enjoy the same things(we have a 7 year age gap).We go to festivals together and generally attend a lot of events together and when he was single i felt bad for him because people would always assume. He's very good at breaking the ice for people. So like whoever assumes assumes and is probably insecure, the rest he just comes and introduces them to me straight away and is always like this is my sister (like if we're dancing next to each other and enjoying the music we'll obviously engage in the crowd by giving each other a smile or pat on the shoulder - so people are like ooh people who look around the same age who r close... They dating. Its so bad when my baby sister was born some of his friends who didn't know me as an adult thought that was mine and his baby💀 I wanted to perish.

I do find it interesting as a mixed girl (black/Dutch) born and raised in a west European country. My own countrymen don't seem that interested in me (supposedly because I look very different then the norm) but east European men seem to be over represented in the types of men that approach me. Idk why east European men specifically? I also tend to attract middle eastern guys which I find a little more understandable. But it's funny that the whitest blue eyed men seem to like me lol. I have a preference for dark hair and 90 percent of the man I've dated are blond. I do notice that I'm significantly more popular around black men tho. Having lived this, this is funny as hell. My sister and I are half-siblings so we look nothing alike. When she got pregnant, I went with her to all the "New Parent" classes provided by our local hospital in place of her boyfriend because he just dipped after finding out and I wanted to support her. Everyone, including the nurse heading the class, assumed we were a couple, and treated us as such. I was 17 at the time and had no idea about those kinds of pretenses when it comes go expecting parents so I only realized how weird it was when I looked back on it four years later.

Well, everyone is related if you go far enough back. I mean, yes, have a look into both families, but I don't think you have to really dig in. You have as much genetically in common with your 4th cousins as you do with the average person of your ethnicity. People tend to date people who they have on average as much genetically in common with as with a second cousin. Yes, that kinda is the point this video is talking about anyway, we tend to date people who are genetically kind of similar to us and I don't think it's such a terrible thing. If you like someone, I don't think you have to check whether they actually are your second cousin or not, when in terms of genetical similarities, there might not really be a difference anyway.

Tbh growing up in an opposite sex siblingship is really annoying. People that know my brother and i (sister) are siblings seem to make assumptions about our siblingship. By people thay know we're siblings, i mean like family members....immediate family members. As children our paternal grandmother wouldn't let me and my brother play together because she was worried about one of us turning gay (didn't work cause i'm gay af) or she thought one of us (most likely my brother) would $exual abuse the other. It really effected our siblingship even now as adults because we feel like we shouldn't be close or hangout even though we like a lot of the same things.

This is such an interesting concept that I've heard over the years, "people date those who look like them". Can't relate in the slightest. None of my ex's look anything similar to me and the majority of my friends and family also are with people who look nothing like them.

Ever since my younger brother and I were both teenagers and older people have mistaken us for being a couple (before then everyone thought we were twins). It got especially bad when we were in college. I have the feeling it was because we shared a car? So we would always come together and leave together for everything. And on top of that we're actually friends and don't hate each other. One time someone asked us if we were married and I immediately said 'nope! he's my brother!' It always weirded me out a little. It's amazing what people assume

this is why im not usually attracted to someone in my specific racial ethnic group because it just looks like you're dating someone you could be related too, its weird. like i get back then it was harder too do but now theres more opportunities out there with the internet yet people still do it which i think speaks volumes. Edit: lol I never said I wouldn’t ever date inside my race, I just said I’m usually not attracted to people within my race. I said ethnic race because I’m Puerto Rican which is a mix of 3 races so it varies compared to most ppls racial background in general.

Like all Japanese, Africans, Indians, etc. look the same but in reality they aren't doppelgangers of each other and actually have distinct differences

@@evelynvslife I agree. My friend tried to use this same reasoning as Angelica2k as for why she won't date people of her own race and it just doesn't make sense. People within a racial group do not that look that much alike, at least to the point where everyone looks like their particular sibling/or cousin. Dating within your race is a non-issue and it's superficial for people to act like it's weird when they probably have their own insecurities about their relationship with their racial group or something.

@@saxviars9749 playing devil's advocate, you can make the argument that they live in a place where they were the only family of their race and not gotten the chance to meet more people of their race Although I would agree, if I grew up in my origin country, or if I live in a hispanic dense environment, I would notice the different small distinct features Edit: I meant to say that meeting people that are of your race irl helps to not see everyone looking like family members :U tho.... that doesn't help that white people in america still date those who look like them...

My dad only comes home like once a month, so my mom is pretty lonely. My mom then started to treat my younger brother as a "boyfriend': 1. She slept in the same bed with my brother, until he is 18 and he said he doesn't wanna do that anymore (She never sleeps with me. I sleep alone.) 2. When they go outside, they would hold each other's hands or arms (She never holds me. I walk alone.) 3. She calls him "baby" (and calls me by my first name or full name.) 4. They even go travel together (without me) and go into hot tub together (without me). etc. I feel like an outsider in this family my whole life. I think this is more than just parental love or child favoritism. I believe this is because my dad is not around, and my mom redirect her obsession towards my brother.

I am an only child and when I read stuff abt siblings doing things together that only nonrelated couples should be doing, I was so traumatized and scared cos I know so many ppl who have siblings. So I had to ask my bestie, and she grounded me before my paranoia ruined me. *edit: everyone I knew had siblings, my cousin aka bestie just helped me calm down and had to tell me that this isnt common and not normal if siblings were to act like a couple

I realized after having my kids that genetics make no sense. 2 girls, 1yr apart & they do not look related at all. Both had blue eyes until around 10yrs old, now they're both greenish/hazel. Parents- blue & brown. Parents height- both 5'10, theirs-5'4 & 5'8.

I knew from the very beginning, and what gave them away, is when they were ask to say when they had their first date, every couple said it together, but those two guys didn't, only one said it. I mean, I could have been wrong, and it could have been because the other guy was shy to say it, or simply couldn't remember, but it made me very suspicious of them. On the another question about the sex position, the same dude answered, and his brother repeated, but they looked a bit uncomfortable with the question, which I think I saw when they looked at each other and the nervous giggling also was a sign. I'm a single and never was in a relationship, so maybe it's easier for me to notice the body language or smth, but people in romantic relationship tend to stand closer together, may have their feet turned more in the direction of their significant other, their body may be turned more in the other's direction too, they look at each other very often, for a longer period of time, and has this "look" in their eyes. They tend to smile looking at each other, and don't feel weird when they'd accidentally touch each other. Also, their arms were like taken away from each others, and the shorter brother had crossed arm too. That's all I noticed :0.

This video gave me the most heinous flashback of a holiday I took with my family several years ago. I was maybe 20, with my brother being fresh out of secondary school. We were at a hotel in Mexico and he and I were in the lift on our way to lunch. We were being immature and making stupid faces into the reflective surface of the walls when we heard a ding indicating the lift being called to another floor. We immediately stopped and turned around so as not to seem as though we were idiots and I guess we were standing too close, and looking like deer caught in the headlights because the older Australian couple walking in turned to us and the gentleman said ‘don’t worry, we were young and in love once too’ with an ‘understanding’ chuckle. Humiliated, I immediately went to explain that we were not, in fact, a couple, but that he was my younger brother and that we were just making silly faces in the reflection because we were indeed morons. The couple was very apologetic, though I just recall me and brother being so incredibly repulsed at the mere thought of being confused for young lovers getting ‘hot and heavy’ in the lift that we couldn’t look each other in the eye for the remainder of the afternoon. I don’t understand how anyone could even willingly pretend they and their sibling are a couple, even if offered a _____ load of money. It’s just disgusting.
