''Cursus honorum: the Ladder of Politics'' - Chapter 5 Having been consul, a Roman politician would not be done, as you might expect. Ex-consuls, like those who previously have held the position of praetor, could either become a provincial governor, a task that speaks for itself, or a censor. Censor was the most prestigious political office in Rome. Originally a religious function, it quickly became a very important political function. Censores were in charge of the official senatorial roles. This meant that the censores alone could give or could take senatorial status. A senator that did not meet certain financial standards, for example, could be deemed unworthy of his senatorial seat. An eques -- a social status often translated as ''knight'', but we often seem ''very wealthy citizen of non-aristocratic origin'' -- who gained political favour, on the other hand, could be deemed worthy of a senatorial seat. The latter, newly added acquisitions to the senate, were called ''homines novi'', singular: ''homo novus''. This translates to ''new man''; quite literally because senators were sometimes considered to be a manly race on their own. A bit hypermasculine, if you ask me. Furthermore, censores held pseudo-annual the official citizen-tallies. Every so often, the Roman tax-system needed to know exactly which amount of tax it could demand from every Roman. Censores were tasked to keep track of individual as well as family wealth. All capital was noted down, giving handy insight into the state's overall wealth and amount of citizens. A censor was perhaps not as legislatively influencial as a consul would be, but having absolute power over who was or was not a senator meant that censores were a very big deal. A new political rival? ''Wouldn't it be a shame if my friend the censor would remove you from the senate roll because of that one tiny ordeal betwixt us?'' That concludes our run of the cursus honorum for now. We will, from time to time, see the now complete ladder pass by, but not in so much depth. What comes next? Soon you'll see.

I would immediately pull all but one army back to Latium. The one you already have in the north should be able to clean up the rest, and your new neighbour is both incredibly strong and pissed at you for some reason.

So there’s kind of a problem with letting Camillus just die, his party will still exist after he dies. Someone else will take over and they will HATE you for losing the top general sometimes as much as -30 loyalty for losing the faction leader. You will gain influence to your party yeah but that faction will definitely secede shortly thereafter. As a way to kill two birds with 1 stone; do everything you can to decrease loyalty in Camillus’s faction and then provoking a secession will have that party break off and the AI will take care of the army for you. Plus when that migration army kills the secessionists the rest of your factions will LOVE you. But the downside to this approach is it could totally backfire; you piss of Camillus’s faction, Camillus dies and that party gains a new province in your territory and then secedes with a half stack of OP Histati, Triarii, Principes that will swamp almost everything you throw at it. (It appears that secession armies have ALL technology unlocked when they spawn so if you let them go too long they can recruit 10 units at once-quickly overwhelming the AI and possibly even you.) Also as a side note, you can “join the war” against the Venetian enemy Inusubres to increase the chances of getting a defensive alliance with them. Joining wars normally gives +10-20 diplomatic standings with whatever faction you want to improve relations with.

JackieFish drastically underestimated the AI, he acted like the secessions were the same as rebellions and the AI steamrolled him over and over. It was fun to watch the AI kick ass bc he didn’t care about half the game.
@lionheartx106 жыл бұрын
Looks like it'll be a challenge either way, first I have to hope I can provoke Camillus enough but I'd image I don't even have a turn to do that as the Histri will attack in the end turn phase. Might just try and save as much money as possible to then throw all the actions / secure loyalty on Camillus' pissed off successor.
@DKraken9916 жыл бұрын
So what you could do, although it’s a really defensive attitude to take and kind of a grind to do, is to scrap the plan of keeping Camillus in the North. Either disband the army up north or basically use the game mechanics to your advantage. Compare which two parties have the best stats out of the 3 and actively work towards pushing that 1 faction to secede. You can take a turn or two off from expanding to pull your armies back to whichever territory might secede. Whenever it does break off you can destroy anything that spawns right away and can quickly retake the province. Going along with the using the mechanics to your advantage theme you can replace Camillus with the leader of whatever faction you dislike the most and let the Histiri eliminate the political rival for you. That loss of loyalty along with any negative intrigues/provoke you do can easily force a secession. Another way to decrease loyalty quickly is to promote everyone and their spouses in your faction. That way the best “party traits” win out and the factions will be easier to manage in the late game. Basically in order to get the best possible parties in power with really easy traits to manage you would be creating a “controlled” secession to deal with the bad apples so-to-speak.

Hmmm yeah I could do I think though that while the most efficient its also the least fun / challenging, I think as I mentioned in this part that I liked the story of sending Camillus into exile and it worked to help reflect his split from the House of Furia. I think as they say, every dog has his day and Camillus' is about to be over. The ramifications of which will have potentially a major impact on Rome... of which I embrace the coming storm and challenge ;) I appreciate the strats though, I may need to purge the other houses of Rome at some point and your advice on the matter will be of great help :)

Honestly, I think your AI allies were waiting to see which way the battle was going, before committing to engage. It was only after those enemy units started to break, in the streets, that the ships began moving toward shore again. The AI is clearly opportunistic as fuck.
