I've binge watched S1 and S2 over the past few days to be all caught up for S3. Never a dull moment with this show. I agree that the only downside to being caught up is having to deal with commercial breaks from now on. But I'll tough it out for the sake of Expanse. And thanks, Chi-Normies, for opening my eyes to this underrated gem of a series. If it weren't for you all, I would have let it pass me by without a second thought.

I've been hearing that a lot of people really love Terry Chen as Prax, he's done a great job with that character.

Yeah, but the reason I'm singling out Terry Chen / Prax is because I like him more in the show. It's kind of along the same lines as Errinwright, except that with Errinwright I believe the writers were in concert with the direction to give him a greater depth of character that allowed us to identify with and like him more, even as we recognized him for one of the "Not Good" Guys. With Prax, I feel like the overall improvement is coming from Chen's acting - and probably the director's allowance, etc. In the books, he can be extremely annoying. There's a point where another character (no spoilers) slaps him around and knocks him out, and I thought, "About freaking time," because I wanted to reach into the story and snuff the otherwise empathetic little guy. Not so in the show.

Terry Chen has made a career of playing mostly bad guys, thugs and such, with limited opportunity to show any range. This has been a great role for him (and he's said this) because he gets to show a different, way more interesting side of himself. His humanity really shines through in the role. I've also (thanks to the generosity of SyFy to a group of us here in NYC who get together to watch the show) had a chance to meet and talk with him last year, and he happens to be a really nice guy, and quite smart. Also, according to the women in our group, he smells really good, but I wouldn't know anything about that. :)

Yes, there is type of tree that has pine-cones that only open up to release the seed at extreme temperatures (in forest fire) so after the fire new trees can grow because all bushes and grass was cleared leaving space for new young trees. Amazing how nature has it's own mechanism.

It's just amazing to watch how Bobbie transforms from a fish out of the water when dealing with scheming politicians to a Rambo esque marine that takes no shit from anybody when put in a combat situation. The calm calculated way where she figures out a rescue plan and that spacewalk is just a testament that she's get nerves of steel. As far as Cotyar, I agree with you guys, I think from a story line perspective that handshake was the final goodbye and Avasarala knew it in her gut that he was taking one for the team. On a real life perspective I think he might be busy with other show/movies and maybe his schedule didn't work for a full S3? Either way it's nice that they gave some closure if it is his last moments on the show. Lastly, we can see how broke Syfy is when it clearly shows they broke the bank to make the special f/x look so good on this show and the only way these guys can make ends meet is running an Ad every 5min... It's frustrating but can't blame them, they gotta pay the bills to make the show somehow. Just wish that the writers had gotten the green light from one of the big fishes that was looking to add content. This year especially when Amazon, Apple, Netflix are all vying to compete against networks and premium cable channels like HBO, this show would have gotten green lit so fast with 10 times its current budget, mainly because the source material was so rich and one only needs to say "game of thrones in space", to get those suits to show up with money bags in hand. Still Syfy despite its ads are showing a lot of great value for the money spent, the way BSG did the same during its heydays.

Just a comment on Dawes and Fred. They are (deadly) rivals on the same factions. They are both fighting for the Belt but have very different visions. Whereas Fred want co-existence with Earth and Mars, Dawes is all about the rage of the people. He want an independent belt likely through a prolong revolutionary war that neither Earth nor Mars have the stomach for. Fred was only being nice on the surface to offer up Dawes as the representative for the Belt. He is trying to "promote" him away from his power base. With Dawes out of the way, Fred become the de facto leader of the belt, kind of like Chrisjen being Earths leader by being the 3rd down the leadership ladder. Fred is trying to "kill" Dawes politically. Dawes was too smart for that, he turned it around and incite a mutiny on Tyco.

I've loved all of your reactions so far, and I'm so glad to see you guys are continuing to watch live! One thing I will say, though: as a book reader, it's a liiiiittle frustrating to see some of the reactions you guys have to Naomi, although it's not really your fault because the books do give more insight into her character and where she's coming from than the show has so far. Not getting spoilery or anything, but Naomi being a Belter (and the only Belter on the crew) and thus doing things she thinks will help the Belt =/= her wanting to be OPA! I mean, in the S2 premiere Holden even apologizes to her because he knows that she never wanted to team up with Fred or be tangled up with the OPA again, and her response is "I ran with some bad people once. Stupid kids with OPA tats and big ideas. I got involved in some things, and innocent people died. So I said never again." And in 1x05, back when they first decide to go to Fred, she says "I've known guys like him. Guys with causes. Causes that get people killed." which I think makes it pretty clear that she's fundamentally opposed to what the OPA currently is. One thing about Belters that didn't completely translate from the books is that physically, they are different than Earthers and Martians. They show it in 1x01 with the gravity torture, and they hint at it again when Naomi is the only crew to get a bloody nose after a high-g burn because she physically can't endure that kind of pressure for long. In the books, Naomi towers over the rest of the crew because she grew up on ships and stations, which are low-g and zero-g environments. And in most cases, Belters couldn't survive down the gravity well of a planet, which means if anything happens to the Belt, Belters are pretty much fucked. So even if her decision was questionable, it does make sense that she'd want to at least give the Belt what she thinks could be a chance to level the playing field, especially since they've have been fucked over by people from the inner planets for decades. Her methods weren't great, but them essentially freezing her out without even letting her try to explain her reasoning isn't exactly the best way to handle the situation they're in now, either. Anyways, what I'm trying to say here is, give Naomi a chance, please! She's a fascinating character who eventually gets one of the best storylines in the books, in my own opinion at least, and I really hope we get to see it on-screen in the next few seasons. And I can't wait to see where this season goes! Looking forward to more reactions, too!

Naomi does a lot of more questionable stuff in the show than she does in the books, though. And I hated it at first, but I've come around now and I actually think this version of Naomi makes more sense, because of her history (which I hope they get into at some point). But the show version of Naomi is a little harder to like, probably because she's more human and more flawed. I think that's a good thing, though.

I haven't read the books but from my perspective, what people aren't seeing is that she only gave the PM to Fred Johnson AFTER it was confirmed that Mars & Earth got it. Originally she, along with the Roci crew felt that NO ONE should have it. But once the two superpowers had it then it becomes a simple matter of HER PEOPLE SURVIVING. It's real easy for people to judge her when they don't see the parallels in today's world and how most likely EVERYONE is in a country that is either nuclear armed, or PROTECTED by a nuclear armed country: Japan, Germany & most of Europe & Asia is under the U.S.A's nuclear umbrella. Chunks of the Arab World & some former client states are under Russia's nuclear umbrella, etc. So Naomi sabotaging her friendship & trust with her crew is the price she pays for protecting her people. If she's wrong, then so is Israel for getting nukes to guard against overwhelming numbers. China is wrong for protecting herself against annhiliation from Russia OR The U.S. Pakistan is wrong for protecting herself against nuclear India---a country that hates their guts. Your friends or your people. That's the choice Naomi had to make.

5:24 I kinda agree with Mikey. Don't get me wrong he's a terrible person, but i love the character. I love how cunning and machiavellic he is, and enjoy seeing him navigate his way out of a corner. Very entertaining. Conversely, how do you think he'll evade (if he does) getting executed for his crimes? I think he's only option now is to seize power by weakening the trust in the Secretary General. Since he's managed to convince him to start a war, if he were to gain power consolidating it in the name of "extreme times require extreme measures" would be relatively feasible.

"To teakettle" means to rely on the superheated steam/water vapor that provides propulsion mass for the manouvering thrusters as opposed to the plasma produced by the fusion-reaction of the Epstein drives. Obviousely steam is much more primitive, much less effective but comparatively safe (even though a miniature reactor still has to provide the energy to heat up the water).

Johnson's move here, of attempting to reconnect with Dawes after the sh!t that *just* went down makes zero sense. Even from a coldly practical pov it doesn't work because he's saying even with every card he gets he'll always need Dawes. At least we got to hear Drummer call Naomi a bitch, and not in an admiring sort of way.

Johnson *needs* Cortazar. And the only way to get him is through Dawes. He can't just break into Ceres and steal him. When it comes to support, Dawes has the upper hand, because he's a real Belter, while Johnson is just an Earther. But judging from the books, Dawes will play a more crucial story next season. It was already confirmed Jared Harris won't appear in this season as Anderson Dawes.

I had the exact opposite read of Drummer's "bitch" comment. I thought admiration was *exactly* what she was conveying there. I guess we'll find out in time. As to Fred Johnson, his outreach to Dawes may be risky, but I think it's a risk worth taking. As others have noted (and as Fred himself has noted), he has the protomolecule sample and Dawes has the one guy who is best positioned to make productive use of it, making this one of those situations where two assets together amount to way more than the sum of their parts. Johnson knows this, and Dawes, even with all his narcissism and hubris, knows it too. This also fits with Fred's character. He's always been about uniting the Belt and turning the OPA into some sort of legitimate nation, and he realizes that this is a rare opportunity to do just that, perhaps the one and only shot he'll ever get at it. But it'll never happen without Dawes' blessing, and Fred is astute enough to know this. It certainly could, and well may, backfire, but it's still probably the safest way forward.

I honestly am kinda selfishly glad Naomi's on the outside now, though I'm also kinda worried. Even though I dislike her (more here, less there) she is a *majorly* important character.
