Mao's people FOUND the Protomolecule on Phoebe, an extra-solar object, so the assumption was that the Protomolecule was SENT here by something with Phoebe as its delivery system. You guys are getting messed up because the dying scientist lady said _"We made it.......do what WE wanted"._ With that pause in the middle, it's easy to misinterpret her statement as meaning that they _created_ the Protomolecule when she was really saying they could exert some degree of _CONTROL_ over it. (Obviously not very much, since the hybrid trashed the lab and killed her the second it got free)

Yeah, the protomolecule was found by Mao's people on Phoebe, and the assumption is that it was sent to our solar system from elsewhere (presumably by aliens). Re-watch the final scene of Season 2 Episode 2, where Dresden explains things. He talks about how he thinks the protomolecule was sent here on purpose because they (the aliens) knew there was life in our solar system, and wanted to use the protomolecule to "hijack" that life for their own purposes. What are their purposes? We don't know yet. I think we're meant to assume that whatever is happening on Venus is about the *real* purpose of the protomolecule, whereas the things that Earth and Mars are doing with it are their own applications of it.

Um, I think you're also a bit confused. Phoebe is actually one of Saturn's moons. I think what the dying scientist (Dresden) said instead was that the protomolecule itself was of extra-solar origin.

@@renx81 - I understand that Phoebe came from some place from outer space into the Solar System, and then it was captured by Saturn, so that it began orbiting the planet. It's a very atypical moon among the ones orbiting Saturn, and the explanation is that it came to be there from a different place.

Just as a fyi, the ship being taken apart, it's described in the book like the protomolecule is tearing apart the ship by its base components. For example you can see the screws floating alone out in space. The humans on board are just casualties to this getting suddenly exposed to Venus' toxic air.

@Octopus yeah no it's not. I don't like Dawes but he isn't stupid. He understands if they nuke Earth Earth nukes the belt and the belt has no way to stop the nukes resulting in them being completely wiped. Dawes is suggesting returning them to Earth because if they keep them and Earth or Mars realise they will be attacked and all belters will be destroyed. He understands there is no way the belt can win a war against the inners.

Everything up until now has really been backstory. The true adventures coming up will take the viewers to a whole different level of WOW. Even minor details of this past season might take more than a few seasons to have the payoff. Just fascinating story arc.

The protomolecule doesn't defy the laws of physics so much as it uses laws we don't fully understand. Or at least that's the author's intention. Some of it might be proven wrong in time, but it's not handwavium magic. I can think of a few ideas the writers are probably playing around with: 1. Dark Matter/Dark Energy: Has implications of ANTIGRAVITY. It might be why the universe's expansion is accelerating. Presumably this stuff is everywhere. 2. Higgs-boson particle: Sometimes called the "God" particle, when in wave form it gives everything mass. Theoretically if you suppress it's action then you can eliminate mass. Zero mass = zero inertia, so Miller doesn't get squashed like a bug when Eros violently changes course. Zero mass also makes the speed of light attainable. 3. Quantum Entanglement: When two particles are in contact & then separated, they mimic each other's actions even when separated by vast distances. Information could theoretically be transmitted across interstellar distances instantaneously, circumventing the speed of light barrier. Some combination of #1 & 2 could turn Eros into a gravity drive ship. It could also be used to move objects around. #3 is why the PM on Venus reacted INSTANTLY after the Hybrid got vaporized by the Roci. It's also how the PM could store information in a massive "hard drive" or "virtual cloud". The particles link up over vast distances to form an information network which could store all the information on everything it's ever come in contact with, including people. So Julie, Miller & the population of Eros could be "alive" as data within that medium. Granted, this is all based on very theoretical ideas in science but at least it's got a shred of plausibility, so it's still within the realm of science fiction & not fantasy.

In the books the drive plumes of the Epstein drives are way more dangerous than depicted in he show. Basically every long range ship has a deadly weapon at its disposal by just turning around and powering up. That way you can melt the docking ports of every station, which is why it is illegal to fire up your Epstein unless you are several tousand kilometers away from the port. Ditching that rule made the start of the mormon generation-ship "Nauwoo" way more awesome looking though, so I am not complaining. :)

No that's not why a ship is considered a weapon. The reason is the tremendous amount of speed it can attain. An iron meteorite of 100 m diamater impacting the earth at 60 km/s produces an explosion of about 1.6 Gigatons or roughly 1/4 of all nukes currently deployed or roughly 140 thousand times larger than the Hiroshima bomb. That's what the line: A fusions drive's efficiency as a weapon is directly proportional to its efficiency as a fusion drive. So point any decently sized ship at a target and hit the throttle and the impact will be absolutely massive, making a nuke look tiny.

The Showrunners are being so smart by Breaking up the books the way they have. The Season finales for both season 1 and two... basically end about halfway through the books. So the season finales really aren't. I really recommend the books, not to be a snob, but because they compliment the show so well. And its why I like it better than Game of Thrones, because the show and books are really compatible with each other.

I believe Julie and Miller are alive, but as part of a collective mind. I think that is what the proto-molecule does to humans. This is what I think happened in Eros. I think it's like a virus, that infects the host and alter its physiology and behavior to survive and spread more.

Fred Johnson's definitely the Belter leader who you want to give the protomolecule to. He'd only use it as a deterrent or as a final retaliation against a PM attack on Belters. Dawes would probably use it in an act of genocidal terrorism if he could find a way for his side to get away with it.

No one can give Naomi shit about her actions. Yes she lied but everyone on the Roci's homeland been playing the protemolecule game from jump including Earth and Mars. She realized that once again as HISTORY HAD PROVEN the belt would be the one in the middle suffering the most which we see all season long. So she did what she felt just to her heritage and I really don't want to see the team giving her too much crap for too long because of it because that vote was in a sense bias and especially knowing what they know, what she did makes even more sense because you cant put the cat back in the bag. And Naomi held Holden's secret about answering that call Season one. She took his perspective into consideration. That single decision he made put them square ass in the middle of this war anyhow and sorta kinda got a whole crew killed. Give my girl a break.

Well, in fairness to the creators of the protomolecule, it was only intended to repurpose microbial life, not full-blown sentient beings. It was launched when there was nothing but microbes on Earth. Political betrayal, the mystery and menace of the protomolecule on Venus and the Roci with those story arcs being adequately wrapped up temporarily while Naomi touts the fallacy of war after war somehow being fixed by having all factions go nuclear. We all know how well that works out.

I have this awful feeling Syfy is looking to pull the plug after this season, like they did to Dark Matter. Especially as they announced another George RR. Martin series in production. Syfy has done very little promotion for it. And they didn’t do a recap of the series they way they have done with others.

The Expanse sort of feels like what Firefly could have been if it hadn't been cancelled without the comedy. It's like a grown-up version of Firefly. Can't wait for Season 3. Y'all should watch ReBoot!! The animation for the first two seasons is a lil bit awful, but it was really the first show to be fully 3D animated.
