Hello all! Sorry for the late upload. A few sacrifices have to be made so we can get a full crew on board. Suraj finally has returned and is permanently joining the crew along with Micky! Our CREW HAS BECOME MORE FULL! Today we react to Season 3 Episode 4 titled Reload and our crew did exactly that. What did you guys think about our crew letting those martian soldiers go?
Another episode with a lot of good laughs and some good old fashioned Gravity Falls Weirdness. I wish growing up really worked like this !

Ah, a boy and his legos. I remember my first set.... But seriously, what's weirdly interesting is that Katoa is basically doing what the protomolecule does. Dismantling mechanical & biological constructs like the way the Arboghast was pulled apart over Venus. He's now just another cog in the Protomolecule machine. A disturbingly realistic touch was Strickland covering his nose due to the smell. Anyone that's ever worked in a hospital & had to enter the coroner's office knows what that's about.

Those Martians were SO lucky Holden likes to feel up stuff because their ship was open to hard vacuum and any sound they made wouldn't be heard, even by people right outside. Holden FELT the vibrations through the ship's hull. That's why he asked everybody to stop moving; to eliminate any interference.

No, Holden heard it. Sound travels through any medium, including solids. They were walking on the deck, so they would have heard it via their feet. When he touched the deck, he heard it, rather then felt it, through his glove.

The Martian survivors from the Martian fast gunboat were from one of the battles that was fought around Jupiter between the Martian and UNN fleets. The 5 Martian first strike weapons platforms which were destroyed in episode 3 by the UN were unmanned. I believe the weapons platforms being unmanned might have made it easier for Secretary General Esteban Sorrento-Gillis more willing to authorize the strike on them. The 5 weapons platforms were between Mars and Earth far away from Jupiter.

The debris field where they found the ship with the survivors in was around Jupiter. It was the result of the space battles that are taking place between Earth and Mars. It looked like Holden's ship, but with the nose section cut off (I think the survivors even mention that the bridge got blown off at the start of combat). It has nothing to do with the Planet Buster stations/ships. Those were located somewhere between Earth and Mars. All the big space ships have rail guns, so I guess their ship just was unlucky enough to be in the path of one.

Bob Crossen I think, like Game of Thrones, the show will be tone down a little bit from what they showed in the books just because of budget. They also seem to be changing quite a bit of stuff from the books, and actually making a lot more interesting dramatically. So it'll be interesting to see how things go.

takanara7 yeah I'm just thinking episode six is going to be the big one to watch. I don't want to explain in detail for fear of spoilers, but it is the most pivotal event in the first three books. I imagine if there is one scene they go all out on with CGI, it will be that one.

The way I read what Katoa/proto was doing was that he was trying to figure out what parts of the human body were easiest/best to alter molecularly and which were best to leave mostly as is.

The ship they rescued wasn't a nuke ship. Martian nuke ships could have no people for all we know. It could be any random ship, the whole solar system is thousands of Martian and Earth ships duking it out, battles happen every day.

Correct. Not a nuke ship. It's just a martian fast attack ship that was destroyed in a skirmish of the war between Earth and Mars. They found it on the scanner and stopped to scavenge resources from it because they depleted everything saving Avasarala and Bobbie.

I suppose I should clarify. By nuke ship, I mean the planet buster ship as the Normies thought it was in the video (and following in the line of AlHoresmi's comment). It's just a ship similar to the Roci that has torpedos and nukes, which is exactly why it was a perfect ship to salvage from.

You have to remember, as far as Mars (or anybody, really) is concerned, the "Rocinante" is the Tachi, a Martian navy corvette that was assigned to the Donager. There aren't any records or witnesses to prove the captain of the Donager actually gave the Roci crew the ship (if she even did - she just said to use it to escape) and so them being pirates or something is a logical assumption. They aren't even UN Navy, so they can't claim it's a legitimate prize of war. Of course, we see how the Belt would like to build up their own war fleet and become a real nation rather than a bunch of colonies; so things can change...

most people want pablum shows unfortunately. Its a miracle a sci fi show based on a hugo nominated novel series (where they are following the books) is even on though so im thankful. If we get to the big event upcoming (hint hint) ill be ok (not happy though) if we only end up with 3 seasons). Im buying all the episodes on amazon to support the show. They have re-arranged things but all the core events from the books are there so im pretty sure event X will be happening soon (it might be moved to the last episode of season 3 though). Ive only recruited one friend to watch it - i promote it all the time to my friends on FB

I love this show but I'm not surprised it's not that popular. It is virtually impossible to follow without doing considerable research outside of the episodes or having read the books. They have done their best but it's no secret that it's not easy to adapt a novel series to a TV show, especially when they are trying to move at such a breakneck pace. I have introduced countless friends to it and none of them like it because they have absolutely no idea what is going on and the show does an ultimately poor job of explaining things. Also many of the characters are extremely unlikeable and or/annoying. This is one of my favourite shows, don't get me wrong, but if anything, I'm (pleasantly) astounded that it hasn't been cancelled already (especially given the enormous production cost). Here's to hoping it will beat the odds and continue with a long, successful run!

Tran you can use regular map of the solar system. The problem is, things in space swing around, so a belt station could be super close to earth, or could be really far, while mars is close, and so on.

Right, but we're still missing key details about where certain characters/ships/fleets are. For example, where was the Nauvoo this episode when Drummer recovered it? Where was the "battlefield debris en route to Io"? Close to the Jupiter Fleet? Where were the 5 Martian first strike platforms from last episode? I mention the latter 2 locations because Nahid got them mixed up at one point. It might be impractical to include these details directly in frame but I feel like it'd make the show universe even more immersive.

One thing to keep in mind is that distance in space doesn't really work the same way the distance on Earth does. Because it's all about orbital velocity and how much energy it takes to change your orbit to match up with something.

Love the new house. I agree that a cross over from one book to the next might very well happen in this season as well. From then on the Expanse will truly live up to its name. You guys do a great job and have great balance and respect for each others opinions. Nice to hear. Finally, space shots like the recovery of the Nauvoo are just brilliant.

I really love how much they're deviating from the books. It makes the show more fun to watch as someone who's read all of them knowing the writers aren't afraid to mix things up and add completely new twists. In this episode they brought in something all the way from the most recent book. It's cool not knowing exactly where things are going. I'm sure the most major story beats will stay the same, but the way they get there is anyone's guess. The show is really firing on all cylinders. The ratings have been up the last two episodes. Let's hope that trend continues!

The battlefield debris was the aftermath of an engagement between the UN Navy and the Martian Navy in orbit around Jupiter (near Ganymede).

They said what sort of ship they salvaged, it was a small gunship that got taken out so fast it didn't even deploy its PDCs, from the scenes where they're attached it looks like it was about Roci-sized.

If you remember, the highest effectiveness that Errenwright could offer for taking out the missile platforms was 82%, which means that even if the Sec-Gen had fired immediately, they were likely to only hit four of the five missile platforms, so at least one missile platform was GOING to get a shot off, which is what happened.

idk if you still want to talk, but the most disappointing change to me was Avasarala accepting Mao's offer. I always thought they didn't give a very good reason in the show. In the books Avasarala is politically outmaneuvered by Errinwright in a really smart way - she can either stay on Earth and be powerless, or go to Mao and be in a weaker position, but still have some power. It's a lot more complicated, but in a really cool way. I can explain it a little more if you like.

See, in the books Errinwright retires after it's discovered he's working with Mao. Peacefully. No fuss. NONE of what we see happen with him happens in the books. But I don't mind this either. This is the path not taken... and the fact is that most of the rest of what we see does happen... to some extent... in the books. Looking forward to seeing what is to come, and what they do with certain other moments.... There are seven books, and by the time Season 5 rolls around (if there are 5 seasons) there will be nine books, and that's the full series. Because unlike a certain other author with two letters as his middle name, James S.A. Corey are (because it's two people) producing one book per year, reliably. And the show is the best thing on TV.

I think its reversed, actually. Remember, Mao's the one directing these projects and negotiating between the governments. If his interest was purely scientific, then he wouldn't be trying to sell the product of his research.

Mao is prepared to shut down the projects rather than further injury to the children by turning them into weapons. It is Strickland that goes ahead with the work on Kota which shows Mao that there is more to learn, and therefore the weapons program proceeds. Strickland is also the one who released the proto-hybrid on the UN and Martian forces and recorded it as a sales tool.

@@LeeCarlson Strickland seems to have undergone the same empathy-erasing procedure as the rest of the Protogen scientists, which Mao himself apparently did not undergo (all of his sociopathy is uniquely his own). This could explain why Strickland doesn't seem to care about the kids - he is literally incapable of seeing any life other than his own as valuable. Mao still has the capability for empathy, though he may choose to set it aside. As for the weapons test, Strickland may have released it, but it was my impression that he was following orders. Remember, its not like Strickland is acting on his own here. He works FOR Protogen and for Mao. If he was a salesman, he wouldn't be overseeing research projects on an isolated moon, he would be filming sales pitches and meeting with world leaders. That's what Mao is doing. The only reason Mao is on Io is because Avasarala drove him there by freezing his assets and hunting down his family members. He's trying to avoid getting arrested and brought in for questioning, so he's hiding on his secret research station.
