From the shows wiki: For Season 4, Arjun was recast and is now portrayed by Michael Benyaer. Also he is now called Arjun Avasarala. Due to the announced cancellation after Season 3, the original actor, Brian George, became unavailable having accepted other roles that conflicted with appearing on The Expanse.

Avasarala doesn't wear flowing clothes when she's going to be in Zero-G. It would just be awkward and inconvenient. Same for hair-styles.

3:06 "What is Miller?" *Anna* In Season 3, Miller said that "when the protomolocule presses a few thousand buttons, there's Joe Miller just the same guy you knew". Everything and everybody the protomolocule consumes, turns into energy and floats around the network. There's protomolocule in all the ring gates, to create the 1300 world and ring space. With the overpopulation in the entire Solar System, i'd open it to all. Just like the Oklahoma land rush, and others. First ship through, calls it for that faction. I don't think the combined fleets could claim all 1300 systems in one year. Then you'd have the greatest galactic expansion in human history.

Marco Inaros. Not Marcos. And while the artifacts on Illus may have been constructed by the protomolecule builders that does not mean that they are protomolecule. For me, the best way to think of the protomolecule is as programmable nano-swarms that are programmed with a specific task, and do what is necessary to complete that task and then become inert.

Great reaction! Yes it was a very special moment when Naomi first stepped onto a planet. But her body is having a difficult time! Did you notice that Amos calls Murtry's name incorrectly. Marty, Morty and so on! 😂 definitely on purpose! And Amos finding some action on a new planet! 😎 Bobbie as stumbled into something! Avasarala's husband was recast because the original guy is a very busy actor. Nancy Goa resigned...hmmm Drummer and Ashford dealing with pirates with the inners being ass holes! Drummer mentioned that she had a hard time believing Marco got his hooks into Naomi..... is he the baby daddy? Holden being used as a tool by proto Miller! Looking forward to the next one!

In the scene with the drug people, we get to see the level of competent violence that Bobbie is capable of, which was only hinted at when the rescued Martian sailors attempted to take over the Roci in Season Three.

Each season tries to incorporate a storyline from one of the novellas. S1 adapts "The Butcher of Anderson Station" with the flashbacks to Anderson Station and Fred Johnson's part in it. S2 incorporates "The Drive" about Solomon Epstein and the Epstein Drive. The storyline about Bobbie and her nephew in this season is adapted from the "Gods of Risk" novella.

During the events of last season, when they entered the Sol-Ring The Investigator (Miller) tells Holden that he is a "non-local quantum hologram being generated in the microtubules of his (Holden's) brain" to provide an interface for him (The Investigator) which is an application "that finds things."

Who Bobbie saw as she went to work (just before she got arrested) was that same blonde girl we were introduced earlier, walking right across the screen. That's why Bobbie later connected her to the dead customs agent. Martians are petty. I told you that. Amos also said so. When Bobbie tried to introduce herself to that Martian officer, captioning revealed he said to the other, "She's the one who got our squad on Ganymede killed." So, Mars blamed the Ganymede incident all on Bobbie. They recast Arjun because the original actor was unavailable. That was one of the lessons they learned to revise the books to keep fan-favorite actors on contract. I never cottoned to the new actor...not his fault, but he isn't right for the role. Proto-Miller isn't proving to be a very reliable ally. But when he talks about "flipping switches," that sounds like he doesn't know exactly what he's doing.

The casting dept really dropped the ball on Arjun, imo. I don't know if it was a last minute thing, or availability, or what, but I'm surprised they couldn't find an actor in Canada or US who shared a resemblance to the original. I saw a dead ringer in another show not too long ago.
@kirkdarling4120
@kirkdarling4120 Жыл бұрын
For me, not so much physical resemblance as better fitting the role as Brian George had fleshed it out. Arjun should be a gentle man taking a full back seat to Avasarala. The new actor, Michael Benyaer, even visually comes across as much more forceful and powerful. He's doing his best, but he really can't portray the character in the same gentle and self-effacing way Brian George did (and, interestingly, Brian George has played villains, so he was doing some good acting). Fun facts: Michael Benyaer plays a similarly meek husband to a similarly powerful woman in an episode of this past season's Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, and that "similarly powerful woman" is the actress who plays Avasarala's daughter in The Expanse.

RCE is the abbreviation for Royal Charter Energy a company chartered by the UN and Mars to explore/exploit the planet they call New Terra. It is indicative of how "Inners" feel about Belters that RCE simply ignores the claim made by the people who have already settled on Illus.
@djin81
@djin81 Жыл бұрын
Yes, this book (the 4th, Cibola Burn) is a classic western setup as you say. The random settlers who just made their own way there without telling anyone vs the company who did it by the book and show up with a charter saying they own the place.
@kirkdarling4120
@kirkdarling4120 Жыл бұрын
The first problem is, like the US West, where did the right to lay claim to the land come from in the first place? As Dawes said, "Earthers look to the stars and say: 'Mine!'" Yes, RCE did it by the book that the UN wrote for their benefit. That's how colonizers always do it, like the East India Company operating in India "by the book" that England wrote at its bidding.
@djin81
@djin81 Жыл бұрын
 @kirkdarling4120 For sure. The "Royal" in the name and casting an English actor are obviously invoking those ideas. Many modern countries and borders can be traced back to companies listed on London Exchanges. British India (India, Pakistan and Bangladesh) being answerable to the board of directors and shareholders of a corporation is one of the craziest stories in history.

Don't think the spacesuits Holden & Crew own function like Bobbie's Combat Armor (capable of propelled movement in space and in gravity via the thrusters on her boots and other places). I think their spacesuits are more traditional with thrusters on the back made to maneuver in space only.

I can’t recall if people went over this in comments from previous episodes, but the reason all the governments involved (Earth, Mars, and the Belt … although not sure the belt is organized enough to be called a government) agreed to restrict access to the new worlds is because everyone has varying amounts of fear of a new Eros type incident (and they also know about Holdens vision and the full versions of what happened in the ring space in the previous season). Parts of the populations of each group are trying to force their way through … either by running the blockade, or by fighting their leaders for the right to go … each for their own reason. Earthers have no opportunities due to overpopulation, young Martians see no direct benefit from the terraforming project that they will never see done, and Belters see a way out from under … well, everything. So the group that got through to Illus are justified (they deserve a chance at the lives they lost on Ganymede), and not justified (they might be risking the destruction of the human race). The RCE is given a charter, yes to eventually mine (incentive to spend the money on the mission), but first to study the planet and whatever potential risks in holds in a more organized manner. Murtry is a dink, and a bigot, but is responsible for the security of the RCE’s legitimate mission in a situation requiring semi-autonomy … and we just found out that some of his suspicion and hatred of the Belter colonists is justified … sooooo … yeah. You can recognize that he is not handling the situation as the situation should be handled … but I’ve met people like him and you can talk to them till you are blue in the face and not shift their viewpoint one inch. … oh, and on another note - I don’t believe we have seen suits that can fly on planet … unless it’s the marines power armor … so, yeah, Holden needs to climb the rope. Also, the non Illus story lines seem disparate, but keep them in mind. ... God! This show and the Last of Us? ... me = happy camper. 😋
@kirkdarling4120
@kirkdarling4120 Жыл бұрын
I think giving a mining charter to RCE is horse manure, given that the only reason there _are_ Ganymede refugees is because of UN/Mars shenanigans. Both Earth and Mars owe their continued existence to the Belt...Belters saved them both from destroying themselves. The least Earth and Mars could have done was to give the Ganymede refugees at least half of Illus. But, no, Earth and Mars chartered RCE to land on the Belters' launch pad, jump the claim the Belters had already proven, and kick the Belters off to be refugees again.

Miller is like an AI driven search function used by the mainframe that controls the ring seeking answers. You're really obsessed with the protomolecule. It's like everything a human creates you'd then refer to it as being human. Human makes a car and the car is human.

Marco is the father of Naomi's child. A real piece of work, and the face of the fourth player in this series (much more in the un-filmed books). Btw, Naomi staying with the Roci -- because it's landed, she's still under local gravity. Less likely to exert herself, sure. But not "safe". The girl is the deputy dick-swinger. As for her boss, he has a legitimate reason to be there, and 23 murders to avenge. So he's not polite.

This, in my opinion, is the weakest season. It has some great parts in it but overall not the best the Expanse has to offer. And one thing that always irritated me about this season was how they turned Avasarala it's a swear-monkey dropping F bombs all the time and it feels forced and out of character (I know she swears a lot in the books) from the previous seasons. Not a bad season, but far from the best.

I mean, in the books she never took up such a public role. She very much was the backroom politician. She ran things, but no one outside of the higher ups really knew who she was. It is arguably out of character for her this season, but I get why they changed things for the show. The swearing I think is because they were finally allowed to go as hard as she did in the books.

I saw Gran Turismo last week and it was wonderful. I would say it's the best film I have seen in the last five to eight years. Things to realize: it is a true story but it is fictionalized in a typical Hollywood Manor. So some characters are combined, the villains are fictional, and some events are portrayed in a different sequence or compressed compared to real life. I give the movie a 9.5 out of 10. Entertainment cuts down on cursing a lot "for the children". I've been watching bloopers ("breakdowns") from the 1930s and 1940s. When they missed a cue or forgot a line, they said god damnit and other words just the same as today (men and women). One different word was "nuts" . So that phrase did exist years before it's famous use at the Battle of the Bulge.
