One of the great qualities of this series is the acting. According to T&TG, the crew often spent Sundays rehearsing and going over it. It shows. Nobody is dialing it in. They (cast) had an incredible coherence and "played the roles".

Waaaaay back in the beginning we mentioned (I think) how well-written the show is, how things are laid out early, and how much the show really works well on rewatch. This is an example. This episode, season 5, episode 3, the first seeds of it were laid in in the VERY first episode, when Avasarala talked about fearing people who throw rocks. And, in fact, the Belter who was caught trying to smuggle stealth composites. That's... AMAZING writing. A plotline took the show basically being canceled and resurrected and so on before maturing. And it's been a backburner plot the WHOLE TIME. Man.

The writing, acting, music, keeping the thread from beginning to the very end, the strong use of minor characters, the nuances to the characters, the amount of unexpected turns the show takes, how they allowed the events of episode 4 to succeed where most shows would save the day, etc. etc. etc. takes this show to another level that none have matched for me!

The Expanse is one of those shows you just want to share with anyone you meet who is into films / shows of any genre. It is so well written and has such amazing Actors ALL the way through - it is just fun to watch others discover it. Very cool that you're enjoying watching other reactors experience the show for the first time - lots of good recommendations in here - Normies, Blind Wave, Scriptonite (thought she was going to need therapy after a few of those episodes) - 3 of my current favorites - in addition to our funnylilgalreacts❤ - are: Bobby Chill, as of today he's on Season 3 ep 9 - Neil Talks, on Season 3 Ep 4 & LM Reactions - just finished up season 6. All 3 of these channels have excellent reactors who pay attention to the story, pick up on the details, & offer outstanding commentary & have great editing also. Looking forward to the next one as always! 🚀

Yeah, actually Bobbie was correct The Razorback was her salvage and her ship. She's the one who literally flew it away from Jules Pierre Mao's exploding ship. (with Avasarala in tow). I would imagine she left it with the Roci crew while she re-enlisted with the MCRN since, as she said, she's not a pilot (and Alex, whom she probably left it with is) but by the rules of (space) Nautical propriety-ship, she's has claim to it until or unless she relinquishes it to someone else.

So Ashford’s death was devastating to me, mostly because I love drummer . . . my favorite character . . . and Ashford was the perfect buddy for her character. Ashford was a competitor to her, a sage advisor, often patronizing, and a foil to her occasional fury-based choices. They both had the welfare of Belters at heart, but expressed the same devotion to the Belt in different and often complementary ways. They grew to trust one another through pain, blood, sarcasm, and mutual, sometime grudging, respect. Drummer reaction to Ashford’s noble death was satisfying in its brooding anger, followed by vulnerable expression of sorrow. If had the choice to ship out on the Rocinate with Holden and crew or a Belter ship with Drummer . . . I’d pick drummer hands down. However, I believe she’d think I’d be much more suited to hanging with Holden and Alex. I guess I have an Inner exterior with a Belter heart . . . maybe like Fred Johnson. So I loved your Star Trek 6 reference to the 2 corpses falling out of the container and love your show in general. The only thing that really bothers me is that as much as I’ve scanned and searched, I can’t find Max Rebo on the poster behind you and it’s driving me crazy. 😆

@@MultiSweeney1 It's also worth mentioning that location of impact would play a huge part in potential damage. Can I just say, I absolutely LOVE the way Avasarala says "I don't give a fuck!" XD I LOVED your mention of Star Trek VI so much!!!! I had that EXACT same thought the first time I watched this episode!!! XD Also, you haven't said much about Drummer's poly-am-fam! They're in like an 8-way communal marriage and they're a crew of two(actually, now three) badass pirate-hunting ships! They're a pretty unique bunch! I'd like to know more of your opinions about them so far! The whole story of Naomi and Filip is very tough for me to watch. My mother didn't abandon me when I was a baby, but she did abandon me when I was a teen. And I didn't talk to her for over ten years. And one day, she just showed up, and wanted to be a part of my life again. So even though Filip has been gaslit and manipulated by his abusive father into hating Naomi, I know how he's feeling, and that's a very hard thing to get over. In case you're wondering, I am repairing my relationship with my mother, and I almost like having her around again! But it's baby steps. Also, get ready, because Naomi is about to endure possibly the worst nightmare of her entire life. Also, remember at the start of this episode, where you said you were waiting for the other shoe to drop? The next Eros, the next Ganymede, the next Ring? Well here it is! A fucking rock has hit Earth! And remember: there are still a bunch more rocks on the way. Marco Inaros is now, officially, a genocidal mass-murderer. And by extension, so is Filip.

Amazon dropped the first three episodes at once. Knowing how they love their cliffhangers, I figured the first rock would hit as the third episode cliffhanger. I think even if Avasarala had won the election, she still would have been interested in Bobbie's call and very much interested in Ashford's recording. To show you the setting up of clues and deep planning that the writers had, think back to the first two episodes of season 1. The belter that Christian had up on the hooks that had been caught transporting stealth tech. According to what Ty Franck confirmed, that belter had been working for Marco.

bullshit, story of Marco Inaros doesn't make any sense without Rings. Also Amun-Ra class STEALTH frigattes used by Protogen... And Phillip stealing stealth composites at the beginning of the book 5... I find it pretty hard to believe that the guy who co-wrote the book would ignore this.

@@elkapro6534 I don't know why you call "bullshit", when this is coming from a co-writer of both the books and the show. To your points. I'm not sure what you mean Marco doesn't make sense without the rings. It's clearly stated that he used Naomi's code to blow up a ship in the Luna docks, which took place long before the rings and before the starting point of the story, so we know that he had been planning and working at striking at Earth. The belter on the hooks in S1E1 was foreshadowing Marco. That and the scene of Christian on the roof with her grandson saying "I don't like people who throw rocks". The Stealth frigates? What about them? If you look back at S1E 1&2 there is never a connection made between them and the belter. All that is stated was that he had restricted stealth components. Yes, Phillip steals those at the start of book 5. In the show he does this at the end of season 4, he's in the elevator taunting Bobby as the door closes and as the bomb starts beeping. Again I'm not sure what your point here is? The books and the show are not exactly the same. eg, Christian is introduced in book 2, but in the show S1E1.

@@scottlescard6154 Well, Marco Inaros was just a pawn in Duarte's plan, which WOULD NEVER HAPPEN without discovery of Laconian orbital shipyards. It's your problem you can't connect obvious dots and (not very) subtle hints. Point is, that those stealth materials in ep1 don't make any sense to be for Marco for reason no1 above I simply don't believe Ty would make such claim when it contradicts his own story in a way that doesn't make sense. Post proof or stop misleading people.

@elkapro6534 I don't know why you have such a problem with this and why you have to be rude. I am going off of what Ty Franck said on the podcast Ty & That Guy. In the podcast were he and Wes Chatham are discussing S1E1, Wes asks if the belter that Christian had on the hooks was Marco's man, Ty says yes. This is what is called foreshadowing. This is telling us that Marco had been trying to aquire stealth tech for some time, but it took the opening of the rings and Duarte for him to get it. I don't know why you can't connect the dots that Marco had longer ranging plans that went back before the opening of the show and before we meet him. If you have a problem with this contract Ty Franck and ask him.

The rock that broke up near the Sun was MEANT to break up near the Sun. It wasn't a miss or a misfire. As in, Marco intentionally threw it on a trajectory that would see it break apart thanks to the Sun's gravitational pressure forces. The whole point was that it would be picked up by that observation station, which would log it, and then they would destroy the station and make it look like it got destroyed by the debris from the rock, - all as a cover to steal the observation station's data core that would have recordings and trajectories of the other rocks and so as not to tip of the Earthers.

I left a comment on you're video for Season 2 Episode 3, stating that all but two of my favorite characters had been introduced by that point. One, Ill leave redacted (they have been introduced, but I don't want to spoil whether they show up again). The other was Ashford. I'm so, so happy that I can see how much you came to love that character! We all hated him in the ring space, and we all thought he was power-hungry and trying to take power from Drummer. Nope - power wasn't his goal, and he thought HE was the one in the right in trying to protect the solar system from the offensive power of the ring station. His character took a while to be revealed, but it was worth it, and his death was one of the saddest moments of the show, while also being badass as hell! I'm so happy you fell in love with this roguish character the same way I did! I absolutely love all your reactions, but your Expanse ones are the ones that make me drop everything and give it a watch! Cheers!

It's hard to remember, but I assume the ending means that Drummer sent Ashford's audio file to Fred Johnson, and then Johnson sent the audio file to Avasarala, which suggests that they both realized that Inaros was targeting Earth. Possibly, this will become more clear next episode.

I never watched reactions. To be honest, I always thought it would be a very weird thing to watch other people watch something. Until one day when I stumled over a Kat & Sonny reaction of The Expanse. Well, next I binge-watched all their reactions up to the point they were up-to-date, lol. I still don't watch any other reactions then to The Expanse. This is the only show I feel interested to rewatch with other people again and again and again. Even though I have watched the whole show over a dozen of times by myself already, not counting reactions I've seen. I never seem to get tired of this show. At the moment, I watch you, Neil Talks, and Bobby Chill. Also Nerdly Nightly and Mega Reacts, who just started the show. You are by far the most attentive reactor of all I have watched, followed probably by Neil Talks. So far I have watched Kat&Sonny, Nikki&Steven, LM Reactions, Jones Reactions, Carly Nicole, Agent X, AngusSees (last 3 unfortunately suddenly stopped and disappeared). A few others I have watched only some episodes, like Blind Wave which are not really my cup of tea. I also stopped watching some reactors because they were just unable to keep attention and/or missed half the stuff because of always talking over dialogues. I just learned about a few more reactors in the comments here that I wasn't aware of (KZbin search is sooo terribly bad!) so I will check them out.

When Ashford showed up, he was true in his heart that the Belt's time was now and that they needed to change their ways. We just didn't know it at that point because he worked for Dawes and brought Diogo back. But his talks with Naomi and when he was facing Death with Drummer, did we find out he was really a good guy despite being a former pirate. He wanted something better for the next generation of Belters. I was sad when Marco spaced him. Xander doing a great job as always! No one on Tycho was developing anything with the PM. Dawes has Cortazar and I'm sure they're just letting him do research, but Fred actually had the PM till now... Finish the joke!!!! The DeWalt always makes me think of power tools. You may not have noticed but Syn and Karal were with Filip on that station in the first episode and killed those scientists. Babbage knows how to use her feminine wiles and Alex is all too happy to do so... and while I think she was hesitant on telling Alex the name of the ship she was going on, she also probably knew that Alex would be dead later. Great Star Trek reference! The dude is wrong that Avasarala would have ignored anyone throwing rocks at Earth. That's been her greatest fear since the start. Great reaction as always.

The rock attack was really hard to watch, and since the books were even more descriptive of it, it was even harder to read. I was in my mid 20s when 9/11 happened and the rock attack took me right back to that day. Even though Bull is quite abrasive, he was right about one thing when he said that being an underdog doesn’t automatically make you the good guy. Marco and Filip are not good guys. Speaking of Bull, having a character with that name is a homage to the books. The books also have a character named Bull, but he appears much earlier and is one of the characters that the show version of Drummer is based off of. There is also a character on the Dewalt named “Michio” whose name comes from Michio Pa from the books, another component of Drummer. So Cara Gee is really playing three or four characters from the books. Finally… Naomi’s ship is called the “Chetzemoka” which comes from the name of a prominent Native American from the 1800s. I always thought that the name sounded like some sort of coffee, like something you’d order at Starbuck’s with an extra shot of espresso.

Tough episode all around. Great, but tough on everyone. Seems weird to say maybe, but Filip may had it worst; he just became a mass-murderer in his teens. And by mass-murder I mean _millions_ of people dead. And that was one rock. But it’s also hard watching Drummer cry. But I’m happy for her that she has the whole crew-as-polycule for support. And I think that idea is fascinating. Hard to know if that particular piece of sci-fi would work in real life, but it’s a cool take on how to handle crew dynamics. Much ink has been spilled by NASA psychologists to work out how to handle people hooking up on long voyages; don’t know how many papers start with “what if everyone just go at it?” instead of trying to avoid it. A bit surprised you gave Babbage the benefit of even a second of doubt, since we saw in the last episode that she was explicitly on an intel-gathering mission from Sauveterre. Just funny that you went into it “innocently” when it was more set up as two people with clear ulterior motives trying to play each other (with Alex being the one we all expect to be the worse one at it). But yeah, her coming on to him was, uh, inelegant too. I will the actor credit for that brief pause and deadpan delivery of “the Barkeith”. It’s perfectly suspicious.

On the subject of Bull, he's a slightly different character to that in the books. I don't think this is giving anything away, but the way they've mashed a few characters together, Bull isn't actually in book 5, in fact he dies on the Behemoth from his injury's incurred in the slowzone incident. He was the one that got crushed in the book. Drummer basically played his role in season 3 and of course survived the injury's.

This was great episode for Thomas Jane to direct too. More character and personal moments. Something he as an actor can really add to as a director. Not that he couldn't know how to direct anything else, but he has the perspective to shine directing these. And Cara Gee was fantastic this episode. You are too hard on Monica, she's pushy but she has had a good heart and right motivation for her pushiness. Spin off series I want to see is Ashford in his pirate days.

"I'm waiting for that moment to really hit me." Be careful what you wish for. Amos is trying to be good. He's had Holden and Naomi as examples, so this is a good test of his retention and comprehension. I mentioned this before, but the current record holding nuke detonation IRL was 50 megatons and that was at half strength. Due to lowering tensions and changing doctrines, current max yield on a deployed US nuke is 1.2 megatons. Yet again, H9olden is hearing echoes of his past self. Old friends! Friends who flanked her son during his hit squad mission to kill a bunch of unarmed scientists. Aren't they so sweet? Liquidating assets for hire can be a prudent move. CAN be. "Filip's an asshole." He certainly is. Still, when you consider who's been raising him, it is not a surprise. Key communiques are always at least 1 minute late. Just some happy old man feeding the fish. He and many other innocent people going about their lives. Now blood on Marco's hands. Blood he is glad for. Rock 1 of 9 has hit.
