At the negotiating table, Avasarala didn't even have to name the person with the qualities she was describing, that everyone in the room except himself were thinking "yeah that's Holden alright"; and for him to quit and put Drummer in charge during the inauguration... Classic Holden. Great characters and amazing interpretations by all actors. Sad to see the show end, but it was a phenomenal ride; thank you.

When they shook hands, a quote from way back the timeline popped up in my mind; "You know what I love about Mars? They still dream. We gave up." And Avasarala realized that Holden was the one who - despite all that had happened - still dreamed about a better future for all of humanity.

Announce the sequel series and/or movie already!!! You guys stuck the landing this season by the way, this show will be the best show I've ever seen in my life up to this point, hoping for more!
@ross-carlson
@ross-carlson 2 жыл бұрын
And by "stuck the landing" you mean "they started and ignored several plot threads and characters, didn't wrap up the 'entities", what they wanted, what the "spaceship" was, what the guy was going to do with it, what the "dogs" were, why they showed us that entire sub-plot, what happened to the kid that came back to life, etc. etc. Loved the show up to Season 6 where they lost it - they knew they had 6 episodes and rather than wrapping things up they introduced new characters and plots they just left hanging - sorry but that is in NO WAY "sticking the landing". Sure there was some really fun action in the finale but the whole season, especially the finale was rushed AF. Remember the show is OVER and it's highly HIGHLY likely this is the last we'll see of it all on the screen - how many low viewer, niche, hard core sci-fi shows do you know that were cancelled but then got a movie? Maaaaybe Firefly/Serenity but that was MUCH bigger than this (even though it sucked hard). I really want more too - but we didn't get that, we got a very unsatisfying ending to an otherwise fantastic show.
@rafaelsantosx
@rafaelsantosx 2 жыл бұрын
@@ross-carlson They coudn't wrap up the protomolecule and the entities plot, because there is a 30 year time jump in the Laconian plot. So they wrapped up the main conflict that starts the series, the war against Earth, Mars and the Belter factions. So to not completely ignore the protomolecule existence, they left some seeds planted with an opening ending. From now on, they'll have 30 more or less years of peace.

@@ross-carlson I'm thinking they stuck the landing for the book and this season. I'm fully convinced we are going to see more from this property and they set it up that way. We should know in a few weeks if that is the case. But also in a general sense that they had another solid season as a show, that they maintained the quality throughout regardless of closing all the arcs. I'm not bummed in the same way as other shows ended, if this truly was the end, maybe because I read the books and already know the rest of the story. @matfax
@matfax 2 жыл бұрын
Her acting seemed to be a bit over-expressive. When I compare it with my other favorite sci-fi show BSG, Trisha Helfer was quite the opposite. Her strength was subtle acting. This is also Steven's strength and Wes' strength. But I think Dominique provides the right contrast to their subtle acting. It fits into the character's background story and deep trauma that she overshadows this way, and tries to live a second life.
@HisameArtwork
@HisameArtwork 2 жыл бұрын
@@matfax yeah she was good choice , I agree. hope we get the last books adapted in a few years. as for what you say about "over expressive" ... I don't think that, I think we're just used to brit acting to much and we love that over american/korean/spanish/indian acting school training. When Clare For, Richard Madden or Colin Firth scream and cry we're usually like "omfg what a great actor"... I dunno if I ever heard anglo-phones say that about a spanish or indian style trained actor. Shohreh Aghdashloo like Ben Kingsley come to mind, but they are iranian trained and like french and danish style actors they are hidden gems. I find it funny that youtube critics/complainers said she wasn't like the book character...which is so silly since the writers are the same for both show and books.
@matfax
@matfax 2 жыл бұрын
@@HisameArtwork Well, Indian and Mediterranean cultures are different, I know. So it's appropriate to adjust the acting to it. But this also applies to The Expanse. Naomi is a true Belter. When I think of Belters, Drummer is my best example. They have to conserve energy in space. Mimics lose their meaning in space and in the future in general. I remember an episode of T&TG that mentioned something like that along the lines about why they talk how they talk.

OMFG YES!!! I felt it from the moment she proposed the plan to take out marcos and the Paela, Dominique sold Naomi's moment of realization that she was about to kill her son she'd been longing to mother and be with!! Then they quickly flip to her as a mom and a Filip as a toddler, maybe that hits a different heart string because of parenthood and the sense of desperation. 👏

The most bone chilling scream I’ve heard in cinema is hands down that by Mélissa Désormeaux-Poulin in Denis Villeneuve’s Incendies. The scene is so powerful, I feel a lump in the throat and get a quavering voice just talking or even thinking about it. But that Dominique’s scream even compares says a lot about her acting and this scene in general. In fact, her whole arc in season 5 and 6 is bonkers.

You are so right. She was irritating me with how she was treating Peaches but she made peace with that. imo battlestar galactica is like, almost good, and then misses completely. There's a lot of value in the imagination of the shows, but the cylons are defined in a way that they should just be invincible, (I realize they basically are, and somehow battlestar galactica is crewed by the best humans ever born),, but I think it should be an overall shorter story, where the cylons are somehow not actually able to do something like take over, but are able to be problematic enough to justify the "war". Perhaps they are like transformers and don't have real guns or something.

The scene at the end of the final episode with Holden and Naomi expressed the reason I think this series is so popular. Holden has done something very controversial, and he says he wonders if he did the right thing. Naomi answers: "You did. You followed your conscience in the hope that others would follow theirs. You didn’t do it for a reward, or a pat on the head. The universe never tells us if we did right or wrong. It’s more important to try and help people and know that you did. More important that someone else’s life gets better than for you to feel good about yourself. “You never know the effect you might have on someone, not really. Maybe one core thing you said haunts them forever. Maybe one moment of kindness gives them comfort or courage. Maybe you said the one thing they needed to hear. It doesn’t matter if you ever know. You just have to try.” I f***ing love this show.

In terms of how it moved the genre forward, from what we used to consider was a futuristic sci fi show, to what the next stage is and could be. Obviously, actors like Thomas Jane and David Strathairm were well known, but a lot of the cast that was assembled was incredible.

My husband and I started watching when our library made the series available in 2015. Then there were the books. Still reading. Personally I was "there" as real fan with the show when the story began with Julie Mao. The ENTIRE crew of the Roci kept me "there" all the way to the present end. Holden and Naomi has a great love story, Alex' story was complelling...Amos' story blew me away and then there was Peaches. Bobbie Draper was indeed "glorious". Avasarala was the consument leader...talented, flawed and beautiful. Dear writers: Way to respect the books!!! LOVED IT ALL! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

I want Dominique and the crew to know that Naomi's scream was cathartic to us. We needed that scream. It acknowledged all the pain. It was primal. And Holden holding her (perfect name for the character, for he _holds_ the crew - and the whole _system_ - together) Holden holding and comforting Naomi... that was also for us the audience. It was more than lovely. It was part of the catharsis for millions of women out there that made a similar choice... and the writers comforted _us_ as much as comforted Naomi Nagata. It was an embrace of her choice to sacrifice that part of her to save everyone else. I add: thank you for not letting that intense, personal wound fester into an emotional scar. Thank you for letting Filip _choose life._

@ZakhadWOW

@@bucky13 you are ignoring the pivotal point that it would take decades to master the tech they awakened on Laconia. That is the whole reason for the long gap, not just a whim. Laconia stayed locked tight until they had built up and mastered their uber ships, without which they could never have conquered Sol, let alone anyone else. No one would EVER believe they mastered that in 5 years, since it has been at least 5 years since the first Phoebe encounter and the Earthers/Martians were only finally getting around to better armor,; and nowhere near the idea of the advanced physics involved in the ship the Laconians found in the orbital platform.. That ship is why they chose THAT system, after all. Without the partially built ship to guide them , I dont know that they could have achieved what they did in a century.

I was very privileged to meet Dominique in a random encounter on the London Underground. I walked past her and thought, "Oo that looks like Naomi!" Had a look behind me and thought, "OMG I really think it's her!" Looked back again, clocking her slightly concerned face I applogised and said that she looked like this great actress on my favourite SciFi Show. The smile was instant and confirmed that this was her! She was super nice, so down to earth and stuck around talking for 10/15 minutes. This was towards the end of Season 1, and I might have been a bit of a fan boy and gushed how well she bought Naomi to life, like she had reached into my mind and plucked out my version of Naomi. Alas, despite my best efforts, she gave nothing away about future seasons.. but I am so happy we made it to 6. My real hope is that either you guys make a film or that in 15/0 years time we get these guys back together again and do the next 3 books :) Thank you for everything you all have done, cast, crew and writers for making such a great and long lasting show.

I thought Naomi summed it up well on how Holden did what he did: by being honest and earning trust. Certainly consensus and things like that came into play, but consensus isn't possible without trust, particularly trust that's earned. Even the least trusting person on Earth, at the end came to trust Holden, even when she disagreed with him. Good stuff. Hope there's a way to keep bringing the books to the screen.

... and plot armor. Alex was a cargo pilot so we rooted for him when he got the Roci out of trouble with mad skilla, he was a hidden gem, an ace pilot when given the chance. Then Holden stepped into the pilot seat and did the same thing. It kinda cheapened the pilot role. The space battles in season 6, the Roci should've be blown up. They should've made Clarissa the pilot as she was Julie's sister who was known as a great pilot, so it could more easily be explained why she was a decent pilot as well.

Fantastic finale! Already started reading Book 7 once I was done. Yes, this season was a tad rushed, but honestly they did a great job. It fits cause the entire plot of this season was all about being quick or it's over. So the show also rushing stuff kinda felt natural. To me at least. For the people who complained about how the show changed certain things from the book, yes and? You all need to realize that an adaptation should never be 1:1. It's the perfect opportunity for the creators to play around and make some changes to better fit the new format. Or maybe do something that they always wanted to in the source material, but didn't for various reasons. And for the people who keep saying that they were left hanging and unfinished. Uhm, the books are always there so what are you talking about? Be happy that anything got adapted. So it is not unfinished, you just refuse to interact with the source.

I rarely watch 'after shows', and I'm so glad I watched this. I THOUGHT I had a handle on the acting craft, but oh man, its merely a speck of dust on a drop of dew sitting on the dust covering the scope of the craft. Picking out a scene and dissecting its creation down to the editing...whoa. I think the extraordinary element of this show that transcends what I've watched over 60+ years is how that spirit was invested throughout the entire production. The writers had to create the tale, then the screenplay had to distill it into mere moments. The actors (now I understand your use of the term) be truthful in each take, the director, the editor, the score...every single element of this show had a common spirit, a bond of some sort connected everyone that enabled all of them to make the best choices on what I as a viewer reveled in. Absolutely fantastic work. Congratulations to you all.
