The Expanse is an American science fiction television series developed by Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby for the Syfy network, and is based on the series of novels of the same name by James S. A. Corey. The series is set in a future where humanity has colonized the Solar System. It follows a disparate band of protagonists-United Nations Security Council member Chrisjen Avasarala (Shohreh Aghdashloo), police detective Josephus Miller (Thomas Jane), ship's officer James Holden (Steven Strait) and his crew-as they unwittingly unravel and place themselves at the center of a conspiracy that threatens the system's fragile state of cold war, while dealing with existential crises brought forth by newly discovered alien technology.
The Expanse has received a positive critical response, with particular praise for its visuals, character development and political narrative. It received a Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation and three Saturn Award nominations for Best Science Fiction Television Series. Syfy cancelled the series after three seasons. Amazon later acquired the series, producing three more seasons, with the sixth and final season premiering on December 10, 2021.

All of the characters in The Expanse have many qualities relatable to the common person. That's why we love them.

I am not sure if I did see this promo. Thanks. I think the main reason they chosen those 3 characters is that they were hanging on the books. Holden and Miller are only two POV characters from book 1 (Julie in prologue and Fred in epilogue). In book 2 POV characters are Holden, Avasarala, Bobbie and Prax (Mei in prologue and Avasarala in epilogue). Since they brought Avasarala earlier, she was obvious third choice. And if we think about season as whole: those 3 main storylines revolve around them - where Holden's and Millers merge (like in book 1). Yes, the rest of Roci's crew is more exposed in the show - since in the book 1 we see them mostly trough Holden's eyes. Avasarala's story is a mostly setting up what is to come and is considered by some to be weaker in this season, but IMO just having Shoreh on the show adds so much. Bobbie is also brought earlier. That's why her story really kicks at Paradigm shift. But IMO it's also good that they had time to show us her mindspace before Ganymede.

The choice of characters makes sense. They are each effectively the lead character in the three different parallel plot threads in season one. Only three also makes sense as it is a trailer. You can't try to hook the uninitiated with swathes of detail and 5 to 10 different characters; it just wouldn't work. It makes me want to go back and watch S1 again. I feel like some of the lines here are alternate takes to what made the final cut, and I don't just mean the Avasarala cut. Thanks for sharing!

Just these 3 characters makes sense going into season 1. Gives the viewers a chance to discover the others themselves. Meaning: you have to watch everything closely....

Just wanted to thank you for the (good) seasons of The Expanse. belongs in my top 5 of favorite sci-fi shows along with stargate sg1 and BSG

So funny of so many people (e.g. KZbin reactors) hate Miller initially and fluidly sometimes without noticing go complete 180° on him later and love him.
