The authors of the books, Ty Franck and Daniel Abraham, are also writers of the series, so they know their story, they know their characters, and they can make be best changes as necessary to fit the television medium without losing the story. They have also said that they consider the series a final draft of the story, so they've made some changes they believe improve it. The data broker's "space tinder" tagline was, "I'll be your sherpa." We later learned that "sherpa" was underworld slang for "data broker." Something learned about Holden: He's read "Don Quixote," because he knew about Rocinante. Something learned about Amos. He said that he always backs Naomi because she "always does the right thing." Amos means "right" as in "good, moral." Remember he said he didn't know whether he should kill Holden, except Naomi wouldn't like it. Pausing to talk is good, because otherwise you'd talk through important information.

The Expanse is widely known to be possibly the best sci-fi show ever. Hell, Jeff Bezos had a hand in saving it from cancelation. But alas, there are many people who don't yet know the show.

Ok, so now I have listened to you reacting together, I definitely enjoy that more! All it took was trying it out for us, you two really work well off of each other and your discussions are actually really good. I love Ryan's jokes and I appreciate Nate's insights into scene development and details he notices. Keep doing them together! I appreciate that you pause as well to discuss points of question because that eliminates most of the talking over scenes. I am Discord naive so I keep missing the full reactions but these are great as well! I feel like I am falling in love with the show all over again which is pretty hard to believe after so many reactors.

I remember early on it was fairly common to see comments trash-talking the acting on the Expanse. I never saw it; I'm on the same boat as y'all. I get completely absorbed into the world so they have to be doing something right. Glad you guys are enjoying it, it's great to see!

It's perfectly fine to look up real life objects in space. There won't be any spoilers if you just look up the Wikipedia site. Just stay away from ships and space stations from the show.

I always got the impression that Miller believed that the Havelock’s “girlfriend” either set him up to get shot like that or was somehow involved with those who did. The “police” on Ceres are actually sort of like Pinkerton agents; they work for a private security firm called “Star Helix.” This type of policing by private firms is common in the belt, which is why Miller said at one point,” There’s no law on Ceres, just cops.”

Yeah, that's what Miller was saying. He asked her how much she was paid to lure Havelock down to the seedy area.

The book series consists of 9 books written under the pen name of James S.A. Corey. The actual writers are a team made up of Ty Frank (who used to work for George R.R. Martin of "A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones" fame), and Daniel Abraham. They adapted the first 6 books for television (season 6 is about to end next week) with Ty Frank actually being in the writing room during production and Daniel Abraham collaborating with the TV series writers remotely. The way the books are structured ending production of the TV series at book 6 did present a logical conclusion for many of the storylines as there is a 30-year gap in the story timeline between books 6 and 7. Book 9, the final book, was released just over a month ago (November 30) so the story has been completely developed unlike what happened with Game of Thrones.

I like this format more. And whatever people say, I am sure, for two of you it's more fun do this. If there is need to have individual reactions, than it would be easier to you to make two separate videos. So, this is the right thing. FYI, Pluto is also classified as dwarf planet. Actually, Ceres is one of the reasons they demoted Pluto to it. I cannot remember which one is bigger, but they are similar in size. About Jay Hernandez, this started 2 years before Magnum P.I. I cannot tell more about his role, because it would be spoiler. About confusion, you are supposed to be. It's OK. Some dialogs are pretty similar to the books, some are changed. Some characters and places are changed. But that's not the point. Overall story is still the same. Btw, books were written as POV chapters. In book one (of which is about 2/3 covered in season 1) there are only 2 POV characters: Holden and Miller. Avasarala has been borrowed from book 2. Fred's backstory is from novella "The Butcher Of The Anderson Station", which title of this episode refers to. There are some other novellas also included along the way. About reading the book: Wait until season 2 episode 5. This is where it's story ends. Btw, Rocinante is obviously reference to Don Quixote by Cervantes. Also, the title of first episode - Dulcinea (Don Quixote's muse); and the title of the next episode - Windmills (Don Quixote fights them). Edit: Alex' proposition "Screaming Firehawk" is adopted by fandom, and we call ourselves "Screaming Firehawks", because: why not? 😁

"New ship...who 'dis?" "Holden lives long enough to grow a beard!" Its hard to show time passing in a TV show format, whereas in the books its easy to mention months have passed. The ships moving at around 1G acceleration take weeks or months to move between these points, the TV show version uses several things to show time passing: beard growth, hair style changes, new tattoos appearing, and later, insertion of cut scenes and montages. "Everything is connected to everything!" No spoilers, but, there are characters who say ONE SENTENCE in S1 E1 that comes back to importance 2 or 3 whole SEASONS later! An advantage of being translated from books...unlike LOST this show knows EXACTLY where its going! But don't worry about it...you have a whole fan-base to remind you once it comes back up. Ty Frank (main Screenwriter/producer) calls the TV version "Slightly Improved Version.2.0" or their "second chance" to perfect the story.

At 1G it would take you 18 days to travel from the orbital radius of Pluto one side of the solar system to the orbital radius of Pluto on the other side of the Solar System. And that is after accounting for the fact that you are slowing down half the time. Even at 1/3G it would only take 31 days. And time dilation would only shave less than 3 minutes off in either case. I get the impression that in the novels they spend a good deal of time on the drift.
@snarflcat6187

@@rensin2 ...which is over a month. And BTW, the math you use is for Pluto's CLOSEST point to Earth...NOT its farthest point BY ANY MEANS...which most people do not realize is CLOSER than Neptune. So, not quite as impressive as it sounds. Pluto's orbit is INCREDIBLY asymmetric.

@@rensin2 ...and apparently, they don't always move at 1G, or they take some pretty interesting pathing because they DO spend up to 8 months at a time on longer 1-way trips (in the books).

I watched this series. Got 2.5 seasons in and I am not sure if it was me or the show, but all steam was lost. I drifted away, and haven’t returned. Amazon keeps recommending it, but so far I just haven’t felt the desire to click. By the way, I laughed hysterically at the Mormon bits, being LDS myself….very entertaining.

Ceres is the largest "ASteroid" in the sense of the asteroid belt, but the 2nd smallest Dwarf PLanet yet identified (Pluto the largest, which probably accounts for why it was accidentally found in 1930)

Okay, Daws only gave Miller the hand terminal with the contact to where the guy that had jacked up his partner. Miller is shown throwing that away because he doesn't want to be indebted to Daws. Miller found out about the Sherpa from the guy that he was questioning. The Sherpa was the person on the "tender" page that ended up in the morgue, Sherpa in-world is aka a data broker. Don't feel bad. This I had to do two to three rewatchs to get it all. This show is good for it's rewatchablety. I still haven't picked up on all the Simpson's references but I think I have the Don Quixote's. And no, Miller and Julie have not met. He just becomes fixated on her. But yes, he and the lady cop, Octavia Muss, have a past.

By the way our fanbase got our name during this episode " Screaming Firehawks!" Star Trek has the Enterprise and Star Wars has the Millennium Falcon. The Expanse has The Rocinante !! Great reaction guys! The way they present what happened at Andersson Station is really good writting, the characters and the whole system already knows what happened there 11 years ago. It shows the harsh treatment that Earth has dispensed to the Belters. The first season has many references to "Don Quixote", the first episode is called "Dulcinea" the platonic love of don Quixote. Miller has never met Julie Mao before, but for several months of investigation he has become kind of obsessed with her. Rocinante is the horse of don Quixote, and I'm sure that eventually we will see some windmills. It is refreshing how the authors take historical references all the time, something unusual on other science fiction. The world today is still influenced by the events during the France revolution, or the wars in the old Greece, and that influence is not going to change 300 years in the future.

Fred's actor, Chad Coleman is indeed on the wire and twd. Regarding Gia, Miller is just so cynical about everyone at this point that he can't accept that someone will do something so nice and boring as teach someone a language without an ulterior motive

The flashbacks show a compelling story, but what do they actually show with regards to the actions of Fred Johnson, other than one radio message and a stunned guy in a spacesuit, nowhere near the bridge, watching bodies of civilians floating by?
@davyc412
@davyc412 2 жыл бұрын
Maybe not the actions of Fred, but they give insight into the belters view of Fred. He's may now work for the benefit of the belt and for the "opa" but he is far from loved by the belt because he's an eather who is just another mass murderer and oppressor in their eyes. Especially it gives insight into Naomi's resistance to go to Tycho and get help from Fred.

@@davyc412 I suppose it does, but with all the civilians on Anderson Station dead, the only information about the incident would have been supplied by the heads of the UN Navy, none of whom would ever want to accept responsibility for this massacre.
