It is a government inspired crisis this time. The Treasury have to sell Bonds to cover the trade imbalance and the government spending imbalance. In order to sell them they have to raise interest rates and the old long-term, low risk, low interest, AAA investments (including Treasury Bonds), held by the banks (often due to government regulatory policy), become next to worthless. The next milestone is the 15th when the government issue a new batch of Bonds. I have approximately 350k stagnant in my portfolio that needs growth. What is the best way to take advantage of this downturn?
@JosephineKenney2 ай бұрын
Indeed, you are correct! Economic downturns offer numerous prospects for ordinary individuals to create wealth from the ground up. Nevertheless, seeking guidance from an investment planner might be necessary if you desire a more assertive return.

This is why the US should elect more progressive politicians, who know how to manage budgets and give us (yes, pur country's initials literally spell out that pronoun) much better tax credits in return for better public education and better public healthcare. but since these are nonexistent, my husband and I are being guided to finance our retirement and healthcare through a diversified investment portfolio

The dollar is literally being destroyed / debased / devalued. People try to predict the economy not realizing it is not a capitalistic market, its a command economy, central planning! my concern is, instead of having much dollar in bank that could lose value to inflation, do I save in gold to reserve and grow wealth for now, or just hang on?
@sattler96Ай бұрын
truth is that gold serves as an inflation hedge in the long run, but not profitable in the short run. only thing you can predict is a strong effort of wealth transfer from the people to the powerful. luckily some folks find solution in financial advisors

America is currently plagued by the hydra-headed evil duo of inflation and recession. The worst part about this recession is that consumers are racking up credit card debt. In April alone, credit card debt went up 20% while rates have doubled in a year. Inflation is so high that consumers are literally taking debt for basic life necessities. Collapse has indeed begun..

What's missing from this analysis is looking at 'international items' - things that have a more-or-less constant value across the globe. For example food prices may vary greatly but what about the price of a new laptop? Or oil? Or a BMW? People do buy gold in ARG and they pay the global price. If there were people selling gold at half price I'd be down there right now with a fistful of dollars. But they are not. Arbitrage is a bigger truth than either death or taxes.

What you are actually showing is that the officially measured inflation rate is wrong in other countries too. Because you can’t have oil go from $40/b to $90/b and think that the $ has gained value in any country. Your premise rests on the assumption that their inflation rate is accurate. Oil is showing you that it is not.

The only advantage of paper currencies is that it can be exchanged more conveniently and quickly than gold coins. That's it!

Absolutely agree. Living in Japan now with US accounts too. Not only has the $ purchasing power gone up by 30%+ (100 yen => 150 yen), but with the higher level of inflation in the US, statistically salaries have increased by double digits plus compared to Japan, so you have more dollars from higher wages and Japan is stuck in low yen growth/ no growth, so you are doing even better with $s. Overall you probably doubled your purchasing power with $s over the last 20 years, thus impoverishing the Japanese consumer due to poor politician leadership in Japan.

I don't understand the evaluation here where people don't accept gold. It only makes sense for a cashier to decline gold for a miniscule trade. Unless they themselves collect gold the effort for them to sell this gold is not worth it. I am not going to disrupt my work operations to accommodate for another unless I am financially rewarded enough to warrant doing so. Throughout Asia even on small islands there has been 3+ Gold stores. Entire Arab region there are Gold stores/Jewelry stores everywhere where you sell the gold.
