So Reed Sheppard was officially measured under 6’2”. I want to say 6’1.5.” I also like what Yukon for Memphis is doing. The short guard has to be an elite shooter and be elite in space and in creating spacing. Great video though.

This is an interesting analysis! The league has changed in so many ways over the last decade and the decline of the small guard is one change that we don’t often talk about. Great video! Also, love the WNBA hoodie!

A factor you missed is that initially when shooting became important there were less tall players that could shoot at a high level. Because of this revolution taller players coming in had focused more and more on shooting to the point where you get 6ft8 players shooting the same as smaller guards, making the smaller guys obsolete. Sadly unless there are perennial all star small guards coming in, chances are small guards are gone for good basically.

this is a great point! in the future I would love to go deeper into the evolution of shooting bigs and how that’s now almost a requirement for bigs in the league

Tbh I was thinking this when I was watching Cole Anthony play yesterday. He has a lot of hustle on defense but on offense, he struggles as hes too damn short and doesn't have a lot of experience. Tbf, the magic has too many players that can score due to their size and skill set. Cole does great with handling the ball most of the time and does well with play making. I swear he be better in another era.

I think there’s something to the quickness, being able to maneuver in tight corners, explosiveness, and stamina that is a unique advantage to smaller players that taller players can’t match. And also taller players are more prone to injury. I can’t imagine a 6’10 player being able to run around off the ball like Curry does all game.
