HFY is a story/series that takes a “human element” in either humanity or an “other” (race/species or object) that exists in a “setting” (future or other world/universe) with varying levels of culture, technology, society and history that help show in some shape or form the potential good or bad for humanity’s race/culture. In These stories Humans are often referred to as Human, Humanity, Deathworlder, Hellwolder in reference to the human planet of origin , Earth. This planet is seen by most of the universe as a place where only death and chaos can survive.

Humans Are Space Orcs (HASO) or Humans Are (Fantasy Race) Are used as a guide when writing.
In these Stories we normally View humans like the other races view orcs in a Fantasy Novel. We (Humans) share the same characteristics and personalities as orcs. Humans are normally treated as the outsiders and barbarians. Humans tend to be underestimated as well in these stories. Unlike Humanity Feck Yea , these don't always put a positive spin on humans\humanity sometimes looking at the darker side of human and humanity from the perspective of aliens.

Love the "War Games" reference. And I myself totally came into this story expecting something totally different from the F-Bomb tale. Then again, I am a construction worker in the US, who frequently sees stickers on other guys' hardhats with messages like Eff the Metric System, Rule #1, the Electrician is always right rule #2, see rule #1, Plumbers Lay More Pipe, Take Cover F-Bomb Incoming, etc.

First story, I love they call it the "doom hammer." Yeah, when he dropped the F bomb, and every human in the bar stood up... the alien was lucky security got to him. Bloody pulp is so hard to clean off of floors and walls.

The scarier part abou the F bomb is that other humans will respond to it. We will stand by the F bomb of others, we will fight along side others because of the F bombs we never met, even when it is not our F bombs in the line.

Pack bonding - your neighbor may be a big evolved frog, but as she's a NICE neighbor, you know her and associate with her - you get PO'ed when a stranger harasses and threatens her. Story 2: LOL of course humans made weapons that you could talk to. Pack bond to AI weaponry and the weapons convince everyone that peace is so much better anyway.

No, no, she not a neighbor, she's a Neighbor. neighbors are theoretical beings that exist in one's proximity. A Neighbor is specific person you know. Humans have a finite, if remarkably large, number of people they can care about. If you are in, the human cares. And humans care hard.

Recent idea for something aliens could react to in an HFY story involving garden worlds: how much humans engineer things to move with wind, earthquakes, waves, etc, instead of resisting them, like how traffic lights will wobble when there's a high wind. If the aliens are from a garden world, they might not have half the engineering worked out for how to do that lol
