When they were not one, but both feet into bankruptcy, they said "we're very sorry but we're breaking our oath of free dlc to survive.." and the community said "OK, no problem, we'll pull through we want to see the next game" so we bought the DLCs, which were at first just a bunch reused assets that could earn them a nobel prize for recycling, and then they made increasingly better content and we were actually pretty golded ! then they said "Ok people we're back in the game and we're working on Payday3", we thought that we did it, we helped with our wallet and we deserve it ! And then.. this.., this game is not only extremely disappointing, its a pure backstab and betrayal. On payday2 we were a community that got quality, and on payday3 we're apparently being seen as cow you can milk, and it's only gonna get worse from here, since there will be the dreaded MTX.. I predict the game will go free with the standard F2P formula of good looking cosmetics and even weapon attachment behind a paywall, with battlepass and perhaps even lootchest.. And I predict me and everyone else will get the fuck out, and since it's an online service, once they pull the plug, the game will be unavailable to play of course.

Trying to prevent piracy instead of addressing the problems that drive people to piracy is like cutting off your foot because you keep stubbing your toe on an awkwardly placed piece of furniture, than just moving the furniture. It doesn’t surprise me that Payday 3 is failing after you mentioned the developer was purchased by another company: aka, a publicly traded company. The decline of any successful company always comes because of share holders refusing to take any risks and implementing idiotic policies because they’re out of touch with reality, or just don’t know or care about the industry they’re buying stock in. Mod tools to edit hardcoded items for Workshop support. DLC is still purchased but can be modded client-side. Graphical improvements. Gore, gibs, and dismemberment. Ability to carry or manhandle hostages (which was implemented). Just some thoughts and suggestions to be fair with my own criticism.

They need to add a public play test server or an expirental build option. To let us test out things and give feedback prior to update roll outs. Saves them the time of fixing things they made worse or didnt improve as intended after more people have a chance to really test it out like they are doing now. This will speed up how quickly they can put out new mechanics and fixes to the existing issues as that would be one team, where a seperate team is working on new major content. Yes it splits up the player base, but it allows for faster improvement of the game which it needs to agoid dying before it can see its true potential. The base is good, they just need to tweek what they already have and get it running well to improve the feel of the gameplay loop, then the lack of content wont be as big of an issue.

The most amusing part of their "stated reasons" for switching to GAAS, the cheating and piracy, has already happened. People in Payday 3 lobbies are already cheating in various ways (saw a guy just a while ago with an instant lockpicking mod on in a lobby), and I'm pretty sure people with creamAPI are still able to unlock DLCs since a lot of it is still handled through the Steam frontend, or at least it's easy enough that a simple flag change can give access to DLCs. So what we're left with is just an overall inferior game to Payday 2 without the benefit to play solo if you just really like the gameplay, or host your own lobbies where you have complete control over what happens in it (you can't even votekick people in Payday 3 right now, to my knowledge). Payday 2 had its share of problems, too, mainly shitty peer-to-peer connections and losing sometimes over an hour of effort to the host's shitty WiFi, and then there's the small fortune it costs to buy the DLC. I think Payday 3 was operating under the assumption that the longevity seen by Payday 2 and its cult following would simply translate to Payday 3 on day one, but the gaming industry in 2013 was unrecognizable by comparison to today's. The classic studio response of shifting blame from themselves to players has been so overdone, players are wising up and rightly rejecting games outright. Alas tho to see PD3 had no offline mode effectively killed any interest I had in it, its what made PD2 such a gem in a shit storm of always online games that are shoved down our collective throats at nauseam. I do take some issue with your praise for Paradox tho, especially when it comes to fundamental flaws in their games, having played Cities: Skylines for a number of years myself and my fellow players will tell you after nearly a decade they never once bothered to fix the traffic issues in that game, despite it being one of the most harped on and universally despised aspects of that game by the player base and something Paradox knew full well it existed. The only saving grace for the PC community was the modding community stepping up to the plate to fix the problem that Paradox never lifted a finger to address however, this left the console community high and dry to deal with the problem alone, which isn't the fault of the modders mind you by any means and falls squarely in the lap of Paradox. The worst part is despite all the dlc dropped for that game Paradox never once offered a effective solution for dealing with the problem, a problem which was apparently quite easily solvable given that modders were able to figure it out and that tells me Paradox should have easily been able to as well, but never even remotely bothered to and from what I've gathered it is apparently still a issue in the sequel as well and I don't know what excuse they can possibly pull out of their ass now after failing for a second time on that front.

DLSS isn't produced by the devs but the implementation most definitely IS. Any time spent on that (the 1-2 days you mention? How many people? Convert it to man hours and it's usually a lot more than you think) is time that could potentially have been better spent elsewhere. Optimisation is better than many but it still ain't great, I can run it at low settings and it's reasonable (20-45 FPS). My friends trying to run it on significantly newer GPUs get an absolute slideshow. 3060 and 3080 say "No!" and I'm still trying to troubleshoot why but they aren't isolated examples. Those couple of days for 4K and DLSS might have solved that. OK, it's a pet peeve as I still see little point to that shite, especially as pretty much everything is both a console and PC release but that's time that could possibly have been better spent elsewhere. Also speculating that all this up-tick in visuals was done to hit the 4k community also is bat-shit insane. Fundamentally game developers usually try to target the upper-mid market with recommended specs and then boosting some visuals to hit the high-end. Releasing low-grade, visual wise, game simply would be mocked and laughed at hard + better graphics DO SELL games. Today GTX1060 and RX580 are now considered a low-tier hardwere, where it was once lower-mid-tier about 5 years back. I too often forget how quickly tech moves... like 5years back my RTX2080TI was top of the line.. now it's at best upper-mid-tier.

You would have developers create textures that cap out at what, 2K resolution? Implementing optional 4K/8K textures doesn't hurt people with 1080p displays, except maybe upping the storage requirements (which could also be solved by having high res textures be an optional, free DLC). Not implementing textures to the current standard will however, hurt everyone capable of using them. And in case you are not aware, about 70% of gamers run an Nvidia card of some sort, most of which support at least DLSS2. In other words, hardly a wasted effort. There are many reasons to dislike Payday 3, but them following the industry standards of resolution and graphics tech implementation is simply not one of them.

As someone who was there, I would say that the onl problem PD2 had on release was a mere lack of content, which, to me, means the game was so good everybody just wanted *more* of it, lol.

I honestly think Payday 3 is the last nail in the coffin for me. Too many devs are taking good games and making them trash by changing everything fhat was good about them. Instread of sticking with what works and releasing new games to see whats innovative and whats trash. They just take successful games, try to reinvent them and just make them suck. COD, Assassins Creed, Saints Row, now Payday. None of the devs seem to understand what their roots are and what made them great. Tired of wasting money on trash.

BUT. strong BUT. its a horrible excuse for there not to be an offline mode because there was an option for, if you were hosting, to auto kick modders/cheaters from your game. so they could've easily put that in payday 3.

No this is a failure through and through. There are hundreds of nebula accounts at least softlocked due to bugs. Some even since launch all unable to play because Starbreeze was too cheap to buy get the job done right. They released a half done game it didn't work at launch and there are still hundreds locked out of the game they paid for. Not due to specs but pure idiocy from the devs and only caring about money. @mcarpen89 Жыл бұрын
Great video, Yamiks. This topic is near and dear to me as an old Payday 2 player. Like it or not, movement shooters are very trendy right now. Payday 3 didn't have to be a movement shooter but making it more sluggish than Payday 2 was a big mistake. Payday 2 was the first game I put more than 200 hours into. I put about 700 hours into it before finally losing interest. The grind wasn't what kept me playing. What kept me playing was the way the heists were randomized and the buffet of character builds that were possible. No two heists ever went down exactly the same way because they had enough variables to make you adjust your run each time. I enjoyed making highly optimized builds for stealth, loud, mobility, etc. These builds didn't require a ton of grind to put together, but the amount of variety available in the game kept you coming back to do another build with the latest DLC weapon or ability. On top of that, they continued to add new heists that brought more variety to the game each time. I cannot tell you how excited I was for the Shadow Raid heist, the Dentist heists, Hotline Miami heists, etc. I will never not agree that every online game needs to have an offline mode, but for PVE games that aren't MMOs, I think peer-to-peer networking is equally important to having an offline mode. Peer-to-peer matchmaking has its own quirks and challenges, but for co-op games its undeniably the superior networking solution over using dedicated servers. I met people using cheats. Even some using griefing mods. It was never a big deal. You just leave the game and join a different one. Never understood the appeal of using cheats in a PVE game but w/e. The point is, Payday 2 will be playable forever. Payday 3 is completely dependent on the servers, offers a worse experience for the user, AND it will incur higher operating costs for Starbreeze. A baffling decision. It wasn't grind that sustained Payday 2. It was variety. For me, the bloat and power creep eventually became too much and I lost interest, but not before buying all the DLC packs for most of the life cycle of the service. I'd consider that a critical AND financial success for Overkill. When I saw how clunky and grindy Payday 3 was and the fact that it used dedicated servers instead of peer-to-peer, I didn't even bother buying it.

There was no failure to payday 3, the most how much of a big deal people made it out to be, because other then the server issues, payday 3 is a good game, the server issues have been fixed since the first week it was released, as for the "lack of content" people are mentioning, if you go back to the early days when payday 2 was released, it had much less content and alot of payday 2's mechanics werent even a part of the game and were later added, like for example the melee. But of course alot of people like yourself, had only played payday 2 10 years later when it was a fully polished game not the simple game it was at the start, and it was still a good game however at the start, and its the same with payday 3. So I don't think Payday 3 is a failure in the slightest, if anything by the looks if it, it seems to be a huge success, cause at least its "terrible release" has weeded out all the toxic internet shitbags that i will never have the disgust of meeting online.

As a long time fan and player. This happened at the start of payday 1 and 2. And comparing 10 year's of content the to a new engine. But best part is you are saying you only just tried 2. Unfortunately give it time no matter what. Go back and play the launch version on 2 then what it is at the end. So to be honest this is more click bait because payday is at a rocky place. And to the challenges. Mate do the gun challenge and to how many times you need to complete a job. Over the year's you will complete till new content. And the live service? Where. You need to buy DLC. And free content updates. Do some research before you upload. Ohhhh and offline is coming. It was a pirate and mod issue they admitted it stuffed up.
