Starts a little slow. Not everything lands. A touch too long. But on the whole, I really really enjoyed myself. This movie is the definition of 'you get what you paid for' : fun banter/chemistry/easy romance from Gosling and Blunt, and some truly amazing stunt sequences. And really, I struggle to think of any other actor right now who can ably pull-off what Gosling is able to do here (easy charm, acting chops, real action), 7.5/8-10

4/5 for me. Saw it today on a Dolby screen and just had such a blast. This is the kind of summer blockbuster that’s able to have its cake and eat it too. Applies to the general moviegoers on an entertainment level but works on the deeper level of cinephiles and film lovers. As someone who’s obsessed with filmmaking and stunt work I’m so glad this was such a love letter to it. Because for whatever reason it seems like actors never like to acknowledge or discuss stunt doubles and what the importance stunt people are. So I’m glad David was given $125-150 million to make a love letter to the world that he knows so well. I mean in the simplest terms: stunt performers can die making sure actors look cool.

Glad you loved it too! Hopefully it will find an audience as the summer goes on.

Excited to see this one. It would be nice if the Academy would start recognizing stunts, and give Oscar's for the work. I still have my Matchbox "The Fall Guy" pick up truck from when I was but a child.

Thanks for your views, as usual! Effective trailer. Can't say I actually watched the Lee Majors series but one can probably sense the origin stuff. I’m surprised no reviewers have commented on how this movie pulls a Disney Marvel move having the female lead be the strong emotionless one and the male lead (who’s the toughest guy physically like a true human super hero) is crying in his truck to a Taylor swift song missing here and she’s the commanding director etc It wasn’t as good as the hype, about the same level yes as bullet train And stunts should absolutely be an academy Oscar’s category

I just want to add that emily blunt being that sort of horrible to ryan gosling at the start when the guy fell and broke his back and was seriously injured and had to recover from it. Just that bit really did rub me the wrong way - the way she was talking to him with the loudspeaker, and the physically painful stunt she made him do, the constant stunt pulls that whack his body into the wall. Its actual physical abuse from a person in a position of power and played for laughs? I mean like "LOVE?!". He broke his back and this is her level of empathy.
@BreakfastAllDay7 ай бұрын
She also explains that she tried to reach out to him repeatedly after his injury, and he acknowledges that he blew her off. She was there for him and he rejected her.

I saw a comment on Reddit, that inspired me to watch this, saying The Fall Guy was kind of like The Truman Show, so I kept expecting some twist, like he was having a breakdown, or in a coma, but in the end it worked well without that.. It did drag on a bit though.

@@BreakfastAllDay Update!! So, I just watched this, and you guys nailed the review, I am more at like a 7, I laughed a few times and some good action, definitely agree it is too long. Emily and Ryan are great together as you said but Ryan seems to have chemistry w/ everyone he stars with, lol.

Openly wondering if the fix for this [🍿🎥] is nutritional yeast. Seriously, nutritional yeast adds that umami cheesy flavor that elevates the popcorn. What is the personification of adding nutritional yeast for production? Is said process something that can be applied across all creative. I’m thinking of the point Betty Edwards makes when she asks her practitioners to explore the intertextual connections in creative endeavors in the 4th edition of Drawing on the right side of the brain.

Wanted to like it and just couldn't. I found it really smug with irritating "banter" that goes on forever like one of Judd Apatow's Extended DVD Editions. The last thing I'd describe this as is _zippy_ - made me yearn for the days of Romancing the Stone or True Lies or Long Kiss Goodnight where the comedy never undercuts the action. Shame because there's a fun Shane Black style mystery buried under all that mess.

overlay sounds, too long.... I kinda get the idea, But I'm in the minority, I have seen enough Ryan Gosling films in one hand and it's like "Uh, kinda don't know what's the big deal 25 years later." But yeah, 2 hours is too much, 1:40 is the sweet spot.

@@BreakfastAllDay I actually love the rom-com aspect of the movie more than the action. The Emily Blunt action sequence is better than any of the stuff Ryan Gosling is doing , surprisingly. It's okay, but not something I would repeatedly watch.

I thought Aaron Taylor Johnson was really meh in this actually! He's been a lot better in nowhere boy, kickass, bullet train. I was kind of disappointed in the stunts. I thought a lot of it was quite typical, I was hoping to see something more exciting and inventive. Also thought the jokes were hit and miss. Ryan gosling kind of carries it. Everyone else is just ok or meh. I'd give it a 5 or 6 out of 10.

Big Ryan Gosling fan here, and I was expecting to really enjoy this film but for me it crashed and burned. Most of the jokes fell flat - it tried too hard to be funny. No one in the theatre laughed once. The action scenes dragged on too long - too much repetitive punching, especially by women. Having a female camera woman and joke about blank bullets in a gun was in bad taste. Too soon after the death of Helena Hutchins. Emily Blunt needs to lay off the injectables - suffering from frozen face. You're an actor - how can you show emotion when nothing moves?
