FYI, Revenant's Toll also had another minor recent expansion due to them adding flight into ARR zones. Walls and walkways have been built up to give the town more vertical eye candy for fliers, but mostly to act as physical barriers to flying over the mountains into Coerthas.

Huh, I'd been confused during the shift from Waking Sands to Rising Stones how revenant's toll kept being referred to as bare and desolate while it was a nice little town. Now I know!

I really loved how revenant's toll and Idyllshire evolved throughout arr and heavenward. I rarely went to the reach because it lacked that.

This series really makes one appreciate and respect Square Enix for its dedication to this game and love of the fans. They really poured their everything in to perfecting this game. I remember the 1.0 days, it brings tears to my eyes to see how far FFXIV has come since then.

This episode made me realize when exactly it is I first started playing. I had it in my mind I hadn't started playing until near Heavensward, but, seeing those glamour prisms is triggering and I realized "Holy shit I've been playing since near the beginning." I've always loved these videos from you all, but this was the first time here nostalgia slapped me over the head. XD I'm really glad to see this, especially a day before a whole new expansion hits. The release date of this patch is when I first started playing the game on PS4. I play on pc now but I had a blast with the game on PS4 in its first year or two.

I am whole glad that I no longer have to grind to level 50 to unlock glamour as well as wholly glad that all glamour prisms are consolidated into one kind now, nor do I have to possess a level 50 crafter to craft prisms of any grades, the glamour system really upgraded since back when I first started

I still think about the original glamour system pretty often, because I have a grade 4 goldsmithing prism on an alt. As terrible as it was utilizing glamours, I made a good amount of gil selling the skin and the cloth used for the leatherworking and weaving ones, since those were the most commonly used.

Wow yea I only started playing a few months ago and had no idea about Revenant's Toll while I was playing 2.x. on one hand that's awesome that the town grew over the patches especially considering the MSQ at that time but on another it sucks new players like myself don't get to experience that growth while playing through the 2.x MSQ.

I loved how Revenants toll evolved. Idyllshire also changed throughout HW. I kinda miss the evolving endgame zones. I also forgot just how tedious glamour was back then. I made so much gil crafting prisms. I know 1.0 relics are famous for being a brutal grind compared to today, but some steps like Atma where really brutal especially if you had horrendous rng.

I still hold out hope that someday they will edit the glamour system to work like FFXI, where you can equip any gear on any job (only requirement was you had to have a job that could wear it). Example. You had a 70 SMN and a 50 SAM, you could glamour any 1-50 SAM equipment on your Summoner.

I started the game on literally the last day of 2.1. That meant I spent my levelling days wondering why everyone kept yelling for Atma parties in the overworld zones. All I knew about Atma at the time was form FF6. Oh, how naive I was.

yay!! at the part in the history of the game where I can say. "and this is where I joined the game." though it was closer to the end of 2.2 then the beginning. Also, I remember that Glamor system. I do not miss it at all. though I can't say I have any memory of the Atma phase of Relic, as I never really bothered with relic weapons, till Heavensward anyway, and even then only for my Dark Knight and cause I had fuck all else to do till Stormblood. In ARR's case, I just had to much other shit to do to full get my footing. Like figuring what Job is was actually gonna play. (which imeaditately got kicked in the head in Heavensward when Dark Knights became a thing.)

I feel like the worst thing about the Atma Relic step is the reward for all of it is REMOVING THE GLOW for the weapon. Worse, it was followed by the Book step, which ALSO took forever, meaning you were stuck with the non-glowing weapon forever. And even worse, for some Jobs, the change wasn't even noticeable. I didn't even realize (WHM at the time) that the color had changed until MUUUUUCH later when I eventually did Atma on SCH and saw the book change color from white to black (which was more noticeable). It was so depressing my WHM Relic (the only one I had at that level) stayed only a handful of books complete until ShB when I finally went back and seriously got into Relic farming. I can always say I did the Relic steps up to that when they were relevant, but my god, that step was just SO depressing, especially on WHM. T_T

The Atma phase of the relic weapon wasn't that bad, the step after, with the books(trials of the braves?) was way worse as it required specific fates and you could only complete one book at a time took me half a year because some of the fate just wouldn't spawn for weeks.

It is a broken record at this point but Yoshi-P stating right up front that the players, the fans, were the most important resource they could have is such a huge departure for a WoW-refugee; coming from a company that develops a game for themselves rather than for their fans while trying to convince us that they're taking our considerations into account. That the FFXIV team considers everything and everyone makes FFXIV the best MMO, or even the best game, for modern gamers.
