One of the best, if not the best discussion on Liberation theology. Allie, you did a masterful job of asking the right questions steering the convo in such a way to truly expose this evil pseudo Christianity. And you offered some excellent insights. Your two guests were so articulate and well reasoned that I kept amening them. :) It gives me great hope when such devoted Christians are so well equipped to meet the challenges of our day. Thanks!

This is a great discussion! I immediately start assuming someone is a false teacher when they state "If you call yourself a Christian, you would..." Nope. what I do is between me and God. And my salvation is not dependent on your approval. Indeed, if I seek your approval, I think that is the wrong focus and priority in my life. I seek daily to do two things. One is to reflect God's glory and invites others to focus on God, not to elevate myself. The other is if I fall down, I get up and try again. God honors the effort to keep trying to be better even in the midst of our struggles.

Thank you for this episode. I just realized, wholly, that advantage/disadvantage is no where near the same thing as privilege/oppression. Wonderful job, all three of you! Why would we need to be warned against covetousness, etcetera if we have the same advantages/disadvantages in life? Perhaps when a concern exists with a church/brethren, we tend to stay and fight in order to right the wrong, but when the issue is within ourselves, we leave rather than take responsibility for correcting ourselves.

Thank you! “The message of the Gospel is a message of cosmic Inequality.” 🎤🫳Human beings are not equal to G-d and never will be. Whoa! Preach! So good AND foundational. We are all sinners (liars, cheaters, blasphemers, adulterers, envious, selfish, prideful, murders, etc) and we deserve nothing from a perfect G-d, but to be cast far from Him into hell for eternity. Yet…it’s only through G-d’s love, mercy and grace that we even have the opportunity to go to heaven through the selfless sacrifice of His son Jesus!! Yet, not just anyone will be allowed to enter in because He knows who His legitimate children are. Thank you for speaking the Truth boldly and without apology. May G-d bless you all. 🙏

Always love hearing from Darrell and Omaheeeezy. Just got a Just Thinking dad hat and not only do I look better I think I think better. Might just be my opinion. Just want to encourage someone to share the gospel today. Are you going to heaven? Most people would say that they’ve been good enough to get into heaven. Would you pass the test? Let’s take a quick look! 1. How many lies have you told in your whole life? 2. Have you ever stolen anything no matter how little the value? 3. Have you ever used the Lords name in vain (like OMG)? These are three of the 10 Commandments and if you answered yes to these questions that would make YOU like the rest of US. Judged by God’s standards, would you be innocent or guilty? Heaven or hell? The 10 Commandments are God’s moral law and we’ve all broken them. The Bible says the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23) which means we have all earned death (hell). But the free gift of God is eternal life. Because of God’s love, he has provided a way to heaven (1 Timothy 2:4). He sent his son Jesus Christ to pay our penalty. Jesus lived a sinless life, died on the cross for our sins (1 John 2:2) and rose bodily from the grave three days later to give us life. Jesus took the punishment we deserve on the cross (1 Peter 2:24). If we believe and put our trust in Him we too can have eternal life in heaven (Acts 16:31). Repent (which means turn from your sins and not live the life of a hypocrite) and trust Jesus today!

There's a lot of different ideas being said about Liberation Theology in this video. If you'd like a perspective on Liberation theology that talks about sin and talks about an eschatology that has a vision of heavenly salvation - my professor was a student of Cone and I'd love to connect folks to sources that actually reflect what liberation theologians are talking about. Many liberation theologians are actually not only focused on simply gaining "equity" and "equality" because they don't believe it will ever really be possible.

I thank God for you Allie and those you bring on board all the times. They bring a lot of clarity. I think in the past Allie has highlighted areas that the Church has been laxed on demonstrating her call to pursue justice as loudly as she should. It is that absence that opens up the vacuum for the devil to fill with lies pretending to meet the social and physical needs of communities of people. If the Church would be loud and forceful against abortion, she should be the same for the end of church worship segregation on Sunday mornings, for visible reconciliation among black and white Christians all over the nation, for issues related to education, for the black on black killings etc.

Great points. We are not assigned to try and redeem the culture or society. Jesus didn't try to overthrow governments and rulers, he aimed at the heart, often on a individual basis. The HEART is the matter. We shouldn't aim to overturn culture, rather, aim at the heart in conversations and rather side step culture fairly quickly so that the conversation starts aiming towards eternal matters, not societal equality things. Matthew 24:35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. ◄ Isaiah 40:7 ► The grass withers and the flowers fall, because the breath of the LORD blows on them. Surely the people are grass. Thankful for these brothers.

Jesus, who is the God of the OT, died as the sacrifice for sin. Sin requires a blood sacrifice, by his making of his law. It was a sacrifice of " the flesh". Which he calls us to do. It's about turning from this carnal world of sin, which he designed and intended for carnal "fruitful multiplying". Yet he wills his chosen to turn, repent, of sinfulness and learn of his Spirit. He wants us to walk in the Spirit to do his will thru us, now. As we will in heaven when sin is abolished, and we will have new life of innocence again, as it was in the garden.

If you want true liberation and freedom, turn from evil and do good by following the words and teachings of Jesus the Messiah...all others are the voice of the stranger that you must flee from. Scripture gives believers in Christ this warning of false prophets and men who speak on their own authority-and not from God. “These men are springs without water and mists driven by a storm. Blackest darkness is reserved for them. With lofty but empty words, they appeal to the sensual passions of the flesh and entice those who are just escaping from others who live in error. -They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves to depravity. For a man is a slave to whatever has mastered him.” 2 Peter 2:17-19 Whether one does it in this life or in the afterlife...everyone will confess this truth; “Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:9-11

I gently & respectfully responded (esp bc he was cutting my hair😄) to some of his comments regarding the age of the universe & evolution, but I had never heard this claim from someone directly & therefore couldn't speak directly to those specific claims, only some of his supporting arguments.... It was good conversation, and he was _actually_ interested in some of the sources I've gleaned from like Genesis Apologetics, Creation Ministries, Answers In Genesis, etc.... Would love to know why Allie is referring to her own Christianity as "orthodox." It seems as though the word choice is to indicate that there is a type of "real" or "inherent" Christianity that Allie and folks subscribe to. In my own perspective, the term "Orthodox Christianity" refers to Eastern Orthodox Christians, who I feel like Allie would not get a long with. I feel like this conversation is incredibly informed, exact, well-made, and well-organized. It's also incredibly dangerous.

Historical I think it meant believing in the Trinity, who Jesus was and is. That he conquered death by resurrection and will sit at the right hand of the father. That's Orthodox thinking, as opposed to Arianism, which was deemed heretical. Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholism split in the 4th century I believe, then Orthodox was attached to Greek Christianity initially. I got this thinking from Justo Gonzalez book "The Story of Christianity" Great book. It actually has two volumes. He goes through the history of the church, ideas, councils, empires, kings, traditions and its founders.

I do agree that saving faith wil have fruit. The gospel will change a goat nature to a sheep nature. Matt 25 describes the fruit but not how a goat can become a sheep. That happens in the saving grace of the gospel, the new birth and adoption as we glorify God leaning on the work of Jesus on the Cross believing for eternal life. Sticking some apples and oranges on a dead true and exepting fruit is not the way to go but that's the humanism fix Ibram is promoting.

Kendi's definition of savior theology is either wrong or is not definitive of real Christianity. Christian's save no one. God alone saves and thus his definition applies say seeker sensitive or best life now crowds that seek to save. Grace alone, faith alone, Christ alone, and moreover, there is no promise of a better life or best life now, but salvation is from eternal damnation because of sin, not in spite of.

First, I agree with you that Kendi's description of salvation theology was not at all correct; only God can save. However, be careful. Jesus said, "I came that you might have life and have it more abundantly." He also said, "Blessed are you when you are persecuted for my name's sake." In other words, spiritual renewal/rebirth WILL have a positive impact on our lives and make them better (at least better than they would be without it), but that does not guarantee that we will live without tribulations or even persecution.

I subscribe to Savior theology but I also know that this same theology can also save racists from their racism, and change (liberate) societal racism and white supremacy by the power of Jesus' forgiveness and salvation. Kendi is not Saved as we know it, so his theology will be off. But racists and white supremacists still need the saving power of Jesus Christ to liberate them (true Liberation Theology) from their sins.

I totally agree with you. I view it like this, out of our salvation in Christ and a redeemed heart and right relationship with God, the scales have fallen from my blind eyes and I can see where I may or may not be applying the tenents of Scripture justly. I can see where I need to change my thoughts, words, actions (with the Holy Spirits help) to conduct myself in all spheres of my life including public discourse and to some degree social justice in ways that are God-honoring. I guess to me it's where the heart is first. Out of a redeemed heart flows justice and righteousness. I really dislike what is happening in our country right now. Mr. Kendi genuinely thinks he's doing a good thing, but I wonder if we could get a peak of what scholars, media, historians 100 to 120 years from now think of Mr. Kendi and his teachings, we might be surprised. They may view him horribly.

Because many of these people already claim to be Christians and don't see these evils as a problem. Well, Jesus sees it much differently as He said in Matt. 7:22, 23, and also reveals His judgement and justice in Rev. 20:11-15.

@@lbamusic I probably do not define systemic racism the way the world defines it, but I believe there is something there. My belief if that there were laws that were enacted years ago that were racist and based on hate. Because of the Civil Rights Movement, those laws were abolished and new laws were enacted. Well, any time a law is enacted the eventual departments, units, and agencies which have abide by those laws draft policies and procedures to follow those laws. I think we need to have an honest conversation about how well agencies/departments are following the polices and procedures and honestly whether those policies and procedures may need updating or even if the directors who oversee those agencies/departments are not being good leaders in how their people actually physically carry out those policies and procedures. Plus as humans, we do not always do our jobs or even conduct our own lives to the best of our abilities. Sin in the heart causes laziness and mediocrity. I have no doubt that there were people who when the Civil Rights Laws were enacted really got in there and changed how they did their jobs and they did it at like an A+ effort, but I am also sure there were people who when these laws were enacted, well because of either hate in their heart or just mediocrity, decided oh well, I'll do it but not with real gusto, who gave more marginal effort. No two people do the same level of effort. And I hate to say it, but I think people more often than not, figure out "what is the least effort I can do and still be following the law." That is the very reason Jesus came. God sent Jesus as THE BEST of what he had to save us from our sinful heart, so we in turn would give THE BEST of what we have and who we are to Him and to the world around us. I wonder if that is the whole problem: everybody is figuring out "what is the least I can do in this situation" and not asking "what is the best I can be doing in this situation." That's my thought anyway.

@@thewordistruth399 ... I sense that your thoughts are sincere and I appreciate your sharing them with me and this forum. I am nearly 8 decades old and grew up in the North, in NYC which is considered liberal compared to the South and Southwest. I can tell you that prior to the civil rights laws of the 1960s, most of America practiced various forms of systemic racism, just as it was systemic in the South. I did most of mybmilitary duty at a Naval Intelligence base in Bremerton, Washington - in the NE corner of the USA. The town was fully segregated and I was denied counter service at Woolworth's in the heart of town. The only place where I could eat in town, off the base, was a small Cafe owned by a Jewish guy named Sammys. I mention this to illustrate how widespread systemic racism was, and now to a lesser extent, still is. Now we have more prosecutions and harsher sentences for Blacks, than for same crimes committed by Whites. Proportionally more police killings of unarmed Blacks at traffic stops, than Whites who are stopped. And such disparities are in every sector of American life and is indeed, systemic racism. The good news from my perspective is that my Creator God who is Omnipotent, Omniscient, Omnipresent, etc., sees all the injustices, the racism, and all kinds of systemic evils. It is God who I have placed my trust in, to balance the scales of justice and to punish the unjust. It is also God who really knows who belongs to Him, from every race and country on Earth. I believe the Evangelicals are the chief deniers of this systemic racism, and are opposed to any accountability for it. In Matt. 7:22, 23, God says He never knew them, and that is sadly what most of them will hear. There is nothing wrong with how you see the problem and the solutions you offer. It's just much more serious and widespread than you can imagine. God bless and keep you.

I beg your pardon? Please give evidence. I marched with Dr. King from the AME church in Memphis shortly before he was murdered. I heard him preach and sing. I was inspired by him to do a few things he would have approved of but more importantly, that Jesus would have approved of. I read Pablo Freire while teaching at a university in San Salvador. He did suggest that the learner be empowered, that knowledge not be deposited in someone’s brain like money in a bank. His educational philosophy was used to defend liberation theology but his words were misused.

@@annbrucepineda8093 hey Ann, not trying to stir any pots. MLK Jr. can do so himself and in his legacy, which I think has a heavy impact still today. I also never said if it was biblical or not,, there are arguments for both. Many articles have been written, bringing together his lectures, writings and teachings. One example from the Gospel Coalition, "King held unorthodox views on theology, which he expressed during his time at Crozer Theological Seminary. In a paper he wrote for a systematic theology class he cast skeptical aspersions on the doctrines of divine Sonship, the Virgin Birth (”. . . the evidence for the tenability of this doctrine is too shallow to convince any objective thinker”), and the Resurrection (”. . . the external evidence for the authenticity of this doctrine is found wanting”). In the conclusion of another paper he writes, Others doctrines such as a supernatural plan of salvation, the Trinity, the substitutionary theory of the atonement, and the second coming of Christ are all quite prominent in fundamentalist thinking. Such are the views of the fundamentalist and they reveal that he is opposed to theological adaptation to social and cultural change. He sees a progressive scientific age as a retrogressive spiritual age. Amid change all around he is willing to preserve certain ancient ideas even though they are contrary to science." This article shows his legacy www.nbcnews.com/think/opinion/martin-luther-king-jr-s-legacy-lives-rev-dr-raphael-ncna1254513 This article supports it as Biblical baptistnews.com/article/martin-luther-king-and-a-theology-of-liberation/#.YIrmwFNlA0E MLK Jr taught a type, or precursor to modern liberation theology, that is not in question. The question is, is it Biblical? Moreover, if it is true that MLK Jr. denies the virgin birth, Christ's deity and the resurrection, can he still be considered a Christian?

This episode may require multiple replays, because there is quite a bit to unpack. On the first listen, I have to say, I'm a bit challenged to believe that because *inequity is part of the human condition - we should not attempt to correct wrong doings of the past* by pressing for equity in the present. Especially when for years, other western countries, like Finland, have been able to reduce inequity for their citizens effortlessly. And I think, one way to approach it would be determine what are the best ways to give back to *anyone who can prove/present the case they and their family or community has been marginalized* for years or by stopping practices which intentionally try to handicap certain sets of people. Remove race from the argument for now and simply look at all persons who need help, why they need help and how can they get help from the Federal Level. I mentioned Finland earlier because their government has managed to execute equity flawlessly for newborns (irrespective of race) for over seven decades. "For 75 years, Finland's expectant mothers have been given a box by the state. It's like a starter kit of clothes, sheets and toys that can even be used as a bed. And some say it helped Finland achieve one of the world's lowest infant mortality rates. It's a tradition that dates back to the 1930s and it's designed to give all children in Finland, no matter what background they're from, an equal start in life. The maternity package - a gift from the government - is available to all expectant mothers." (Source BBC News Online). The United States pro-ports to be one of the wealthiest countries in the world, which is why it it mystifying to me that so many Americans refuse to support social programs which the country can afford. The conversation seems to be more about persons simply not wanting to pay for these programs which to me speaks to the heart of the individuals who object to the spending - not the means of the request. I also agree with Allie's definition of equity under the law - which I believe we have seen repeatedly throughout history *has not been applied to all ethnicities* in the US.

IMO more government is never the answer. We are called to provide for the widow and the orphan. (Less fortunate) But we can’t guarantee that providing the less fortunate with material things will result in equal outcomes. That’s what I take away from equity vs equality. In the Bible there is a story about a man by healing waters. He can’t physically make it to the water and asks others to help him and no one will. So he sits broken until Jesus comes around. Jesus says to him (and I’m paraphrasing) “Do you want to be well?” And the man is confused and says “but I have no one to put me in the healing water” then Jesus says “Just get up and Go! You are healed” and then when Jesus sees him later WALKING 😊 he’s like “SEE I TOLD YOU! You are healed Bro! Now GO and sin no more!” So my takeaway from this story is don’t wait around for other people to give you a hand up or hand out. Especially the GOVERNMENT. Because the government is ran by humans and human kind with out God in their hearts are selfish in nature. They will walk right over the less fortunate in order to achieve whatever goal they have for themselves. I understand that in life some people have major obstacles to overcome and we should help those less fortunate then ourselves. But I’d personally rather do that kind of outreach myself with God in my heart. As opposed to letting someone else that may or may not have the right intentions. Also the last little bit is the “Go and sin no more” IMHO Once that person is given the help wether it be extra cash to buy groceries or maybe some type of free housing program they must take that help and go with it but turn from their old way of life. I’m not saying that everyone born into poverty is a sinner. Please don’t misconstrue my words. BUT in my short life experience the people that usually steer away from alcohol, drugs, fornication and other types of sin seem to end up in better situations over time. I was that poor kid going to the rich school (total fish out of water) I had some friends with everything handed to them end up dead from drug overdoses. Then others like me go on to have six figure jobs. So if you made it this far in my post (LOL) I guess my summation would be this...Yes, you are correct in saying we should be giving to the less fortunate. But where I disagree is allowing a government or heck even a “church” to do it. And that even when we do lend out a helping hand it doesn’t necessarily mean that those people will take and make wise choices with the help they were given. BUT even if they don’t at the very least you planted that seed of the Gospel in there heart. You showed them that God is real and he does work through those that follow him. You leave breadcrumbs for them to follow to the Glory of God and the salvation of their souls. Which is EXACTLY what we are called to do. Glorify God and lead souls to his mercy and salvation. LET GO AND LET GOD 🙌

@@omega5418 LOL at the part where you said, "So if you made it this far in my post". It was worth the read. I hear you and understand the position. Some of my closest friends are for smaller government. The differences make for great "after-dinner" conversations. The story you referenced about the man at the pool of Siloam was also an interesting choice. Some scholars have considered that the man actually didn't want to be healed which is why he lived with his illness for as long as he did. That he was comfortable with the begging and that his response to Jesus, the "of course I want to be healed" was more like a rhetorical, "What kind of question is that" knowing full well Jesus was on to him. Others have suggested that he genuinely wanted to be healed but no one was willing to help him into the pool - which speaks to the selfishness that existed in Jewish community at that time. Which means - if Jewish leaders had bothered to actually assist the man, he probably would have been miraculously healed ages ago - but no one was willing to help. Meh. Who truly knows. What I do like is that we agree *someone needs to help the less fortunate*. The question will always be, "Who should"? I see the situation with government more in the light of the Good Samaritan story - where GOVERNMENT has the opportunity to be the Samaritan. And yes, I know we disagree on this point. But, I'm curious to know if you could see where if we use the Good Samaritan analogy, in my mind, those on the Right who believe we should not help the poor could be viewed more like the Pharisee and not the Samaritan. (Not calling any Right Leaning Individuals/Republicans Pharisees, just making a comparison in an analogy. Before someone else reads this, gets incensed and chooses to come after me with their metaphorical pitchfork and torch 😊)

@@YourJamaicanArchitect Ya, I also don't agree with Libertarian or Republicans when they want to cut off ALL government assistance. Members of my family have used the food stamps, WIC, Medicare/Medicaide programs. They definitely serve a purpose! I always tell people the problem isn't in the programs but how they are being run. I'd even be willing to have an honest conversation with some one on how to improve these programs with the possibility of growth. But the way our system is right now it CAN NOT be allowed to grow. Our politicians on ALL sides of the aisle are to self involved to actually care about the people that voted them in. Those are the Pharisees in our society! If we could get more genuine people to run and win then I'd agree with you that the government would be more like a good samaritan. Thanks for listening! I pray more people could have conversations like this in the world.

He doesn't even understand Savior Theology. We don't save anyone. The Holy Spirit does that. Our command is to share the Gospel with everyone because we don't know who the Elect are. That's what gets me upset for all of 2020 and 2021, I have heard people talking and they have no idea what they are talking about. It makes no sense.

Hebrews says Jesus made purification for sins and then sat down with the power on high, in John 3 Jesus emphasized 'you must be born again' and illustrated it by the son of man being lifted up for sinners to look to him and be saved and from another perspective God sending a Son as a gift to save them from perishing by faith. John the Baptists summed it up saying Jesus is the lamb of God who taes away the sins of the world, Ibrim disagrees and the Bible does not support Ibrim's views.

A bit of a note here. Liberation theology isn’t correct on all of its points, but it sounds as though the speakers here are making some roundabout appeal to passivity in the face of oppression. This idea that affecting material change in the world is somehow bad or anti-christian. In a way, through an appeal toward inaction, it upholds or at least supports indifference toward a capitalist paradigm as it stands, which causes a drastic measure of earthly suffering. Its also important to note that “savior theology” does have its own subsections which are worthy of criticism. While yes, Jesus (and christianity by consequence) is primarily concerned with the salvation of the soul and that should always be at the forefront of any theology, we should not let that dissuade us from effectuating a more just society here in the material world, and it would seem as though we are also called to do such things as a secondary goal. We must not allow our theology to pull us into a colonial theology, through which we view non-christian peoples as second-class individuals who must be “christianized and civilized”. This is the sort of theology which characterized the Pre-WWII period in America, and even the cold war in some aspects. It sought to religionize the atrocities which were committed against oppressed people, and sided with their oppressors under the guise of “christianizing” the oppressed. And so then all means and methods of oppression were seen as permissible toward this end. I would say this form of “salvation theology” is more harmful even than “liberation theology”.
