I seen a playbill of them, mother Maybelle, Chet Atkins, Elvis Presley, and Johnny Cash together. I wonder what that show was like.

1949 was the year I was born, so Obviously, time travel hasn't been invented yet, lol, or I'd be in the photo with Anita.

I still reckon they were better than the Andrew's Sisters.

The Carters were playing the bass, accordion and guitar and autoharp on these songs besides their fantastic vocals June was a pioneer as a front person for a band. The Andrew Sisters were great as well just 2 different types of great.

@@tonylupo1764 Hi Tony. I certainly agree with you. Comparing the Carters to the Andrews Sisters is like comparing apples to oranges. During the 40's and 50s I grew up listening to both. The Andrews Sisters were known for their popular songs and singing with swing bands, and above all, their entertaining of the allied forces, both at home and abroad, during the WWII. During the 50th Anniversary Tattoo of CFB Chilliwack in 1993, three ladies did a great tribute to the Andrews Sisters and it brought back wonderful memories of them and the joy they gave to our allied armed forces. The Carter Family were leaders in Country and Folk Music. I loved them both. Regarding the Carter Sisters and Mother Maybelle, I had the pleasure of a visit with them at the old Edmonton Gardens during intermission at a Faron Young show for which they were featured guests. However June Carter was on tour with the Johnny Cash Show but Dottie West filled in for her and did a good job harmonizing with the rest. Mother Maybelle was only too happy to have me come in to their rest area and talk about the original Carter Family. She still had her original guitar beside her. Helen, Anita and Dottie West were also fantastic to talk to. My purpose for the visit was to find a copy of the Carter Family Song Book and Maybelle gave me the address of the Jimmie Skinner Music Store. Jimmie was no stranger to me as he was a well known Country singer and sang songs from the Bayou country. I wrote him but he wrote me back saying he sold the last copy about 2 years ago. However, many years later, I came across a new printing in a music store and it had notes by Johnny Cash added to it, and lots of photos. What a treasure to have along with the LPs and CDs I have collected down through the years! They have passed on but their music will be around for a long time yet. - Norman Chrestenson.

@@normanchrestenson6446Thanks for your memories, About what year was that show with Faron Young? It sounds like the early 60s What newspaper might have an advertisement in it for the show? I've been writing a book about their life's travels before the "June and Johnny era" Check out my Facebook page dedicated to the Carter Sisters and Mother Maybelle band era facebook.com/CarterSistersEra/

Their music really sounds « Swingy » and from the the times, yes, similar to the Andrews Sisters. I’m wondering who’s playing lead? Mother Maybelle played a Gibson acoustic guitar. I hear electric and a different style than the Carter "Scratch."

Maybelle plays rhythm guitar and Chet Atkins is playing the electric on these recordings from their ABC nationally syndicated radio show on KWTO in Springfield ,Mo.
