You people who are complaining know NOTHING about Joe. He could have been raking it in for years but hasn’t. This guy wouldn’t say something worked if it didn’t. Second, KZbin changes are squeezing content creators for every dime the can, so it’s just smart for him to champion products he likes and get some extra scratch. Does anyone work harder on KZbin than Joe??! Yeah, that’s what I thought. End of story.

I have played with solar for last 4 years at camp and have found that putting up solid fixed solar panels made a huge difference. I also found that what you think is enough needs doubled in panels in order to charge the system especially in the winter I couldnt win the use vs regen war. I put in a small 500 watt wind generator on corner of camp and that was the winner. Both together brought the power storage back up quickly and when wind was blowing I produced power overnight when power consumption is lowest. I also found that these battery setups IE Bluetti and eco flow are great for rvs and emergency backup power but you need far more storage for a camp or house. If this is something you are seriously considering have a professional come in and set up a lithium battery bank and charge control setup for both wind and solar and you will be in a much better place.

good video....we all know Joe will tell us if it is crap or not. I admire that he admits that he is unsure of some of the details of the unit. Like all of us, we just want to plug it in and have it work! Then you can play with the input and output numbers later. If Joe approves then it is a go.

With the boiler and circulator pumps able to run and keep the heat going I’d think a half dozen five gallon pales filled with water IF you knew the power was probably going to go out or even after it went out … for flushing or cooking even. That would save so much power and add hours to overall run time with however many batteries you had. We all would love to run seamlessly through a power outage but that well pump , in my humble opinion , isn’t a necessity. Heat is whether in Mn,Me or AK. Love these videos and so happy you’re into this stuff and sharing. I think so many are on your heels and we value you sharing ! Take care Joe

I have an older Bluetti that I charge with solar panels without a load connected. Keep in mind that it takes wattage to run the battery unit itself that, as far as I can tell, is not accounted for in the display. This has meant for me that if I'm not getting in at least 60-80+ input watts, it's not worth it to charge it because I may even lose power, break even or just squeak in some watts. I'm in a warmer climate than you so my guess is the internal fans may run more when the unit is charging. Just something for you to keep your eyes on. You are right . . . we had a prolonged power outage last year. I continually recharged my Bluetti (and other solar generators I have) with my gas generator so that I didn't have to worry about running the fridge and lights at night and disturbing my neighbors. Have fun!

That is a great starter setup for the panels. But if you really want to draw the power, you should consider upgrading your solar panels to monocrystalline panels like 100 Watt per panel, or perhaps 300 Watt panels. Always enjoy your videos Joe.
@NorthernSeclusion
@NorthernSeclusion 9 ай бұрын
We want to do that next year. The permanent type panels and build them into a holder set up. I think doing the 100 watt panels and maybe having a bunch of them is better than doing the 300 simply because if something goes bad with a panel we are only replacing a 100 watt vs the cost of a 300 watt if that makes sense.
@chinniewas9995
@chinniewas9995 9 ай бұрын
That's what I did - bought 4/100W monocrystalline panels from Itehil - they had them knocked down to 89 a panel (reg price is 229 ea) during their Black Friday sale. They work real nice - pull in 100W each. Later will exchange them for permanent solar panels. But for now am happy with the ones I got.

My wife wanted solar on our house for a long time. I'd look at the value of the electricity against the cost and tell her that we'd make more by putting the money for solar into government bonds than we'd save on our electric bill. A three or four years ago I ran the numbers for her again and found that the lower cost of solar (amortized over an assumed 20 year lifespan) along with the higher cost of electricity had flipped the results. I've been very happy with the investment returns from our solar panels (and glad that we waited.) I've wanted to add a battery backup for power outages but that would mean adding an electric sub-panel for the critical loads so haven't gotten around to it yet. It looks like lithium batteries hold a ton of promise for this! Thanks for the video Joe !

Does this unit have a UPS Mode? Put it into that mode then leave critical loads always connected (sump, boiler) and leave the thing plugged into the mains. That way if mains power fails then those critical loads will just be powered till the battery runs out. Hard wire in some permanent solar panels on roof or ground mounts.

This is why I suggest a second B300. another tip be sure to use the thickest wire from the unit to the solar panels as there is alot of loss in DC voltage.,regards, Joe @@NorthernSeclusion

I am way more concerned about running things when the power goes out. When it goes out here, that boiler HAS to run, if it doesn't, a huge investment could be lost. The sump pumps have to run also or that basement will flood to 2 feet which ruins the furnace and water heater and anything we have stored down there. We had to replace the water heater and have the lower part of the furnace replaced when we bought the house because it had been vacant for 2 years and the power went out one spring and the guy watching the house while it was vacant did not know and the basement flooded. Saving money by running the critical stuff while charging with solar is a future plus but the need for it is greater than that.

Hiya Joe and Melissa! Well it feels like I walked into a bee's nest in here! I personally love to learn new things, and especially from Joe and Melissa on here! From farming, fishing, camping, canning, cooking, building the guest house, gardening, the chicken coop, the other animals, maintenance on the farm equipment, and I'm hopeing someday soon to watch and learn about crafting on the pottery wheel. I'll watch Melissa, like I did with her cooking, her recipes, making candles, and bee keeping. Joe is learning a new and more economical way to run the farm. Hopefully, if he likes the product and shows it to his viewers, why not reap the benefits? That's why I like watching the show with Joe's energy and willingness in learning new ideas.The farm interests me and he works hard, so why not present a product occasionally? Vicki from Iowa TC ✌️🥧🦃🌲🫕🐓🐦
