You are the 2nd KZbinr who had power issues with that heater. I was thinking of maybe buying one, but not anymore. I want it for an off grid scenario. You could switch your supply pipe to a flexible insulated duct and reduce a ton of heat loss using galvanized pipes.

I had no power issues, you just need to get the correct adapter for what your on or off grid scenario will be. The only power problem I had was my own stupidity. I did not understand how they worked. Now I have everything set up how I want it.

Looking at the Bluetti it has a 12v dc power port. Why not use that? Save the power supply for when your on shore power or the generator. FYI that power supply is designed for use indoors or inside a cabinet it has little or no moisture resistance. I like the flagpole setup thats awesome.

I would have to buy another convertor, or a cord that plugs into the cigarette port that then splits into just 2 wires. Seems like a waste of my time when I can just use the convertor and use it wherever I want.
@shootandfish2
@shootandfish2 3 ай бұрын
I may be totally off-base, but you might want to reconsider using the Bluetti as a 'stand-alone' using the 12v power port. I'm thinking that by using the power port which is essentially 12v dc to 12v dc will the most efficient. Guessing that when the Bluetti converts dc to ac, a 10-15% loss occurs and then another 10-15% loss occurs when the convertor converts ac back to dc. @@NorthernSeclusion

Joe, You are killing me! Read the manual. When you put it on 3.0, that mean 3 pulses to the pump per second. The heater maintains the exhaust output at a certain temp. Mine is around 200 degrees Celsius. When you adjust it down to 1 or whatever your lowest setting is, it will adjust the fan speed to maintain the output temp.

I was thinking of something that you might try in lieu of the supplemental fan inside the fish house. You could move the fan switch on the thermostat for the furnace from auto to on and leave the heat set to off. I am guessing that would give you a gentler/quieter and more evenly distributed heat throughout the fish house.

I think you can change that heater to operate on temp celsius as a thermostat instead of the pump pulses. Another thing you might want to consider is some kind of rigid backer for that foam insert in the window. You don't want to be on the ice at 10 below with a 30 mph wind and have your "window" blow in during the middle of the night.
@NorthernSeclusion

That foam is an inch and a half thick and it is very hard getting it into the grooves of that window frame. I think even with strong winds it will be fine but if not I will have to add something.

I used the battery so we could see how much power it uses. People are all bent out of shape on this (some) lol. What is the difference in plugging into the cig port with a cord or plugging into the ac port? It gives me more options to use the heater in different places. Some of the power stations with 12 volt ports only put out 10 amps also and the heaters need 12 to run correctly. Some people could not get the heaters to run at all. We had a very harsh winter last year and the year before but as far as snowfall, last year broke all the records. The year Melissa moved up here was a very cold year that broke a lot of cold records. Looking back at the records for entire winter seasons, the 2001-2002 was warmer. 1944 had the warmest record temp in January on record. The EL (whatever) we are having this season is causing the warmth this year. Look at Alaska, they have been frigidly cold this year. Next week we get cold again so I really am loving this winter and do not read into what the media pushes. This really is not a quick change, this has happened before. We actually had a cooler than normal summer season last year. Melissa loved it but I wish it would have been a more normal hotter summer.

Wondering why you dont get a table or build a stand for the diesel heater and battery. Gets things out of the muck, dirt and a cover to keep the rain off. Also to shorten the hoses to force more heated air. Could almost rig up a 2-4 inch stove pipe suspended from the roof with a vent at the bed and wherever else you wanted. Pretty neat the solar panel charges the battery efficiently. I think I would buy a rigid panel(s) to replace the one that came with it.

If I can figure it out you can too. They are actually pretty simple. I learn a lot from comments. I learned this time that the 1.7 to 5.4 is how much fuel is allowed to be burned. 1.7 would be low, around 3 would be medium and 5.4 is high. With that knowledge (which is not clearly stated in the manual) the heater is easy to operate. You could easily do this project.

Your power pack is designed to supply dc from an ac source. You are creating a loop that is wasting power out of your Blueitti. All you are doing is wasting power in the Blueitti. When you adjust the power panel you are just adjusting the bias in a total of 3 tenths of a volt. The output dc voltage should be 12.36 volts. All you were doing was just adjusting the bias voltage coming out of the dc supply. The dc supply will short out if it is left outside and it gets wet. It is not designed to be exposed to water or moister.

Zach went camping a couple times, I truly was hoping for videos. We are supposed to go ice fishing on the 15th and then I will do the winter trip to the tent at the end of the month. I am guessing those videos will go on Joe and Zach but if not, they will go here.

i was wondering what it cost for wood cause down here in oklahoma 150 to 180 bucks a rick
@NorthernSeclusion
@NorthernSeclusion 3 ай бұрын
There are roughly 3 ricks in a cord of wood. For the Maple I paid 120 per cord and for the pile in the back pasture of red oak I paid 125 per cord. That would make a rick of maple (remember, this is just cut into 100 inch lengths, not cut and split) 40 dollars.

So i game across your channel. So I subscribe and really like your videos. So you live off grid in Minnesota ? Just curious in what area of mn. I am originally from the southwest area. I now live in the south east area of sd. My family use to go to northern mn for years and fish eagles nest lake number 3. Really loved that area and the town of ely. So was just wondering were you might be. Love the tent in the woods. And your farm area.

Another option if u don't want to buy a power supply and you have an old laptop charger handy, just cut the end that plugs into laptop and wire it the the heater. Laptops run off 12 so the charger converts it from 120 to 12v.

Heater needs 12 volts--15 amp your charger on laptop delivers from .5 to 2 amp’s generally depending on manufacturer of laptop
@rhaepers1
@rhaepers1 3 ай бұрын
Ah, 15 may be too much. I know car stereos draw 10amps. I take old car stereos and make them into boom boxes or "shop" boxes and thats how i power them and have never had an issue. I know the 15amp draw ofthe heater is just on initial startup, but once its running its significantly lower.@@anthonysova7117

Two Questions: 1. I saw a DC outlet on the Bluetti - is that not 12 volt? Could you not just hook the heater up to that and skip the mess of the other power supply? 2. If, when on internal power in the fish-house, you said that only the battery supplied outlets work. Are they not 12 volt? Why couldn't you hook the heater up to that power and then use the Bluetti to keep the house batteries up on their charge as they run the heater? Eiither way, it looks like the external power supply is superfluous.
@NorthernSeclusion
@NorthernSeclusion 3 ай бұрын
Those batteries usually only put out 10 amps and the diesel heater will not run on 10 amps, they need 12. Yes I could set it up differently and maybe make it work (not using that battery) but the way I did it was so simple and now I can use it anywhere even if there is not a battery present but only grid power. For my needs and what I see myself using it for, what I did will give me the most options.

Could you not plug your diesel heater in to your bluetti 12volt outlet and do away with your 110 to 12 volt converter. One less item to deal with
@NorthernSeclusion
@NorthernSeclusion 3 ай бұрын
No, well yes and no. Lol. The power stations put out 10 amps, you need 12 to run the heater correctly. You can buy a convertor that can help with that but I wanted the battery or grid power option in case we are camping with grid power or if I want to use it in a shed here at the farmhouse.

That is fine if I have a cord that plugs into the cig port and has the 2 wires. What do I do when I do not want to run it on the battery? seems stupid that if I have grid power somewhere that I would use the battery. I used the battery this time so I could show how it works but i do not want my only option to be the battery nor do I want to have multiple cords. Seems like the way I did it gives you more options.
