i think one of my favourite designs is for sure Corazon's. he also has that type of feathered coat, but it connects so well with his over-all palette. the theme of hearts on him, from his hat with the little heart details at the bottom, to my favourite pink shirt with the heart-pattern, all connected with the iconic make up he did while undercover. its just so good. the colors just fit so well with his theme, a lot of white, with warmer colors like burgundy/pink but also the slightly darker touch of his coat.

When it comes to Belo Bettys look with her chest area showing, it's inspired by the painting Marianne "Liberty Leading The People". Liberty Leading The People is a painting by French Artist, Eugène Delacroix commemorating the July Revolution of 1830, which overthrew King Charles X of France. Marianne is a national symbol of French Republic, a personification of liberty leads the people forward towards the freedom with barefoot and bare-breasted, out of the canvas and into the space of the viewer by holding the flag of French Revolution in one hand. Thr Coat thing is a bit much but I kinda like how Luffy wore his. I'm kinda bummed out that he had to get rid of his Onigashima Coat, it made him feel like an emperor.

First would be the context which includes a myriad of things like: if it's done in good taste, if the character is okay with it, if it makes sense. Moker likens Belo Betty to Rebecca, which isn't really the best analogy. Even though Rebecca seems fine with it, her outfit makes no sense in the context of who and where she is. If Oda for example had made a character that is fighing in a bikini in the colosseum to maybe point out how badass she is that would help more with the context, but then we enter the second factor which is viewer 's perspective. Oda is responsible for how we view a character through what he does in the world. If he had someone say something like: "She is so strong she doesn't even need armor" or "She's still intact" it would lead us to think of it less sexually, but have Sanji come in and go: "AWOOGA BOOGA BOOBY" *nose bleed it certainly makes us think it's more sexuallized. Belo Betty definately has an outlandish design and Oda made her look more erotic than necessary if he just wanted to copy Liberty. He also did once use a character reaction to her in chapter 904 i think, though it didn't really feel that bad. I'm just trying to say that Belo Betty obviously could have a less sexualized fit, but through the context and what we were given to work with she really isn't a Rebecca and we can judge ourselves how egregious it truly is. I wrote this partially because i think sexualization of women is often misunderstood, a naked woman isn't sexualization, it is how the author shows her, his intent in making her that way and how he portrays it to us. I also kinda thought her design was dope (but it could be less sexualized). TL;DR Dude is down bad for the design of fictional women 💀💀💀

I never noticed how Blackbeards outfit changed with his raise in status in power but I busted out the old volumes and was really surprised, also I agree Doffy wearing the coat is way better. Also someone already mentioned the Belo Betty outfit inspiration but I also agree that post time skip the design for female characters has been kinda crazy( I did not recolonize Tasgihi on punk hazard). I loved this and the last video, also I loved how you would match outfits with the group you talked about 10/10

Oh oh! There's an actual answer to this! Well, a few answers. One is pins! If there's decoration on the shoulder area of the coat, there's likely a pin holding it in place! Another answer is those cool strings you see reaching across the chest at times - those usually keep shit from slipping too far. But the actual answer is buttons! On the inside of the coats are buttons that attach to the underclothes in order to keep them in place. Pretty cool, huh?

2 things 1. I'd like to think that Oda's apparent obsession with characters wearing coats like capes is kind of just part of his style/philosophy when it comes to designing his characters. If I could make another example my immediate one would be Toriyama tending to give dragonball characters baggy pants of various styles (IE Karate gi's or Monk/Harem Pants, even just regular cargo pants, etc.) tucked into the character's shoes or boots. Speaking as an artist I totally get giving characters the same outfits/ looks out of habit, for me it's probably baggy pants also LOL. 2. Your editing is super on point! It makes me want to try editing more often! Over all this video's really good! Its making me consider what outfits I design for the characters I draw, and also the outfits I wear a little LOL.

The real reason behind the cloaks is just an artist trick, if a character has a cloak you can cover their arms hell even their torso and legs meaning less to worry about when drawing them in smaller moments, and then in the big dramatic moments you have their cloak flowing and it adds to the excitement of the action
