Also to mention, if you use a internal SSD of Samsung, whatever type, normal SSD, mSata, Nvme etc..... you have to install the Samsung Magician software. In this software, you can enabled "Rapid Status", when this is enabled, your read and write speeds will get a extra boost. Regarding the external USB drive, you can use a trick called "disk write cache disabling", this trick will work on any USB drive 2.0/3.0/3.1 no mather what brand and type of storage. This setting can be found in device manager -> storage devices -> properties -> policies , there you can select the option "Better performance". In theory the default setting for USB storage devices is that you can pull them out your computer/laptop without using "hardware safely remove" icon on the taskbar, when the option of "disk write cache" is enabled, but with this option disabled, you can't remove the USB drive without using "hardware safely remove" or your USB drive will get data corruption,and in the worst case, totally unuseable. With the Rapid Status enabled and "disk write cache" disabled, you will get a boost of 20% or more in read and write speed.

You've probably figured it out by now, but you're being limited by the USB hub/port. I have the same enclosure and a much slower NVMe (950 Pro), it can write at 950MB/s

Very much so. I'm ok as long as I'm getting 300+MBS

I've been scammed so long about those stupid USB flash drives They're not fast unlike external SSD

The first time you copy the file, the host filesystem read cache is filled, which can skew the results. It’s best to use a tool like CrystalDiskMark to demo the speed.
@BetterBiomedChannel
@BetterBiomedChannel Жыл бұрын
This is true but the real speed is noticeable after a couple seconds when the cache fills.

I would just use better thermal pads for a 1tb nvme or a small desk fan on the table to keep it cool

Thermal compound works great. It protects the nvme and maintains thermals

I think it's better to go for M.2 sata ssd, as they are cheaper, yet capable enough to be bottlenecked by enclosure chipset / usb 3 interface. Also, they run cooler.

Kingston datatraveler max has a 1000 mbps read speed
@tomar753-b6z
@tomar753-b6z Жыл бұрын
375 mbps you mean? The speed does not match even while using the tech with built in thunderbolt 4. It becomes unusable after two weeks and the temperature can reach 90° after few minutes. Check the reviews.

What kind of power does this need? If I plugged it into an iPhone would it power it up?

If u have to use exFAT for formatting a USB think twice. FAT formating is best. Does not work well with medical devices using Unix and windows legacy.

exFAT is faster than NTFS and FAT32. I format all my external USB drives as exFAT, and have NEVER had a compatibility problem...
@daffo1179
@daffo1179 Жыл бұрын
@@Shaxuul true. I have a MacBook as well as a Windows PC. Having the drive formatted to NTFS lets go write and read of the hard drive on Windows fine, but only read from the Mac. exFAT works best for both platforms and in my experience it's also slightly faster than NTFS on both Windows and Mac. The only problem is, I haven't really found a way to format a drive to exFAT on Windows directly thru the Disk Manager.

You should have just gone with External SSD like Samsung T7 Shield.
@BetterBiomedChannel
@BetterBiomedChannel Жыл бұрын
T7 shield wasn't available when this was recorded. Besides, a K5 Pro filled nvme usb adapter is smaller, cooler and just as fast (for cheaper)
