Thanks to all who commented here on the Luminar UPGRADE causing troubles. I bought version 4.1 a few months ago. When I launched today it asked if I wanted to upgrade to 4.3. Thanks to those here, I said "Remind me later", and it is working as it always has.

I caved and bought it after a few days of dithering. It's a really neat tool that makes sky replacement SUPER EASY, but I don't know that I've got it in me to learn the rest of the program since I'm comfortable with LR and PS. Still, it's fun to play with and I've already started banking random sky shots for later use.

I used the AI Sky and Luminar 4 did an excellent job on the sky replacement. My question: There were subjects standing in the foreground and when it applied the sky it toned the faces to match. Is there a way to remove that color from the faces? I don't want to totally remove it but mask some away?

Hi Pam - you can click the Edit Mask button and select a Brush. Then switch to the Erase mode and paint over the faces. The effect will be removed. If you need any help with that or a more detailed instruction, please contact us at skylum.com/support

Luminar download runs as a time-limited demo. In the heat of the moment it's temping to follow the offer link and miss this try-before-you-buy option. Some folks are having instant reboots with versions later than 4.1 (on PCs that Skylum tech support can't fault), so check it works before handing over the cash. So far, I believe the software is stable _provided_ it doesn't insta-reboot!

I have always wondered about this software so I am glad you did a tutorial on it. I like that it will adjust the photo ro match the lighting of they sky. I still have mixed feelings about replacing skies but coming to terms with it.

I just bought Luminar 4 with your nice discount! Unfortunately, the program refuses to work in Ps CC 2020. I have followed the instructions and uploaded all the C+++ required and still nothing works....I know you have nothing to do with installation, but for goodness sake, all my other plugins Dxo, On1, Topaz, Nik all work beautifully!! If any of your many users of Luminar 4 could provide some insight, I would greatly appreciate it!!!

I'm a real estate photographer and Luminar is fast at replacing skies, but it's AI has a lot of difficulty distinguishing the white sky it's replacing and a light-colored house. Many times clouds from the new sky appear on the side of the house! I've tried relighting and other techniques, but the only thing that really works is manually erasing the mask. That's very time-consuming to do and almost negates the benefits of using Luminar. Any idea how to get Luminar to stop placing clouds on house siding?

At 10:00 you say Luminar "completely recolored my image" as though that's a feature. It's a bug. Luminar does a horrible job preventing "overspray" and has no tools to refine the mask it makes. It doesn't even export a mask that can be later refined in Photoshop. Why didn't you make any mention of this? This is NOT a tool for professionals.

Is this software capable of automatic retouching wrinkles on a studio background? I always find this editing step very tedious and time consuming.

Hi Valentin, you can use the Clone&Stamp tool in Luminar to retouch wrinkles on a studio background.

use negative structure or blur the background either in the taking exposure or with the software but nothing is totally automatic. However, the program does have a very nice Ai processing of a portrait. However no amount of digital image work done on the computer can fix lighting, facial views or posing issues so be sure to learn those techniques and have the image editor ready in the camera exposure.

I love your tutorials and have been a member of Phlearn for years. However I draw the line at addons. I know I'll get a few negative messages on this but if you can't do it with just PS alone than you're not willing to learn. Like a few users have noted below, it's buggy adding to the bugs in PS

ScousePhotographer probably mate but sounds like it happens a lot with the trial version as it’s not a full version. I have ran PS for 16 years on macs and been ok.

Quite a few people are having trouble with the latest versions. I had to get a downgrade to 4.1 before it would stop force-rebooting. My PC is high end render-monster, and Skylum's tech support couldn't fault my PC. There's no difference between trial and full version. Same download.

ScousePhotographer I’m not sure that’s the case. What operating system you using? I have the full version for windows and it will lock at the splash screen. If it is my computer I would love to know how to fix it cause it’s a great program with photoshop! They go great together!

I personally use PhotoLine. I subscribed Phlearn to test and compare PL and PS. EVERYTHING you did here EVER I reproduced it in PhotoLine. It is not, that PS is not good, but PhotoLine is a onepayment only Software like the also great Luminar. It can handle RAW, VECTOR and so on. You earn yr money with PS. The majority of yr subscribers ( I think ) are NOT PS users, because of the price tag. I can see it in yr eyes, that you would like to say.. MAN, WHAT A DAMN GOOD PS REPLACEMENT. YEAH, YOU ARE RIGHT. Like PhotoLine. There are so much competitors on the market. No one need the overloaded, overpriced PS. Remember... rethink or reflex yr decisions in case of PS. Try to make tutorials with other graphic softwares. Or PS is sponsering you???

I found a community support page that talked about this same issue. community.skylum.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360009396820-Luminar-4-3-won-t-launch-as-a-Photoshop-Plug-In After following the advice (3 times) I finally got it to work. I also had an issue with not being able to apply my changes and return to photoshop. I found out that you must click the "Edit" button and close the right-side panel before hitting apply. Also trying to do too many things to the image at once will prevent it from applying. I hope this helps anyone who bought the software. Despite the glitches, I do enjoy it.

I’ve been using Luminar as a side editor to photoshop for years and it’s a perfect piece of software.

no for me, so many issues with windows platform. crashes and bugs. They will not listen to your problem. save your money

I have Luminar, although barely used it so far. it does come with ~30 built in skies (see 3:44), so you don't necessarily need the additional packs. I suggest trying the demo version first, both to verify the answer to your question, and because some folks are finding it force-reboots their system.

if you create images with a camera or cell phone, simply take some of the sky that is around you everyday and then because it can be important to make the lighting of the sky the same direction as the scene was originally lit, create folders in either Finder or Explorer and put a title of the type of sky photographed and add the new image there.

Just make sure your graphics card or onboard graphics is recent and or new otherwise it will NOT work.... you will have to upgrade and or replace you laptop and or desktop.

There ARE reboot problems with the latest versions, but Skylum don't seem to know what the problem is, so all we can do is guess. Best advice is to try the demo version first.

I would advise anyone considering Luminar to hold off for now. Their latest version 4.3 failed and won't work. It is now useless for pretty much every user who upgraded. They're probably sponsoring videos because of all the bad publicity lately. I will say, when it works, it's great.

@@LuminarGlobal I did contact you on July 16th (over a month ago) because I downloaded your 4.3 version while I was editing a wedding album (dumb me). Since that time, I and all of your existing customers have been waiting for you to provide a fix. Your recommendations (turn off firewall, turn off antivirus, change Registry, etc..) are dangerous and not best practice. We are waiting for you to actually fix your software. Don I also expect the V5 will be out soon as the new discount is more substantial than when this Version was originally offered. I have L 2018 and L3 but have held off due to issues with Windows 10 and also because the MAC platform offers more usability for the same price. I am hoping that the issues that have been long documented related to the two platforms will be rectified as I have viewed essentially every tutorial by every creator and look forward to using Luminar in the future.
