AMEN BROTHER! I am a DIY builder and rider. I have already shattered my hand and lost use of 2 fingers because of esk8 but have built and ridden several boards since then... My own fault for not wearing safety gear! I had no idea of the serious risk i was in when i 1st started riding. All the videos on line were cool like snowboarding just carving without an apparent care in the world. After 4 years and 1000's of miles one- boards on and off road I tell everyone that asks , "You will get hurt riding just a matter of time and degree" A quick trip to the corner store without gear cost me 10's of thousands of dollars in medical bills and months of lost work. It could have ruined my life if not taken it. This sport is amazing fun and i truly love it but it saddens me to see so much pain and suffering because of it. At 52 years old, i am not ready to hang up my pads just yet but now more than ever I preach safety 1st and foremost. My bare minimum is a FULL FACE helmet !!!, elbow pads, knee and shin guards and wrist guards and hip pads. Off road is full body armor with chest, back and shoulder pads as well and i live in Florida so not exactly cold here...

Thanks for bringing awareness to e-skate safety. I wear motorcycle riding gear when I ride my meepo V3. I've reached 35 mph on it. Some people i know who are friends kinda make fun of the way I look when I ride but it's cool I have a wife and a little furry best friend I want to make it home too every night. I ride too and from work every day in the sun and at night. The more you ride, the more at risk you are of a crash. Stay safe e-skate community.

i’m constantly finding ways to protect myself. got a full face helmet a moto jacket some gloves and knee pads. all it takes is one fall ! stay safe guys. can’t continue enjoying the hobby if your brains are on the concrete.

Great video man! If you're in too much of a rush to not wear a helmet, don't even step on the board. No matter what speed, fast or slow. The tiniest rock can send you flying to the pavement. I know this because I took a spill last week right in front of a grocery store. I did a forward flip hitting my left elbow and a slight bump to my head. Luckily I was wearing my helmet, safety gloves, and a jacket which took most of the impact. I walked away with only a few bruises. I was in a rush heading to the train station, on my way to work. There was a lady parked in front of the grocery store that saw the whole thing happen. She was shocked and asked if I was ok, because she said it looked really bad. She asked if I needed a ride either to where I was going or to the hospital. I took her offer and told her I was fine. My helmet took more of a scrape rather than a direct hit. She dropped me off at the train station. It was super nice of her to do that. It's good to know there are good people out there willing to help others out.

I was riding on a side of a road going nearly top speed without a helmet all of a sudden an idiot on his car drove off almost right in front of me (2 seconds away) without checking his mirrors. I did a quick scary and highly dangerous at this speed maneuver to avoid ramming into the side of the car. I don't know how I managed to stay on the board doing mambo jumbo acrobatics on one leg with wobbling trucks but I slipped through a few inches from his bumper. I stopped to look behind but the idiot was already gone. I will never forget it.

Sometimes I feel self conscious when I wear my motorcycle helmet when I ride my electric skateboard. I sometimes ask myself what do people who drive motorcycles think of me when they see me. But I snap out of it because I do this for myself. I'd rather wear all this equipment rather than not have it at all. I'm safe and that's all that matters.

That poor guy falling backwards like that is exactly the reason to wear a helmet. You can't protect a backward fall. I'm new to this hobby but I'm 100% wearing full protection even if I'm nipping to the local shop. This video will save lives so thank you for the upload.

makes me think twice about 'going for a quick shopping 'run'' without a helmet. it's just a couple of hundred meters but it feels so unprotected without a helmet. helmets are a hassle and very unexciting. uncool. you need to realise why wearing one is so important. So while knee, elbow and wristguards/pads are recommended, they often simply prevent bruises and/or lessen breaks and stuff. The helmet prevents much more. ride safe

Thank you for this video. I'm so sorry to hear about Randy and his family. What a tragedy. I have a Boosted Board and am riding every day around the neighborhood - and ALWAYS wear a helmet and gloves, and when I'm skating in a new area I wear knee and elbow pads, gloves/wrist guards, and my helmet. Even with all of that I still scraped myself up really good on my arm when I hit a compression gap on a bridge that was about 3 inches wide in an area I wasn't familiar with. The wheels were no match for that, and I hadn't ridden this path and saw it but didn't have time to really do anything but fall. My elbow pad took the initial hit, but momentum kept me sliding and the elbow pad slid up and my lower arm was road rash city. I say this just to show that no matter how much protection you wear, shit can still happen you don't expect. Always wear protective gear. What looks more stupid - wearing the gear, or you, laying on the road broken or dead? Cool is really an outdated concept. It's BS. Cool is what you say it is. Cool is relative. If you think wearing the gear is uncool, you are the idiot, not the people you think would judge you for wearing it. And if your "friends" make fun of you for wearing it, you don't need to go without - you just need better friends.

I admit it was always a bit ‘uncool’ to wear pads or helmets... but that’s just ignorant! After watching a kid at the skatepark split his head open like a melon (not wearing a helmet). Never rode my board again without one! Running a carbon GT as an adult and I wear enough safety gear that I could survive a fall from space!

i wear a helmet, elbow and knee pads. i also have wrist pads but they are annoying af when you have the controller in one hand - they are still a good idea though! currently watching this with a broken ankle from majestically flying and landing on the inside of my foot lol! Be careful guys and don't think safety ends at being padded up like I thought; always be conscious of your environment - in my case going top speed and hitting lots of gravel on the pavement = emergency room. Just a heads-up to the folks out there riding e-boards: Day before yesterday I was riding my WowGo2s and while going top speed, all eight layers of the board in front of the ESC snapped at once when I hit a small gap in the pavement of a river walk. Threw me off the board BIG TIME. No Helmet, No Pads, nothing. Yes, I'm fine, but really scraped me up. Got some bruised ribs that are not happy at the moment. Lessons: First: I've now decided I'm only going to ride a carbon-fiber board such as the Boosted Stealth as I no longer trust the wood boards 2) and safety gear is now a requirement. Life is dangerous the minute you walk out the front door but you can and you should minimize the risk - your life depends on it. I just learned my lesson the hard way......so sorry about Randy.

Unfortunately even a small fall to the back of the head without any collision can cause serious injury or death helmet that is certified is absolute must.

In the two high speed crashes I've had the only body parts that got messed up were my head, hip, and left shoulder. Knees and elbows were fine. Got any suggestions for shoulder pads?

Honestly it feels like I'm part of a select few that's wise enough to realize this sport needs a full-face motorcycle / downhill helmet, and at minimum low profile pads that can go on under your clothes or stonger bulker pads. But skaters that think half face helmets are going to cut it, are in error as skateboarding and eboarding/downhill skating are completely different risk level.

the guy the name Yeah, I dunno man. I've bombed a lot of hills in the 22 years I've been longboarding, and for me at least, gloves and a half face helmet will do the job the vast majority of the time. The really dangerous thing is catching your heelside edge, as it were, and cracking the back of your head on the ground, which a normal helmet will protect you from just fine. If I was going to go much over 60kmh I'd probably want more protection, but that doesn't happen often these days.

So so so sad to hear. This is why cost should be no object when it comes to gear. Buy whatever helmet you will WANT to wear every time. I go with a TSG Pass because it makes me look like a sexy beast, I love how premium it feels and the protection is excellent. Go high or low, just wear it every time you step on the plank. PS. Going one step further, my motto is: if you want to keep living, wear a helmet every time. If you want to keep living to the fullest, wear wrist guards every time too.

I 'm brand new to eboards. I picked up a full face bmx/downhill bike helmet by Demon as well as knee, elbow and wrist pads. The most important question I have is . . . . . why was that espresso shot so blond? It looked awful.
