kind of cool that Skynet took advantage of the fact that John felt an emotional connection to the T-800 that had protected him as a boy. They sent a Terminator model T-800 JUST like the one from T2 and used his appearance to lure John in for the kill. Really smart move on Skynet's part. Even cooler, that same Terminator gets captured and is sent to the past to protect John Conner. Effectively becoming John Conners killer then savior. Nice lil' twist right there.

Yeah. This writing is leagues better than whatever Geneshit and Dark Flop had to offer.

Technically speaking we don't even know if it was Skynet specifically. One thing about the future - there are inevitably some humans who join with Skynet who may be supplementing its decision making. Turncoats who bought themselves a little more time. As the Terminator can be reprogrammed, it isn't necessarily Skynet who sent him on these missions. There may also be human factions at war, or those who do not agree with John Connor's methods or history who'd potentially use a Terminator to eliminate him. The Terminator wouldn't necessarily even know for certain if it was, in fact, Skynet who sent him. He would only know what he was programmed or what his experiential data would reflect - and it'd be easy to manipulate a Terminator once you began reprogramming it. There could be a lot of layers to the future dynamics that we, and the Terminator, are completely unaware of. They baked in a doozy of possibilities with these vague answers.

@@inr9751 That's because Skynet used the same look for the T-850 to terminate John Connor since John never had a father growing up and the T-800 in T2 was the only thing that was close to a father to him. When Skynet realized that John had this emotional attachment to the T-800, Skynet used this as a way to get to John much more easily in the future by disguising it as the T-850 we see in T3 that was sent back in time.

No, John knows he dies in 2032 not in 2018. He knows he would have survived that surgery because he knew he had to send Kyle back to the past. All the timelines works around him and his life. Still, he knows he will die in 2032 and Will try to avoid it but its inevitable (infact the T 850 at the end says "We'll meet again") because no matter how you change the past the main events around his life Always happen. You got to give credit when it's due. Future Catherine Brewster could have destroyed the T850 out of grief for John's death, but instead she chose to capture and reprogram him, sending him back to the timeline in this film. Her choice ended up paying off, as he ends up destroying the TX! For the fun of it, imagine that the T-850 did "kill" John Connor--meaning that his heart did come to stop because of a "fatal blow" from the T-850 (no pun intended), but then John was somehow saved and revived, but it was kept a secret from the T-850 after it was reprogrammed, and that it was the idea of John Connor and Katherine to keep it that way so that there would be no doubt in the mind of the T-850 that Katherine was in charge, even though she and John were working together. In a way, it would put more of an emphasis on Katherine being John's spouse as she would be following John's plan in controlling the T-850. There was a similar plan in the movie Hard to Kill. Steven Seagal's character is shot up, and does die; but then his heart starts beating again. But one of his colleagues decides to keep that as much of a secret as possible in order to keep him safe from those who tried to kill him.

Stahl gave the best performance as John Connor. Feels like a real character versus the kid in T2 with all the dated 90s quotes and Bale’s growling in Salvation. Plus, the acting in both cases was terrible. And somehow, the guy from Genisys was even worse.
@Hadras70944 жыл бұрын
After all he's been through, it's a logical step forward in his character arc. Who would expect John to behave the same way after everything that happened in T2 plus his mother dying?
@TheDirtysouthfan4 жыл бұрын
@Meta Man If you were to watch Dark Fate as T3 killing John in 5 minutes is the worst possible decision. It would be like killing Luke Skywalker in the first 5 minutes of Episode 6. We spent so much time hyping this character up, protecting him and watching him grow, and then he's just killed and treated merely as a motivation for Sarah. The reason John is killed is for all the other films that are ignored, Rise of the Machines, Salvation and Genisys. John Connor is important in those movies, maybe a bit too important. In those movies, the stakes are much bigger, but the plot is still centered around protecting 1 or 2 people, so it feels a bit ridiculous. The Terminator films had done everything possible with John Connor without expanding significantly beyond him. Hell, in Genisys HE was the Terminator. Thus, to start fresh, they kill him and move onto new characters. The outside world crept into the movie world. Dark Fate was a soft reboot, and an attempt to make a proper T3 which would've ended Sarah Connor's arc from the first two films, but mainly a reboot to start a new trilogy. They then added in Grace and brought back Arnie, so now you had 3 protectors for one little girl. Having John Connor would've had 4, and keeping Diego alive would've added more characters. Instead of doing the logical thing and not bringing back the T-800, they kill John. Even in the final version the Rev-9 is seriously outmatched. Now, it was stupid. First of all, if John Connor dies and it no longer affects the future because they destroyed Skynet, why would Dani's death matter? Why not just let the Rev-9 kill her, then he can walk away and settle down and run a drapery business and maybe he'll feel bad about killing her. Then he'll help Grace destroy Legion so her death had meaning! Secondly, the reason Uncle Bob in T2 killed himself at the end, was because Skynet could be built from his parts. Karl completely invalidates that iconic and emotional moment, why wouldn't he go to Cyberdyne systems and restart Skynet? Lastly, it isn't much of a new story. Dani is basically a Mexican female John Connor, a young kid who is helpless against the Terminator and is going to lead the resistance in the future. Which makes the death of John Connor doubly insulting, and it makes it seem like it's forced diversity.

Yes and no. First of all yes the timeline has changed but not because of this scene but because the t-850 looked like the t-800 and after everything that happened in this movie made John realise that the terminator wasn't human( they can look and act like a human but john couldn't tell the difference after t2 and even called the t-800( model 101) his father figure) Secondly, because of the events of t3( john meeting the t-850, judgement day, etc) the timeline has changed but only in some parts of the future such as: 1. John connor does not have an emotional attachment to the t-800(model 101) 2. John wouldn't be killed by the t-850(this doesnt mean john wouldn't die) 3. The t-850 might not be created because it was created for killing john but there could be other reason why the t-850 was made 4. Katherine Brewster may or may not be responsible for the t-850 reprogramming since john doesn't die from it and is still alive before genisys And finally, no john wouldn't wait for the t-850 and he doesn't need to Although because of the t-x and the t-850 going back in time, the timeline also changed when it comes to the t-850 origin( remember in t3 the only reason why the t-850 is created was because of the events in t2 and t3 kinda changed the way john looks back at t2)

It's probably about people who realized how bad the sequels were compared to Cameron's duology, I think this started to happen because Cameron himself started to trash on the franchise, even though he said he liked T3 when it was released (there was a story about how he has to convince Arnie to act on the film because Arnie refused at first, if Cameron didn't want it to happen then he wouldn't have done that), then he changed his tune and basically said "My movies are the only ones that are canon" after Salvation or Genysis were released.

John, Sarah, and the T800 never averted Judgement Day, they merely delayed it until John, Kate and the rest of the Resistance commanders and heroes were old enough to defeat Skynet. In the first film, the terminator was sent back in time just before the resistance won. Kyle Reese was sent back and fathered John Connor. In t2 the war was still going on at a later date. In t3 the war starts at a different point. I would say that each time the terminator and savior was sent back, it altered events that led to them being sent back were erased from time. Salvation should explored this by having John Connor not be the resistance leader because too much had been changed and had him become a hero by earning it, not by fate which would have been a great way to wrap up the franchise.

There was an alternate ending for Salvation in a leaked script where Conner and Reese are both killed in the ending, but the problem there is that it would have made Sarah's struggle to keep herself and John alive in the first two movies completely pointless.
