That "oliv" hat you showed, is in the old Bundeswehr standart color called "Steingrau Oliv" (RAL 7013) witch can be translated as "Stone-grey-olive". The Bundeswehr kept this till the end of the cold war. As far as I know, Germany was the last nation in NATO without a regular camo in service. But this color worked out pretty well in the field. And the uniforms were in an outstanding quality - kind of indistrucktable.The are still(!) available on the civillian market and I wear them very often. Greetings from Germany Chris

Ah, that makes sense, thanks! Were the original produced Steingrau uniforms/gear more on the grey side than the newer Steingrau items? I ask because I actually own a few pieces of Steingrau gear by MD-Textil and UF Pro and they're all a lot more green than this hat even though they should be the same color in that case.

Thank you so much for posting this video! I also bought several Feldmütze from Military Harbor and I have no regrets about their quality and fit. There's something about the design aesthetic that I find very appealing. I got the plain ones (white, navy and off-white) which I use everyday. I just add some pins from time to time. I've tried to find a thin field cap with the flaps for ages and the only version I've found was the formal one from the Gebirgsjäger and a shitty reproduction from MilTec, which was quite disappointing Thanks for showing the Chinese hats, I will definitely check them out

The german field caps are nice. Getting the sizing down however is a little tricky. Excellent video.

I use mine when I go hunting and camping, especially in fall and winter. Or really when I do anything outside in winter. The wool ones are nice and warm. In the summer, I use a cotton one. I've bought mine from Amazon, from various manufacturers, some are good and some are pretty bad. Yeah the peak on my wool m43 stands out more than it should, but it's fine. Still the most comfortable hat I've ever worn.

The early gebirgsjäger mountain cap with wooden buttons and leather sweatband is the most comfortable

As an option, have you checked out First-Spear? They have a very useful hat based on the feldmunzte that they call the Forager and is made with many modern features!

Thanks for mentioning that as I actually didn't know First Spear made any hats. I gave it a quick look and it looks really well designed, I'll research it more and I might pick one up myself.

That's so me when I'm a German factory worker and get absolutely eviscerated by an allied bombing run in my feldmütze hat.

Picked up a NOS Finnish m65 hat today. I have a hessian antiques m43 field cap remake and don't like it. It's too tall. It's a mountain style so maybe that's it?

Most likely, yes. It could partially be due to the manufacturer, I haven't bought any Hessian Antique hats myself, but the mountain hats were always quite a bit taller than the standard M43s.

The 1939 hats were called side or garrison caps. They only started having visors on the field hats starting with the DAK M41s which was then adopted on all Heer M43s a few years after.

If you're a 57 exact I'd still go with a Military Harbor size 57. What I've noticed with mine is they fit more like a half-size up, so if you were to downsize by 1 it would be too small.
