Read the chapter in the book. Go see for yourself. The oppressed became oppressors. The slaves masters.

I am Jewish through the Christian faith. While our new church in Port Washington was being built, 1970 the community synagogue welcomed our congregation to worship with them for a few years. Sharing worship was an awesome experience! The Torah and the Old Testament are the same! The Mooch is catholic. He was only 7yrs old at that time.

Framing things thru a religious lens is the fundamental problem. At the core, doing that creates fractures, splits. And therefore, fighting and literal war. It's a constant motivator in that direction. It's always there. Obviously we are never going to get rid of religion but framing things in a secular way is a much better approach. Such a huge problem

Love this Mooch-I’m half Italian biologically but more if you count was raised only by Italian women- we in my own family particularly hate antisemitism and racism, and we… in my own family… have always attributed antisemitism to jealousy! I first observed this when I was 18 waiting tables at a Jewish country club- antisemites are flat out jealous! Thanks for confirming what I’ve known all along!

Amen and Amen. Anthony you make me proud to be an Italian American. I agree completely and hope that a human peace and reconciliation with the Palestinian people can be found. Without justice for everyone the hope of an Israel that fulfills its potential will never be realized. The world needs more people of reason and faith. Shalom and Pax.

Envy! You hit the mark on that one Anthony. I have been saying that for years! It's not only in regards to the Jewish people. I believe it is also the motivation behind many of today's social issues. Envy as long as it is not explicitly said publicly seems to be acceptable to a large segment of the population in the West.

Thanks for a good discussion. I'm often frustrated by peoples' references to "morality", as there are as many definitions of morality as there are humans. However, Anthony hit on something when he mentioned "freedom". What does freedom mean? I would also add the ability to survive and sustain, both of which are ultimately undermined by the destructiveness of those that do not care about "morality" at all. My Dad, a WWII combat survivor, used to say we create heaven and hell right here on this earth. He was right. The only way humanity will survive will be if the autocrats are shortstopped. Without self-determination for all of us humanity will be unable to fulfill its potential.

I think the point were freedom and morality intersect is where the flip-side of the coin of freedom is that any place where a person has the freedom to choose between courses and becomes responsible for the readily foreseeable consequences of those actions. Choosing to drive while drunk or using drugs therefore being responsible for killing pedestrian as a consequence.

Totally agree! It’s jealousy. I’m not Jewish but you can see this pattern throughout history. The first scapegoats. Jews killing Jesus narrative justifies treatment throughout history.

An emphasis on education was mentioned. That seems to be a missing ingredient these days. I grew up near Loa Angeles quite a few years back. The public schools were very good. A wide variety of subjects were taught well: math, science, geography, history, literature, government, electronic shop, music, foreign languages, sex ed, more ... My parents always emphasized education. The charter school thing is a racket. We just need properly funded public schools and decent salaries for teachers. Schools in poor areas need federal funding assistance.

You can find anything to justify anything in any religious text. 10 commandments? Give me a break. There are hundreds of commandments and we don't respect 99% of them because they are stupid. "Leviticus 11:4-7: Don't eat animals with split hooves (Cows have split hooves. Do you eat steak?) / Leviticus 11:9-10: Don't eat animals that don't have fins and scales (KFC is out) / Leviticus 19:19: Don't mate two different kinds of animals " (So you can forget your trusty mules). It's all a crock of baloney. Oh here's one of hundreds of dipstick commandments: "Deuteronomy 25:11-12 states, "When men strive together one with another, and the wife of the one draweth near for to deliver her husband out of the hand of him that smiteth him, and putteth forth her hand, and taketh him by the secrets: Then thou shalt cut off her hand, thine eye shall not pity her." " Get out of my face.

It's not about the Jewish people or about Judaism. It's about the Lord of Hosts. He is the one who delivered Israel from Egypt. He is our dwelling place in all generations. He is the source of our freedom and our life. The Feist of Tabernacles is a celebration of thanksgiving to the Lord of Hosts for the deliverance from Egypt. Too bad that in our modern world He is no longer invited to the feist.

I think the word you're looking for is Hebrew. As the race of "jews" are descendants of the Hebrew People, aka Israel. The word Jew is indicative of Judah... then again, I doubt your claim of "Jewish"... can't be both Atheist and Jewish simultaneously.

Anthony, The challenge with your benign "self-determination" definition of Zionism is that it only seems to apply to one religious/cultural portion of the Israeli population. That's probably why it has such negative connotations with the wider community. A movement who has one of its motivating purposes being to remove a group of people or/and their need for self-determination, might struggle to find broad support from outside observers. Be interested in any flaws in the above perspective, and more generally, in your view on how both peoples can find a path to peace, happiness, and mutual respect?

We should never glorify any communities, religions, countries or cultures. Considering what is happening in Israel right now I also find it tone deaf to elevate Judaism to the source of all goodness. Finally, reality has a tendency to fact check this kind of pathos and then the hypocrisy becomes much more irritating.

The same hatred has been directed toward other groups of people also throughout history. I'm sure you know that many non-Jewish groups have been targeted throughout history and were targeted during the Holocaust as well. It's not the messaging. In my opinion it's a failure of the heart and/or lack of enlightenment or pride for which Lucifer was cast out of heaven - thinking we're better than someone else. Loving those who persecute you can help but ultimately God must change hearts. Betsie Ten Boom wept when she was beaten in Ravensbruck but she wasn't weeping for herself. She wept because she felt pity for the guard who mistreated her. How many of us can love that way? But shouldn't we if we hope to help others learn to love as God himself loves?
@OffbeatsMusic
@OffbeatsMusic 3 ай бұрын
Nope. Not the same hatred. Hatred against other groups, for sure, but there has never been nor possibly never will be the hatred like that against the Jews. History doesn’t lie. And for sure it’s not a significance that anyone would want for their people. Watering it down or dismissing what should be seen with clear-eyed honestly does no one any good.

There is an intolerance in Judaism. Individual jews may exhibit liberal views, but Rome didn't trash Israel because of it's peacefulness. Jews have a sense of superiority in that they are the "chosen people". Free? Ok, but Israel never had a commandment against slavery. They accepted the "holy land" as a reparation for their tremendous suffering in WW2. They should show that they hold to God's freedom by moving out of Palestine. "If a town doesn't receive you, shake the dust off your feet and move on. Christians, Jews. Hindus, Buddhists are religious organizations, not nations. Walk away from that pile of dirt. The world has many beautiful places to be tolerant in.

Don't expect to win. We are not the first or the last who will fall. History proves this true. If God gave humanity something perfect they'd mess it up. He already proved it. He gave Israel the 10 commandments and they failed. And if it had been any other race of people they would've failed too. The only answer to death is Jesus. The kingdoms of this world will and have failed, his kingdom is forever!
