I have to disagree with your take on children of the atom. It's far from ugly, with stunning graphics that for most animations are only complete in this game, stylistic redesigns of iconic characters including a wholly unique sentinel unit. Much like the sprites from alpha and dark stalkers they have been reused by capcom since inception but it is only in this game that the animations are complete. It has some of capcom's best composers including Hideki Okugawa and the soundtrack is varied and at the very least on par with alpha and dark stalkers in terms of quality. The game feels like jazz to play. There is an incredible amount of expression and freedom to the combo systems and a cast that despite being small is full of fighters that have unique properties. To call the game unremarkable is a stretch.

A piece of art about something so niche, made with so much absurd creative flair, and expression, and depth, and variety, and love poured into every single shot. I don't mean to be hyperbolic, but words can't do justice to something like this. This is why humans create things, the insane compulsion we have to get ideas out of our heads and into the world knows no bounds. This was just an absolute joy to watch. Thank you, that's all.

I was kinda surprised by not hearing about samsho and soku in this video. It's actually second and third fighting games with weird time shenanigans that comes to mind. Samsho allows to stop timer by using rage and soku... soku is extremely unique. I would've need an entire paragraph to explain why it fits for the theme of this video. Great video btw.
@HQRubbish3 ай бұрын
Samsho has a bunch of cool mechanics, I am mostly familiar with Vsp though, and while state of nothingness is a very cool "timey" mechanic-I wanted to focus on the idea of stuff that interacts with round counters mostly.
@ИльяКривошей-й5п3 ай бұрын
@@HQRubbish ssvsp have mechanics that interacts with round counters and it's balance strongly depends on the format. bo3 is favorable for characters with slower rage build up and better conversion of rage in to state of nothingness (which is usable only in last round until loss), while bo9 is better for characters who have better rage build up, duration and weapon flipping technique. It's kinda like Anubis and Manon case but more extreme because it affects whole roster.

Great video! As always, your production value is sky high. I liked the discussion of strategic resources in fighting games, and how Korean Tekken wasn't ready to deal with it, but I wish you'd thought about Virtua Fighter and Shun Di when discussing characters growing over time. A fully boozed up Shun Di is ridiculously strong, so much so that the opponent often has to route combos differently to reduce his drink count by hitting specific moves. And since VF allows post KO hits, both players will try to maximize their impact on the drink count, by trying to win with certain moves, and doing optimal post KO combos. He's basically the only character that can "play for meter", but the opponent can similarly play to deny this option. It's pretty cool.

You put to words how Akuma was so messed up in tekken 7 in a great way. I would always come back to the conclusion that the super bar is the issue but it's not so simple to express to others that it isnt in fact that he'd deal 70 damage before the combo started scaling, but rather, that he threw away a round building meter to close out a game/match. Great video man. 10/10.

I was put off a bit by the persona you used to represent yourself for this video, but I realized that as you went further and further in depth into this topic, I realized I am having a forbidden meeting with the devil where he shares with me his wisdom few are allowed to know... (That wisdom being a FG balance lecture) Another note, a time themed character I thought about while watching this was the character of "Isaac" from the skullgirls, who was an option to vote upon nearly a decade ago during the games first wave of DLC. Only one video exists (that I know of) of how he would've played, displaying his ability to use a move in the future during the present. However, I think that concept of time isn't appropriate to how you present it in this video. What an incredible film
@SachaDow3 ай бұрын
Awesome video, as always! I was slightly expecting a shout to Vlov from MBTL, being another character that becomes weaker the more rounds it takes to win a game, though in a different way than those presented here. In a fun twist, no resource is involved at all - in a way, he's the "truest" version of a character being affected by time, since it is a bit of an inevitability. Others will need to build resources to become stronger (or delete rounds), but he simply gets his best properties when his back to the wall - the closest "being one round from losing" is to the start of a game, the stronger he becomes as a character overall. ... or not! In fact, this includes the JoJo time-stoppers, but having games that are best of 1 round nullifies their advantages entirely. Meaning, instead of having their power aways decrease as the number of rounds to win increases, it spikes as "strongest" in a best of 3 - becoming weaker as more rounds are added, as well as when a single round decides all. Cool stuff!

I found this video to be enteraining but I think it could have been improved by added more examples and somehow reducing the overall length of the video. 1. Junpei Iori from Persaon 4 Ultimax has a similar token mechanic similar to Manon in that if he scores 5 bat hits he gets a permanent "home run" buff making him the strongest character in the game. 2. Frank West of MvC3 as a level up mechanic, that not only powers up his personal damage but also makes his assist the strongest in the game 3. Phoenix Wright also has a similar mechanic in that if he gathers enough "evidence" through searching the battlefield, he enters a powered up "Turnabout" state where his range and damage, and juggling ability is vastly increased.. 4. Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta from DBFZ can exclusively take advantage of the shrenron mechanic by producing a dragon ball if he lands his anti-air or assist attack 5. Vlov Arkhangel from Melty Blood type: Lumina gets a permanent buff to his ranged attacks turning them from ice to fire only after he loses a single round.

Junpei needs 10 home runs (40 hits), also he's not that good with it.

Actually in Jojo’s hftf the health bars for both players in the round is reset to 0 and grows back to full, so if another time stopper escapes and hits the person who stopped time in round start that person immediately dies as well since both of them at round start are 1 hits.
