I know some of the team that worked on the game! I think the summary for its issues is: 1) it was their first project, 2) it was very mismanaged, 3) there is/was very little game dev in Chile, so there was very few people with experience in the industry they could learn from (or much less hire). I also heard that their marketing man decided to get into fights online because "all publicity is good publicity", so that probably explains the twitter. I think he got kicked out after that. The game made basically zero money, and that led to the studio disbanding some time after launch (that's why no DLC). AOne is back in bussiness now, subsisting mostly off of contracting jobs. They also got the game ported to some japanese arcade machines, so they've got some income from that as well.

Just a couple additional thoughts after watching the video again. I got to know Omen of Sorrow for the first time through an article on Shoryuken in ~2016-2017 and got to play an early build at Gamescom in 2018 (or 2017, I unfortunately can't remember the exact year). My inner child squeed at the sight of Kaleb shooting a laser from his mouth. Unfortunately at that time it was PS4 only, so I didn't manage to get to play its final version. Some people I know in the South American scene later linked me some articles about the issues with the game development, the misguided focus on a cinematic story mode and the fact that apparently the cutscenes were made before the story was finalized (which might explain why the ending feels so darn unsatisfactory, but this is a personal opinion). Omen of Sorrow had great potential, I really liked how Arctorius felt like Nightmare from Soulcalibur with all those stances. Both Imhotep and he are among the most interesting fighting game characters I have ever seen, despite all the game's flaws. Omen of Sorrow truly deserved better :/

Right off the bat, it's ugly. It looks cheap and the characters have a weird action figure visual style. Those stages being that big also make me question if anyone on that team actually plays fighting games. Corner pressure is a big tension builder and helps make games exciting. If you're going to have stages that big, you need to give characters very fast movement or attacks with massive knockback.
@EduCrossHands10 ай бұрын
Tekken has infinite stages, corner pressure is not that crucial
@grantm.597510 ай бұрын
@@EduCrossHands Tekken 8 did away with these, and seems to like oddly shaped or multi-layered stages for more dynamic gameplay. Corner pressure is pretty vital in a 2D fighting game, as "back against the wall" is pretty much the universal win condition for most characters. It helps with consistency and especially with visual clarity.

Didn't quite work but got some eyes open to it. THEN the PS5 and Switch copies were ran by a play asia release. Which got backed up by over a year. From what I gathered, they had certification issues which is wild considering the game already released but might have to do with the fearures you spoke of.
