As a former foster mom and an aunt with three adopted nieces/nephews, thank you for being so practical about hopeful ideas. It has its hiccups and inadequacies. All the more reason to work toward permanency for these children and youth.

At Wendy's usually in December they sell key chains for a free frosty throughout the next year for a donation. That donation goes to the Dave Thomas Foundation for adoption. I always support it each year.

That's wonderful! They also sell Boo Books in October as an alternative to giving out Halloween Candy.

What a great interview. Thank you for bringing this information to so many people. There are so many children that are legally available to adopt to a great home, but so few people are aware that you can adopt through the Foster Care System. You actually don't have to foster first to adopt.

Thanks for bringing up the adoption leave forms. My wife doesn't get adoption leave at her job so that was very helpful info!

I hope she can use the info and help your family and her colleagues pursue dreams to adopt. ❤️

I was taken from my birth parents at 4 & bounced around until going to my aunts. I live there about 7 years. Was homeless for a bit & did a lot of couch surfing because I wasn't prepared for her getting sick. I didn't have emotional support. I ended up back in foster care & group homes at 14 when my aunt I'd lived with (thinking I was adopted) died. My uncle never wanted me, he wasn't shy about telling me how he felt. I then aged out of the system at 18. I say all this because that second parent really needs to get onboard or it can cause serious trauma. I'm amazing now but so much could have been different had he actually been open to having me there.

Seems like Foster care is not really an option for couple working? What are s everyone’s thoughts on this. Having a new child come in at any time and have to get them to possibly a different school seems impossible when you both are just able to handle your busy day and get to work on time as it’s now. Is there some truth to that or are there two busy working adults out there doing this?
@Marcy-Bursac23 күн бұрын
My husband and I are both working adults as we navigated this. We talked to our employees to have the support we needed to have flexibility with our jobs. As the pandemic taught us, we need employers to support people and their lives.

@@Marcy-Bursac good to know possible. We’ve been fully vetted and ready to accept child for couple months. House ready and inspected but have not been able to say yes because afraid of logistics of getting a foster kid who may need to go to a school across town where as we work and on another side of town and wife teaches around the corner. It’s the unknown we can’t get passed but still trying to navigate and figure out. Always encourage to see others succeed at it. We noticed a lot in classes always seems to be mostly stay at home wife or for the most part someone home.

@@nickgallegos430 - My newest book "What to Know When You Adopt Through Foster Care" has over 55 stories of different shapes of families are have done it successfully. Some even as single parents. My children lived 5 hours across state and we figured out how to make monthly trips to honor the foster care system visits that were required over the 4 months that became 18 months. My husband loves this quote from an AdoptUSKids campaign from a few years ago: "You don't have to be the perfect person to be the perfect parent." Sean Anders' film Instant Family is also a great real-life example of a working couple caring for a sibling group in foster care. In short, it's worth the risk. You'll figure it out one day at a time. ❤

I usually look up your videos for updates! Our government has no idea how people are suffering these days. I feel for people with disabilities not getting the help they deserve. Thank you Mrs Emily L Romano, imagine investing $12,000 and received $305,500.

You're correct!! I make a lot of money without relying on the government. Investing in stocks and digital currencies is beneficial at this moment
